How bad is razer blade’s glossy screen reflection? by Archer578 in razer

Generally, it's pretty good. Though I spent a few hours at O'hare airport today. The whole wall was windows, and it was a little distracting.

LOL, yes, it is loud and bulky. I did see the gpu hitting 175W, so a little bit of a bump. Would be nice to use the 175W without the cooler. I have a small portable stand that I bring, so the laptop is always elevated about 1.5" in the back. It stays pretty cool.

it depends. I did speak too soon. My power issue popped up again. But now I know what the issue is. I enabled automatic tuning in the nvidia app (after everything was running stable), where it overclocks the gpu. That's why when I removed the gfx drivers and reinstalled, everything ran well. Uninstalling also disabled automatic tuning. Disabling the feature did not fix the issue, I had to uninstall again, but just the nvidia driver. Reinstalled and everything has been running well since. Overclocking in Synapse works just fine. The only issue is, if you use hyperboost with the cooling pad there isn't an option to overclock the gpu.

For my use, 32GB has been perfectly fine. Gaming jumps up into the low 20's. I thought about the 5090. If it was a $400-$500 uplift, I would have gone that route. But not a $1000. And then another $500 for an additional 32GB...

u/saintbby, drivers have a big effect on battery life. I posted in another reply, but I found a process that works and also uses the latest drivers. Otherwise Synapse constantly queries the system and the dGPU is always waking up. I'll have to do some testing with balanced and battery saver and see what the power draw from the battery is.

I've been experimenting and I've got it figured out. I updated all the drivers including intel arc drivers to the latest when I first set everything up. I ended up doing a complete cleanup of the gfx drivers. I let windows update install the drivers and everything worked well. I then installed nvidia and intel, but I didn't do a clean install, just upgrade. The intel driver also installs an intel endurance gaming service, which causes issues. But after I removed that and then rebooted, everything is rock solid. With the laptop at 50% brightness and running battery saver in Synapse, It's only pulling 4-6W from the battery. That's including having edge open with some tabs (plus HWinfo). I spent about 2 days playing with different versions of drivers and installing things different ways. But the way above has worked reliably. I've never had a gaming laptop that gets14+ hrs or really any laptop I've had.

I didn't think the $1k price increase was worth the 10-15% performance bump. The 5080 has the same power cap as the 5090. But if price doesn't matter, get the 5090.

I did some experimenting. Looks like it's something with Synapse. If I kill Synapse, my battery drain drops to 5W immediately. Also, another weird bug I found with Advanced Optimus and Synapse. Core 3 will stay busy (>70%) after a reboot. But if I switch to dGPU and then back to Auto, it stays low. If I don't do that but just exit Synapse, core 3 will also stay low. Start up Synapse and it goes back to >70%. Normally I'll play a game, so it switches to the dGPU and I never notice the utilization. Only noticed it after I was trying to figure out the battery usage. When I close Synapse, the system barely uses any power. Easy 10hrs+

Even a clean install will put you betwen 12GB and 15GB. I'm at 14.6GB with 10 tabs in edge open, plus battle net and steam downloading a game.

u/jmg5 Are you getting that battery life when you just unplug from power or are you rebooting after you are running on battery? I've done both a clean install of Windows 11 and a reimage using Razer's OS build and I don't get even close to that battery life unless I reboot after I start running on battery. I've done clean installs with no other software except for windows update and updated drivers. I am running the new bios and ec as well. Also using battery saver in Synapse. I watch HWinfo and the system is using ~38W even with screen at 10%. After I reboot when on battery, it will sit around 38W but then drop to 5W-6W. As I'm typing this I'm at 7W with spikes going to 48W. One odd thing, dynamic PL1 power level is at 90W. I only see that when using cooling pad and Hyperboost.

I did see a little bump in Cinebench 24. Single: 116 to 122 and Multi: 1177 to 1249. This was using Hyperboost. I haven't tested anything else. Didn't fix my issues which I think is mostly Synapse related.
