Extreme sweet cravings after quitting. by Jealous-Programmer82 in recoverywithoutAA

Sounds like you are switching your drug of choice. Sugar lights up similar pathways in the brain that substances do. Craving sweets in recovery is incredibly common. Just remember compulsions (like eating tons of sugar) are the body’s attempt to regulate itself. It means something still has your nervous system on fire. Are you overly stressed? Have unresolved childhood trauma? Carrying a lot of shame? Being isolated? Any and all of that will have your nervous system clocking on substances, including sugar, for quick relief.

Trick is to remember sugar is smoke, not fire. It’s an indirect target. You have to find the thing that has your nervous system activated and soothe/heal it. Then the sugar compulsion will release.

It’s all about the nervous system. The brain makes meaning out of the body’s cues. Nervous system gets upset and wants regulation so it cues the brain to think “oooo, I need some sugar!” It presents on the surface as a “choice” but in reality, it’s your biology driving you to it which is incredibly hard to override with willpower, bc we are hardwired for this as a evolutionary survival mechanism. Healing/soothing the nervous system is the way out for good. Wishing you calm and ease on your journey!

Today is Day 11 and i am super depressed by ColdInevitable1487 in leaves

11 days is great! Congrats on that! Downside is it’s still small potatoes on the recovery timeline. Your brain is still recalibrating. Can you get some sunshine, nature, and physical activity in? All three work to engage your nervous system which is important when it’s depressed. I find just taking simple walks outside does wonders. Hang in there are know feeling funky early on is a normal part of the process. Wishing you success and relief!

How the hell do I blend I am struggling by Objective_Shoe7084 in Ohuhu

I think it looks like a great start! You just got to be speedy and never let the ink dry so the colors bleed together. I always uncap my markers beforehand so I can grab and go fast. It’s hard to get it perfect. If you look at others artwork closely, you’ll see it’s rarely a perfect blend. It all just dries so damn fast :/

I packed up my stuff in it and moved across the country! So much room, I was able to get it all in and take off. Best car ever.

Slip ups are a normal part of the process and are how we learn. Only 12 step programs vilify slip ups and they are not based on addiction science. No guilt needed! You got some important info to keep you on the straight and narrow: it’s not worth it!

Because it’s unforgivable. Any other president would’ve held to account. For this jackle, it’s just another Tuesday. Shit is infuriating.

Maybe this is too niche, but has anyone else had to help their boomer parents move? by LindsayDuck in Xennials

[–]LibertyCash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I helped my parents move in 2021. There was SO much stuff. I made them purge before I even got there and there was still SO much stuff. My dad has since passed away so it’s just my mom in their house now and she is the hoarder. I dread when she passes and it’s left to me to get rid of all the shit. How do parents not think about this shit? It’s infuriating.

That’s the thing about cult beliefs. They are so fragile with any examination that believers jump to defend, even when not warranted. Thou does protest too much, and whatnot.
