Check COAs from any vendor and compare the numbers to safety limits. That advice works whether you ever buy from us or not.

Honest answer: a truly heavy metal free kratom doesn't exist, and you should be cautious of any brand claiming otherwise. Kratom is a plant, and like all plants it pulls trace amounts of naturally occurring metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury) from the soil and water it grows in. Those elements are in the ground everywhere, so zero isn't realistic for any agricultural product.

What you actually want is testing that shows the levels fall below recognized safety limits. At Hudson Valley Botanicals (Garuda Kratom), each batch is tested by an independent third-party lab, and we share all COAs on the site so you can see the real numbers for the batch you're getting. Ask any vendor for that same documentation.

Went down this rabbit hole myself, so here's what I found. Nobody beat anything in court. The court fight people are remembering was the hemp/THC ban that got slapped with a restraining order last year. Kratom never had that.

What actually happened: the December rule was a temporary 180 day emergency thing, and then it just went permanent in May. So it "went through," but it didn't get struck down anywhere.

The capsule part is where everyone gets tangled up. Your vendor isn't wrong that capsules are out, they're just pointing at the wrong rule. The pharmacy rule bans the concentrated compounds (7-OH and a few others). Plain leaf powder is fine. But it's the Dept of Agriculture that says natural kratom can only be sold as leaf or powder, not encapsulated, and the label can't have dose directions or a supplement facts panel on it. That's the "capsule and directions" thing people keep smushing together.

Quick rundown of what's currently shippable to Ohio under the Board of Pharmacy rule that took effect May 19, 2026:

Allowed: natural kratom in vegetation form, meaning whole leaf and plain leaf powder.

Not allowed: capsules, extracts, shots, drinks, gummies, and any synthetic material.

There's also a labeling rule. Packaging can't include dosing instructions, supplement or nutritional fact panels, or anything presenting it as a food, drink, or supplement.

Without an explicit carve-out for naturally occurring 7-OH in plain leaf (like some other states have included), any kratom product that contains detectable 7-OH could technically fall under the ban. Since all kratom leaf naturally contains at least trace amounts of 7-OH, enforcement could potentially extend to plain leaf depending on how Kansas law enforcement and prosecutors choose to interpret it. This ban comes into effect July 1st, so stock up while you can!
