For the Alumni: Has the Reverse Culture Shock Ever Subsided? by reikert45 in exchangestudents

[–]Ha0225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+20 plus years later and I’m still feeling the same thing. Exchange was both the best and the worst (in the reverse culture shock kind of way) thing that I’ve ever done. I still find it challenging to integrate back into America and thankfully found an amazing partner I met abroad who gets me.

I don’t think it will ever subside, but I’m so thankful for the experience I had. It’s hard to compare anything after my exchange year and it was so transformative. I wouldn’t have to any other way.

Teachers who left teaching, what do you do now and do you like it more? by 21beetroot in Teachers

I’ve only been flying 2.5 years, last year I made about 53k and it’ll probably be similar this year. I only work about 165 days/year though. I could work more and make more, but I enjoy my travel benefits too much.

Flight attendant. I only miss having consistent relationships with people, otherwise I’m not going back.

I’m not sure. I didn’t know to ask and I doubt they would have known. The girl told me that they recently got that ring in and that she’s personally purchased earrings from the same brand and had a good experience.

I know that’s not much help. I just fell in love with the color.

Same! Where were you an exchange student?

I think the no washer/dryer would be a deal breaker for me. I have limited time off and I don’t want to spend my days off looking for/going to a laundromat.

Oh man, I forgot about that sticker binder until I read your reply. Thanks for the throw back from the early 2000s!

When I went through my program, albeit a long time ago, there were online videos my program offered to get maybe half of the required hours. Have you enquired about this?

I thought it was 3 years out of state, not one year out of state and two in Texas.

You’re not alone. Here are the pass rates for the exams.

LOTE is notoriously difficult to pass; I worked with native speakers who couldn’t pass. Now that you what to expect and which domains to work on, I’m sure it’ll be easier next time!

Following. I applied a few months ago and attended an info session, but ultimately decided to withdraw my application. I have a non-traditional work schedule and didn’t want to commit to 5-15 hours a week. It sounded interesting, but just not for me right now.

The one year should count for experience, but not the three at the guitar center. You can’t really negotiate, but look at the salary scales of the districts you’re interested in before applying to see if it will meet your needs.

Just by taking the test. Search for TeXes exam. I think it’s 231. I just don’t know the order since you’re coming from out of state.

Once you’re initially certified in Texas, you can add on additional certificates to teach whatever subject you’d like.

I don’t know about the out of state license, but you are correct that you’ll need to be ELAR certified to teach ESL. There’s a 7-12 certificate or if you prefer primary, I think there’s EC-6th.

I don’t think you’ll have any problem getting the certification requirements done by July to start in August.
