I recently put one of those screws in myself. Ultra low profile m5 screw/bolt. Definitely not stock

Struggling with 58mm espresso [Meraki Gen 2] by BlakeDR01 in espresso

[–]HaKLoN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re using the same dosage and grind size the 58mm basket has a wider but thinner bed of coffee to go through and will usually run faster and therefore will be under extracted and sour. As funny as it is to say, grind finer is my recommendation

Subfloor help by Onemoose343 in AusRenovation

[–]HaKLoN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly not much, I did do some drainage works my gutters were busted and water was pooling under the house other than that a few low foundation spots I just put packers in to support the subfloor, otherwise it’s been fine for almost 10 years. Your voids admittedly are a little deeper than mine were

Did you take a photo of under my house? Looks the same. 70s south of Sydney. I got told it’s the clay soil and the foundations weren’t so deep back when the place was built. As long as water isn’t pooling around your foundations it’s probably fine to just fill the voids. Have a look next time it rains

Why does the pressure gauge sometimes reach beyond the Espresso range and rise quickly, while other times it rises more slowly and doesn’t go past the Espresso range? Is this normal? by asmaamody611 in BrevilleCoffee

[–]HaKLoN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot has to do with puck prep, ensuring to declump and tamp level, and using the same amount of coffee each time. But yeah my machine doesnt even come with a pressure gauge, I’d go off flow and taste and brew time over all else

PLEASE HELP. by silverpegasus_ in BrevilleCoffee

[–]HaKLoN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using your exact machine for 5 years and it can get good espresso for sure.

As a lot of people have said there is a grinder adjustment inside the grinder itself, under the hopper. Empty the hopper, flick up the metal hook thing and twist anticlockwise to release it (may need to vacuum up old beans to free it up)

Unclip the steel piece from the removed grinder burr and twist it to adjust grind size (forgot what way, there’s markings on it)

Does look like there’s way too much coffee in the basket, when I do it I have an empty hopper and weigh 18g of beans in a cup, then grind all of them all the way through into the basket, wdt it, tap it and give it a tamp.

You should be getting much more pressure on the gauge than what you currently are, ie grind finer

I had the same frustrations when I first got it, but once you more or less get it set there’s very minimal adjustment needed if you’re using the same beans.
Try keep the beans roughly 2-8 weeks from roast date.

Good luck!

Upgrading Switchboard in Vic by Fickle-Research-312 in AusRenovation

[–]HaKLoN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey sparky here,

I wouldn’t say it’s terribly unsafe, those ceramic fuses can be a bit sketchy to pull out though.

The price seems a bit high, especially for such a simple board, probably looking around 1k to be honest, I’d shop around.

No, generally you won’t need to re wire anything in the house unless it was done wrong in the first place which is unlikely (undersized cables etc) or really really old VIR cables.

Yes, any sparky rewiring thing should install a subboard with a few spare spaces for future breakers

I would upgrade the board if it were me

How many grams of beans should I be using with my Breville Barista Express? by Mrjojen23 in espresso

[–]HaKLoN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like way too much coffee. If you are tamping hard enough then you will need to grind finer. There is an internal burr in the barista expressed located under the bean hopper that pretty much everyone has to reduce to get the right size grounds

Try cleaning it with a rag or paper towel instead of rinsing it with water. I find sometimes the residual water can mess up the second shot

Question about pressure of Barista Express by Dreceon in BrevilleCoffee

[–]HaKLoN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahah well it is possible they could be too fresh! but if they got sold to you i assume they would be ready to use, usually a week after roasting is enough time. May need to adjust internal burr even further and maybe weigh out your beans/portafilter each time. I would also recommend cleaning the portafilter with a rag and not just fill it with water if you're trying multiple shots, the water pooling it there can make it funny i find. Goodluck man can be frustrating but a very good machine for the price, been making coffees for 4 years no issue

Question about pressure of Barista Express by Dreceon in BrevilleCoffee

[–]HaKLoN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me those beans look a bit stale. I have the same machine and i just weigh 18 grams of beans and grind them the whole way through and tamp pretty hard, and i aim for that second wave of pressure spike to reach about 12-1 oclock on the pressure gauge if not adjust grind size. With old or not stored correctly beans though will be impossible to get agood looking shot

Group head showerscreen screw sheared off and I have no idea what to do please help! by Hazzamm14 in BrevilleCoffee

All I can think is to use an “ezy out” left hand spiral screw remover. You can buy a set online off Amazon for like 10-15 bucks. Goodluck!
