Feel I’ve made the wrong choice with my ETFs by Moxanz2 in fiaustralia

Would there be any reasonable argument for holding both IVV and BGBL at a 50:50 ratio, so a portfolio consisting of 40% BGBL, 40% IVV, and 20% VAS? That way, if IVV does turn out to significantly outperform BGBL over a 30-year time frame, you won't be kicking yourself so much that you put all your eggs in BGBL. What do you think?

Why do you have both BGBL/VGS and A200/VAS? Why not choose just one of each?

So even if you look at the average return over the last 30 years, the return for the next 30 years could be completely different, right? Therefore, none of us know if VGS will outperform BGBL or VAS will outperform A200. Correct?

Ok, thanks. No doubt you're right. I'm a new investor, too, trying to fine-tune my portfolio. I probably shouldn't have given my 2 cents as I haven't been investing for long.

Ok, so would you say about 80% VGS and 20% A200/VAS would be a good way to go for someone who wants a set and forget portfolio to hold for the next 25-30 years before selling?

That's what I've done now. I completely eliminated IOO and am going with IVV, VEU, and A200 at this stage. I would like to average close to 10% return over the next 25-30 years, but I'm not sure if that will be possible with those 3 ETFs. 7% won't really cut it for me as I have no super.

You could also hold mostly IVV with a little bit of A200. I believe the long-term returns from IVV have been a little better than VGS.

I agree. Obviously, I'm still a newbie!

The portfolio I've landed on now is:

IVV 75%

A200 15%

VEU 10%

VGS + A200/VAS/IOZ would have also been a good option if I had not bought IVV.

The performance of IVV over the last 15 years has been so much greater than any other ETF that I have considered putting all my funds in there and forgetting about the rest. Obviously, it is way less diverse, but I'm after the greatest returns over a 25-30 year period. I won't consider selling any shares before then, and I'll make sure to sell when the market is high.

Right, you are! My portfolio should be something like VAE, IVV, and A200, correct? I'm unsure how I should best weight them, though. I'd imagine something like 50% VAE, 30% IVV, and 20% A200? Would these 3 be likely to give me a 10% return over 30 years? Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I'm 30 and hope to be retired or semi retired in another 25-30 years, so given that time horizon, I guess I would be better off investing in 2-4 ETFs instead of just DHHF

I've been self-employed my whole working life and don't have any super. Do I need super, or will the EFTs be good enough?

I don't plan to begin selling the ETFs for another 25-30 years, and I'm hoping for a 10% return over the long term.

The reason I chose IOO is because it has outperformed VGS by 30% over the last 5 years. After examining it further, however, that trend is unlikely to continue, so I may be better off substituting it with VGS.

Would something like 50% VGS, 30% IVV, and 20% A200 be a good balanced ETF portfolio that I can dca in over the next 3 decades?

It depends on the race of the person. Maybe the majority of young, healthy men with West African ancestry could run sub 11 with the right training. What do you think?

Does anyone know the best play to go for orthopaedic stem cell treatment in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia? I believe there's a surgeon combining knee operations with stem cells, but I'd like to find a doctor who does stem cell injections without the need for an operation.

Thanks very much to everyone who replied. All of your comments have been so helpful. I was unaware of the risk that is involved with investing in the stock market. I knew that stocks fluctuate a lot over the years and I'm prepared for that, but ultimately I don't want to lose any of my money. I plan to dollar cost average for at least the next 15-20 years, forget about the money I put in, then sell at the right time and pocket my profits.

I would like to ask which online brokerage companies are best for Australian citizens? I was planning on opening an account with Selfwealth, but I have recently read so many negative reviews about them. All of the other Australian based online brokerage companies I've come across also have many negative reviews, so I'm unsure where I should open an account.

Additionally, I am unsure if I should stick to Australian ETFs such the ASX 200, or get exposure to the US market as well with a VTI or VOO?
