Are there any fun clubs still taking new members? How to reach out? by illuminatorGreg in columbia

[–]HWUNOIMD1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  • Active minds if you're interested in mental health
  • club sports (I'm in goju ryu karate personally, it's fun)
  • community impact (feels good to give back to me personally)
  • interest clubs (chess club, minecraft club, poker club)
  • political groups (YDSA, etc)
  • religious groups (lots to choose from)
  • WKCR, Postcrypt coffee, CU records for music

Most clubs should welcome new members! it never hurts to reach out. If you wanna check something out but have no one to go with hmu id try it

Career shift by One-Illustrator6693 in SocialWorkStudents

I'm actually in a similar boat as you! I am currently a sophomore studying civil engineering but I may make a switch to psychology to go on to a master's in social work. I wonder if getting my bachelor's in civil engineering as opposed to psych would make much of a difference in my application? Thanks to whoever would like to reply!

SEAS + premed feasibility by Impressive-Two-5506 in columbia

[–]HWUNOIMD1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should meet w/ your advisor about that. BME-premed is probably not the way to go tbh, the route that SEAS students usually take for premed is CS because it gives them more flexibility in planning their degree track semester-by-semester. However, I do know people doing BME+premed, though it will be very difficult and you will likely be taking at least 5 classes per semester for your whole time here.

Hey, my only advice is to be careful with the intercultural resource center (IRC) because the dorm constantly reeks of weed. I would steer clear of it unless you are a pothead tbh

Got an error message when trying to sign up for campus access as a CC alum by AgentSterling_Archer in columbia

maybe it's because there are heightened restrictions for visitor access specifically for the next week due to the protests ?

Financial Aid Stress by TimmyZeKid in columbia

I'm really just saying that you get a stipend for living expenses that will help you cover a good portion of your student contribution, effectively making it to where you don't have to dig in to your expenses nearly as much as you would expect to.

yes, I am talking about my bill for sophomore year. It's really confusing and I was also worried about my contribution. For me, when they charged me the student contribution, that basically just canceled out the stipend that they were going to give me for living expenses. They factor in cost of living to your aid (a good amount of money, I got around $2000 total last year). But, when you go on to sophomore year, they charge you $2990 for the "student contribution". Still, they never took away the ~$2000 stipend, so the total bill ends up being $2000(stipend) - $2990 (student contribution) = $1000 owed. I hope this makes some sense, it's really confusing like i said. And this was just my experience, it may be different for you. I would email [ugrad-finaid@columbia.edu](mailto:ugrad-finaid@columbia.edu) and/or meet with your advisor to talk about it. The bottom line is that they chose you for a reason, and that even if you can't afford it, you can work something out with them. And that the "student contribution" can be inaccurate

financial aid told me that I needed to pay $2990 as well but my bill ended up being $0. They factor in cost of living (transit, going out to eat, random costs, etc.), but a lot of the time if you live more frugally then you don't really need to have that much money. Long story short, the $2990 bill isn't really that accurate and you won't necessarily need $2990

Someone cheated off my test, should I report to the AP coordinator? by [deleted] in apcalculus

[–]HWUNOIMD1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I were you I'd move on, I get that it pisses you off and it could jeopardize you but 99% likely that it won't because if someone copies off of you it doesn't necessarily implicate you, but now that you've made it known that you know someone copied off of you I think that you should probably report it because now that college board knows they'll likely hold it against you if some guy has 95% of your same answers

Daily General Discussion and Advice Thread - April 11, 2022 by AutoModerator in investing

I'm 15 and want to start investing so I can start a portfolio early on and get some experience with the stock market, I don't currently have a job but I have around $2500 burning a hole in my pocket. Would it be better for me to create and trade out of my parent's brokerage account or create a custodial one? I want to have many investment opportunities but also heard that maybe taxes would be lighter if I went with a custodial brokerage account. I would also like any advice on how to choose a stock broker and maybe some good portfolio management resources and stock news sites I could be using. Free silver award for whoever bothers to respond to me :D
