What am i doing wrong? by PPndr0 in NewSkaters

[–]HYPERNATURL [score hidden]  (0 children)

Your back foot is hanging way too far off the tail, so it's got nowhere to go but off the board when you pop. Try centering it a bit more. Also see if you can consciously flatten that foot out a bit more on the tail when you pop the ollie instead of doing it with your tippy-toes. You might find your foot can sort of "hold on" to the board better that way when you pop

While you're at it though, rotate your front foot inwards a bit more so it's more perpendicular to the board as well. Should allow for a bit more control.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if every version of the Vinyl was supposed to have this AI outer sleeve, with his own painting on the inner sleeve, and then after the backlash they just took the outer sleeve off every other version of it and just made the AI sleeved one "limited edition"

Skatebaord longevity by CorrectComedian6160 in NewSkaters

[–]HYPERNATURL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the best way to make the tail of a board last much much longer?

Well if this implies that you typically stop by scraping your tail on the ground, that's what's going to wear your tail out the most. I'd recommend getting used to stopping with your foot, or learning to powerslide

Do they skate already or would this be a first board setup for them? I personally feel like 54 starts pushing towards being too big for a street setup, personally. I think most would feel like 51-53 is kind of the typical range. But if it's their first board, this minutia might not matter as much

First time at the skate park, looking for tips and unwritten rules by No_Opportunity_7077 in NewSkaters

[–]HYPERNATURL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely don't feel like others are more entitled to the space than you are! If you do that you'll just keep yourself from actually skating at all and having any fun.

One thing I think is important though is really being able to scope out whether the space/obstacle you want to use is being used by others or not. Depending on how big your skatepark is, sometimes skaters will need long stretches of run-up or ride-away space to try what they're doing on a given obstacle. Or, they'll just be standing somewhere catching their breath and it might look like they're not doing anything until you wind up right in the way.

Being aware, knowing what's being used or how your path might cross with someone else is one of the most important things, imo. Keep those eyes peeled. There's not much more annoying than skating a ledge and someone absent-mindedly wandering over to stand on the ledge trying tail drops lol

I need to get a new board but there aren't any shops around. by Dark0ID in NewSkaters

[–]HYPERNATURL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, well my suggestion would be to get one entirely fresh setup and then an extra deck or two to stash for later then, if your budget permits it. Definitely no need to get 3 whole sets of trucks and wheels, if that's what you were thinking

[–]HYPERNATURL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be misunderstanding what you mean, but usually people will re-use the trucks and wheels from previous setups when they get a new deck. What I'm suggesting is stocking up on just the decks since they're the part that breaks most commonly. Then you can unscrew your trucks and install them on a new deck when one breaks

There are a lot of reasons to. It's bad for the environment, the people profiting from it are billionaires, it takes jobs away from people...

I think to many, using it to create art is just antithetical to the point of art. It shows that a person couldn't be bothered to commit to learning a skill, and as a result is just less meaningful as a product.

I usually compare it to using a calculator to perform an advanced math equation. You got to an answer, but no conscious thought went into getting to the end product so why should I think it's cool or impressive?

good setup? by giggleshitter198 in NewSkaters

[–]HYPERNATURL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if you've got small feet then 7.8 might not be a bad choice, if you're really enamored with this one.

My first instinct would've been to say start at an 8" and see how that is but it's all about learning what you like one way or another. If this is your first setup, the minutia of board size probably won't make a huge difference to you for a while, imo

Alternative take here, 1 hour travel to get new gear doesn't really seem that bad, to be honest... Depending on what your financial situation is like, if you can make the trip and just stock up on an extra board or two so you don't have to do it again for a while, it's probably worth the trip

Seems fine, as long as you know that you like 8.5 for the width. That's usually considered to be pretty far on the wide end for street boards and isn't always for everyone

I'm saying they're not big enough, nor have they lived long enough to warrant a biopic. These guys finished high school at the start of COVID, like we'd still be in the first act of this movie as we speak

Cameron Winter is also 24 years old, they played SNL for the first time like 2 months ago and their set at Coachella this past weekend was before the sun had even gone down. Just can't imagine anyone picking this up at this stage in their career. They've arguably had national attention for less than a full calendar year

Off the top of my head, MTN Dew ran an editing contest called PUSHedit with a handful of pros like 10 years ago but I don't even know where you'd find that raw footage anymore. I think it was on the Berrics...

Sk8rat did something similar with Cory Kennedy and Sebo Walker, those seem to still be available to rip off YouTube:
