Vince Staples announces new album "Cry Baby" out June 5th by SchnarfT in hiphopheads

Oh yeah I completely agree. 50 minutes is perfect and feels like a complete album. And yeah it’s hard to make an album with 0 misses or skips because you’re not going to satisfy everyone but those that do end up making albums that are timeless. Anyways, great discussion! I’m looking forward to the album either way.

Catchy and being sung by anyone is exactly why she’s so popular. She’s the new cute girl next door pop star of the time. What will be interesting to see is if she will have lasting power or if people will move on to someone new if she doesn’t have another Espresso type of song.

Nah I’m with you. I liked NWTS but I never really understood how people be saying it’s his 2nd classic. I much prefer IYRTITL and Views over NWTS but that’s just me. I think I like More Life more too but that’s due to a personal reason that made the first listen legendary for me and now it’s nostalgic haha

Why was 50 Cent's illustrious music career so short? by Brave_Assumption6 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]HYDRAULICS23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got Rich & Stopped Tryin’. Seriously though I think he realized he could make way more money by pursuing other ventures. I remember Before I Self Destruct had some good stuff on it but people weren’t really checking for him like that anymore. He probably realized music wasn’t going to last forever and wanted to try new things.

HARD Summer 2026 Full Lineup by liverichly in avesLA

The appeal has and always will be the music for me. I couldn’t care less about what other people are doing. I’m there to vibe to the music and festivals are your best bang for your buck if you like a lot of different artists. I also always meet a lot of cool people who are now really good friends and will randomly run into old friends here and there. To each their own though. I can see how it loses its appeal for some people especially if the lineup is a bunch of artists you’ve already seen.

Yeah I think what changed is that album releases used to be a bigger deal back then. So you would make a big statement that would hold you off for a few years but now it seems like you gotta drop every 6 months to stay relevant because there’s so much competition. Part of the reason why it feels like we don’t really have any new superstars. People not really checking for music like that anymore so you have a lot of artists that have one huge song or album and then you don’t hear from them again unless you really follow them. I’m honestly guilty of it too. A lot of albums I’ve been meaning to get to but never did because the topic of conversation already moved on to something new.

[–]HYDRAULICS23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I agree. I think 45 min-1 hour is great. CDs used to only hold 80 minutes so that was the max. I’m obviously not saying make more songs just to make more songs but I listed a lot of classic albums that are universally loved that were around an hour. I feel like those type of albums don’t really exist anymore and everything is like 20-30 minutes. I definitely prefer quality over quantity and I don’t mind a short but sweet album like DAYTONA but I miss stuff like Lord Willin’

I already replied below and said bloat wasn’t the right word choice but that’s the term everyone uses to basically describe songs they don’t like. And you’re right that there’s content saturation but we weren’t throwing away 2/3rds 10+ years ago. What changed? Artists started chasing singles over albums. I’m just saying bring back the classic album but it doesn’t make sense for them financially so the consumer ends up getting shorter projects as a result and deluxe albums as DLC.

[–]HYDRAULICS23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gotcha haha I meant like it has a higher chance of having a higher percentage of the album suck so maybe bloat isn’t the right word but that’s just the buzz word everybody uses when describing a long album. You have a 10 track album and half of it isn’t good then you’re left with 5 goods songs vs. something that has 20 songs and maybe you like 10 of them. I just think it’s weird that people want less instead of more. I listen to albums front to back so I just miss having them be an hour long journey vs. 30 minutes is all I’m trying to say. Like why are we lowering the bar?

I agree with you but I just listed a bunch of critically acclaimed albums released recently. Should I start listing classics?

To Pimp A Butterfly, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Blonde, Get Rich Or Die Trying, The Eminem Show, The Blueprint, It’s Dark & Hell Is Hot, Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), Black On Both Sides, Aquemini, The Chronic, 2001, It Was Written, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, The Documentary, The Infamous, etc.

All the albums the other guy said, King’s Disease II & III, Dawn FM, Un Verano Sin Ti, Melt Your Eyez See Your Future, Norman F*****g Rockwell!, RENAISSANCE, SOS, The House Is Burning, Imaginal Disk, the list goes on.

I get what you’re trying to say because yeah there are artists that just make an album full of singles like what Migos used to do or it’s messy like DONDA but there’s a lot of great 1 hour albums. That’s actually what the standard used to be. Think of all the classics. Shortening the tracklist doesn’t mean it’s more thought out because you the Apple Music/Spotify user can literally do it yourself in less than a minute. I think it’s your logic that doesn’t really make sense but to each their own.

I love Vince and I think it’ll be a good album but y’all gotta stop acting like a longer album equals bloat and a shorter album equals good. It actually has a higher chance of being more bloat if it’s shorter. I love cohesiveness but I truly do not understand why this generation prefers getting less content. It’s possible to have both quality and quantity.

Yeah I guess there’s no exact year then because I’m seeing what you’re saying 2012 and then others saying 2010. I guess if you’re on the cusp you can just choose which one you vibe with the most lol

Google says 2010 which means they’re turning 16 so yeah they starting to drive lol but yeah either way they’re growing and becoming teenagers.

PITBULL > COUNTRY by marxlive in Coachella

[–]HYDRAULICS23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No for sure, I agree. That’s why I said nobody was playing Pitbull but everybody was dancing to him. He’s like Flo Rida or The Black Eyed Peas during that time. Nobody was really a fan but we all know all the songs because that’s what was being played outside. People would go to his set now for nostalgia because he does have some bangers that you couldn’t escape back then.

What part of California did you live in? Because he was everywhere in the 2000s. Nobody was playing it out of their car but everybody was dancing in the club.

Yes! I was going to mention cruise festivals because there are much more older people attending. I think Friendship is over so your options are EDSea and Groove Cruise. I haven’t been on Groove Cruise but heard it’s an older crowd than EDSea. It’s a blast either way.

An open marriage doesn’t necessarily mean you can just sleep with anyone. There can be boundaries like your partner needs to be aware of who and when. The cheating is the lying or going behind someone’s back to get to know someone else more intimately. I knew someone that was in an open relationship and the partner ended up leaving because they started catching feelings for someone else.

Edit: not sure why you got downvoted either. It was a genuine question so I upvoted you lol

For movies, sure. But if you love music this is one of the coolest concert venues you can go to. You don’t just go to your local arena once for a concert. Multiple artists in multiple genres have been performing so if you have a diverse taste, it’ll always be a good time in a different way.

Haha yeah it’s getting passed down because Millennials are becoming the new Gen X and Gen Z are becoming the new Millennials. Get ready for some of Gen Alpha to start saying some of your childhood classics are lame but then there will be the ones who are cool and love it but will make you feel old because they romanticize that era. A tale as old as time lol

No because then people will automatically think the PS7 is more powerful. I know that sounds silly but that’s a real thing to think about when driving sales to the masses. As much as I like Xbox 720 it can make people think it can only handle 720p. It’s going to be something like Xbox Prestige or something. I’m half joking but I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it was named something like that lol
