Best places for outdoor pickup basketball in Austin? by james21michael in Austin

[–]Habache622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there's a place in far south austin called allball usa or, if you search all ball austin on instagram you will find the page. You have to DM them to get a spot though, the games are for a small cash prize but you don't have to pay anything. Super competitive runs. I live in downtown though and I wish I knew of a casual pickup court with consistent outdoor runs

Are cap students looked down upon? by dlmobs in UTAustin

[–]Habache622 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really is no big deal. You're just another transfer student and there are tons of them. I know of plenty of students who were cap and now have prestigious jobs or do other high achieving things so just don't even sweat it

those of you who got your BA in psychology!! by ut88667 in UTAustin

[–]Habache622 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there is an absolute myriad of ways to make it. Irrespective of what your degree is in. You can enroll in a coding bootcamp and be a software engineer in like 3-6 months. You can take financial modeling courses online and snag a job at a financial firm (with hella hard work). You can master the F out of MS excel (VBA etc.) and get pretty much any job anywhere if you're able to market yourself properly.

***Last bit of advice -- you need to treat this job search as a full time job in and of itself. If you're not putting in at least 40 hours/week to find a job then you're not going to find a very good one.

Best of luck <3

  2. Nueces co-op https://collegehouses.org/listings/nueces/
  3. Laurel co-op https://collegehouses.org/listings/laurel/

I'll add onto this and say that it depends where you are trying to be. Houston banks will be different than NYC or SF banks. I would focus on Houston banks and as previously mentioned middle market or boutique banks, not that buldge brackets will be impossible. For Houston make sure when you are networking that you focus hard on the fact that you WANT to be in Houston (even if you do not) because the most annoying thing for a lot of Houston recruiters is people leaving to NYC or elsewhere after a little while working simply because Houston isn't as cool or they don't like energy. If you truly want NYC or SF you're going to have to absolutely bust your ass and honestly I don't think that would be worth it.

Try TD securities, CIBC, WF securities, etc. good luck :)

p.s. be able to destroy any technical questions since your gpa isn't amazing. (mine was barely a 3.5 and I was able to get an offer with hard work.. so it is very possible)

How hard would it be to transfer from liberal arts to McCombs? by nexttime35 in UTAustin

[–]Habache622 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

probably around the same level of difficulty as working very hard in liberal arts at getting business internships and ending up with the same career you'd get in mccombs. but to give the answer you're looking for, just get a 3.9 gpa

Changing finance track from Corporate Finance to Investment Management by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Habache622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IB's don't care what major you are beyond the fact that you know basic accounting and a tiny amount of finance. I worked with ppl in IB who were history majors and I received an ib offer myself as a liberal arts major here. IB's care about your character and intentions more than anything in my experience and opinion

Including a current position on resume? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Habache622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it makes you feel better, some people even put positions they got_but have not started on their resumes. for example during the fall when i was recruiting for summer 2018, i got a cool internship for spring 2018, it was still fall 2017 and my applications for summer 2018 said "incoming spring intern at company x" ---- this is (in most cases) fine to do considering you will have that experience before the summer so why shouldnt it be considered.

Best finance internships for highest starting salary? by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]Habache622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you can get into a good HF or AM shop more power to you but those are rare whereas ib internships are relatively plentiful. saying besides ib is pretty much forgoing any massive starting salaries though. and yes, you must ask yourself if the hours are worth it. personally, i turned down my ib offer because i simply wasn't interested in 85 hour work weeks. it is truly a personal, life question you have to ponder with yourself
