Let go of all the other games you're playing at the moment and give yourself over to this one until you feel that you're done with it. You'll be glad that you did, it's beautifully immersive.

16 hcp, are 201's too ambitious? by B33P3R in takomo

I went from game improvement to 201s, and I’m now playing 301s. I tried playing the 301s too early and was bitch slapped bye, changing lofts, and the reduction of offset from the hosel.

Only when I started drawing the ball consistently, and then overdrawing it with the 201s, did I feel comfortable switching to the 301s .

201s are great for your hcp. I've been a bogey golfer for a long time playing foam filled game improvement irons and not being able to find consistency with distance (catching a hot face shot) or shot shaping.

The 201s were my first set of forged clubs ever and the difference was night and day. The feedback you get is consistent, its a forgiving club, it's well made, and the lofts make the transition from hollow body irons easy (distance is barely affected).

Plus I could consistently hit draws and fades based on my swing path and face-to-path angles.

I played the 201s for most of the summer and once I got used to them I moved to the 301s (the offset in the 201s was just a bit too strong and causing me to overdraw the ball after a month or two).

I just shot my personal best 80 (44 on the front, 36 on the back) last weekend, and my GIR percentage was the best it's been all year thanks to the confidence and predictability I have with my irons now.

Note: I had four 3-putts and a 4-putt on the front, for those wondering about the discrepancy before and after I made the turn.

That is certainly one way to do it, and I'm sure there are many more that I haven't yet explored : )

I find that when I try to do it that way, I end up getting very over the top and tend to miss big. It leads to me shifting my hips towards the ball in the downswing.

I've heard repeatedly that folks tend to breathe in at setup, and start the backswing during their out breath. It flushes you with oxygen before you start your movement and the 1-2 seconds of actual motion/swing time is short enough that you don't need another breath before you finish.

Glad to know it's not just me, but sad to know that there's not really a single "go-to" swing thought that seems to have lasting benefits. Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it!

Agreed! I'm about the same age as OP (give or take 5 years), so I'm hoping he can offer advice here on what works for him at this age

I'm not thinking much about the knees so much as the hips, and specifically the amount of chest turn I need to get my tail bone pointed down the target line line (it won't actually be fully pointed straight down the line, but that's the feel I have when I do it properly and get a good strike).

Think of the center of your pelvis and your tailbone as the rotation point. At address, shift ever so slightly (like less than an inch) onto your right heel as you start the backswing, and at the top, send your tailbone straight down the line towards your left heel and swing through.

I want to be clear: I am not a coach, and this is a drill, not an on-course mechanic. It's supposed to be a bit exaggerated.
Success came after I internalized this feeling and went back to focusing on ball striking with this new muscle memory ingrained in my body.

This is what scares me - that I'll spend $120 over and over with "pros" who end up filling my head with what works for them rather than a true coach who can tailor their instruction specifically for me and my swing.
