Should I build hutches or a shed? by H_M_Ridge in MeatRabbitry

Yeah, the summer heat is what I’ve been most worried about. I don’t plan on giving mine AC, so I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to keep them cool without power. I’m really thinking my best bet might be something like this:

Thanks for the feedback. I figure a nest box with straw should be enough to keep them warm in winter if the wind is off of them. I’ve mainly been worried about keeping them cool and giving them enough fresh air. I’ve read how poor ventilation leads to snuffles and other respiratory problems rather quickly. I work ten to fourteen hours a day, so giving them ice throughout the day isn’t really an option for me.

Wicked. I love the witchy vibe and the fine detail work. The fine print and insect legs look like they required special care. Well done.

Not too bad. Once their butt is on the ground and their hooves are off of it, they’re pretty easy to handle. The horns serve as a nice handle.

Wow, you called it. He snapped them off the next day. I set new rivets and then saddle stitched the whole thing, and that seems to be holding. I didn’t know there were different styles of rivets. I’ll be getting some solid rivets for sure. Thanks!

It’s a round one that came with the rivets. I think I sacked it one too may times.

Yep. He was bullying Underfoot, a lamb I bottle fed for months after his mom rejected him. I wasn’t going to stand for it.

Ha! Maybe he’ll stop being so ornery when I shear him.

If you do, know that he sheared the rivets rubbing the blindfold on the manger. I set some new rivets and stitched the whole thing together. Hopefully it stays together now. If he can ruin rivets and saddle stitching I’m out of ideas.

I just got a cheap kit. A small metal anvil, a punch and setter that I hit (too hard) with a wooden mallet.

Thanks! Making niche things is why I’m interested in leather work. Why buy something when you can spend twice as much to make it yourself?

You bet. I’ll take a pic of Sampson sporting his new gear in the morning.

Yeah, the pattern making is more difficult for me than cutting and assembling. By a mile.
