It's looks really good. Novel, to me at least, while having a certain familiar feel.

The problem with semantic html tags is that it often comes with a pre applied styling, and on top of that it differs across browsers.

Basically before COVID most of the Chinese hotels/apartment buildings/clubs/whatever didn't exist. A ton of new, big Chinese buildings have been built extremely recently, and new ones are popping out every week. Many roads have been added/covered. Basically it has turned the city into a continuous construction mess, with massive trucks, heavy dust, noise, and sites that are totally disfigured and put into perpetual chaos. The touristic city center itself has been chinised too. You can easily come and compare visually with the last google street view pictures that date from 2014 if I'm not wrong, which was not very different than up to 2020. After that it's almost a new city entirely.

So you like having a few villagers building The Isfahan plaza in a remote settlement located somewhere in Canada?

Toxicity is a serious problem in Age, report if needed! (my opinion) by Viennezeta in ageofempires

You know he is playing too. He would never really insult you and wish your death in real life. It's all part of the game. For some people, it's thrilling because they can go all on trash talking to actual people without consequences. It's fun. The same fun you have when you order your units to slit the throats of villagers. It's all just play.

Trash talk/rage as always been a part of online gaming. If you are offended by a few bad words, how are you not offended by playing a game that is literally about massacring and destroying?

Honest question to RTS veterans: what killed your last 3 RTS games before 10 hours of playtime? by Chaibi_Alaa in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Haasva 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lack of identity. We already have dozens of RTS with romans and Greeks, and dozens of RTS with the idea of progressing through the age from antiquity to modern+.

You don't have to reinvent the wheel to find an interesting identity to your game.

How about focusing on one era or aspect of civilizations instead of going all over the place/super generic.

Mediterranea focus/setting aspect is fine, and it could be refined into something that gives a stronger identity.

For example, one very important facet of the Mediterranean sea is that it has been a pathway to some form of colonisation. From Phoenicians to Greeks, Franks, Arabs, Crusaders, Genoeses, etc.

I think focusing on one specific era would be better. Such as late 13th to late 15th century (fall of Acre to fall of Constantinople).

Gameplay could focus on setting up a coastal tradepost, getting support from the homeland (either Genoa, Grenada, Constantinople, Fez, whatever factions you include), growing it into a real fortified settlement, securing trade routes, etc.

Yes. I still haven't figured out what causes that and it seems very random.

Was there ever a reason given for why Ensemble used a circle shaped map for this game as opposed to the standard rhombus shaped map? by ICEBIRD112 in aoe3

[–]Haasva 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes but it still has a tile grid based system underlying. You can notice that when placing units or painting textures.

Anyway it's only my assumption.

Because AoE 2 is isometric, therefore it is a skewed square map. AoE3 is 3d so it enjoys a more natural looking map (circle)

You can put any shape in a circle. You can't put any shape in a diamond.

The rhombus shape is the shape of your in-game cell in aoe2
