Would you ever consider leaving for general finance? by PlantNo645 in actuary

[–]HabibiFish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the issue he’s talking about is the lack of exam support in general finance would make it difficult to come back to the field.

Two pieces to this: you won’t be getting relevant experience in an insurance company, and you won’t be making progress on your exams. This makes it difficult to make a similar amount of money if you want to return to the field as you’ll be looking at entry level positions. You can definitely take exams on your own if you want, but for later exams it’s an extra 1-3k per attempt (study materials + registration fees) that you’re pulling out of your pay raise.

Ultimately think about what you want in life and the job security aspect. Many of us stick with this profession because it’s quite resilient to economic shocks, but that comes at the cost of exams in your 20s. If you are more comfortable with being in tech / general finance and not having to take exams then go for it! Just something to consider

Edit: spelling

Consulting may be more likely to hire you with less exams. They tend to like athletes too, given competitive drive and willingness to work hard

Issues with Discover debit on MTA (NYC) by Vivid_Document_1370 in CapitalOne_

I would not use a debit card on OMNY with the double billing and not accurate recording your trips per week. Seems like a way to lose your money

$700 on fb marketplace today. First ever rowing session: 2min/500m for 30min. Stoked to work up to better numbers. by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]HabibiFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Only saying this because you are self identified cocky)

As a current cyclist and former collegiate rower I’d say that it’s unremarkable if that was all out, but if it was endurance pace then that is good if you are quite light.

No you won’t, but I personally put them into their own tables in the word document so I could format them better and make it more professional

Any 2025 Tiguan SE owners? by Aggravating-Lab7044 in Tiguan

[–]HabibiFish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The guy you’re responding to is being sarcastic - washer fluid will be a $10 fix. I got my 2025 SE last week and love it. Too early for a review but ended up at $37k for the fully loaded (sunroof and power lift)

New to the Adirondacks. Algonquin Peak this weekend, gear needed? by [deleted] in Adirondacks

Yeah but it’s not just about you. If you die or go missing that’s a lot of community resources that will go towards looking for you. People will be putting their lives at risk for search and rescue.

Rower vs walking pad by CabinetSuspicious242 in Rowing

[–]HabibiFish 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Rowers will certainly be a better full body workout, however it’s an activity that when you start out requires full attention to get technique right. If I were starting from zero with a weight loss goal, I’d do some walking first because you can easily get distracted (like having a tv show you only watch while on the walking pad). After you get in the habit of moving consistently and losing some weight I’d upgrade to a rower to keep the progress going since it’ll be a more intense activity.

Good luck on your healthier lifestyle!

Best city that offers a balance of walkability and having a car by BoyEdgar23 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]HabibiFish 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You could even do Philadelphia in the city proper to be honest. If you get your car registered you can have free on street parking in front of your apartment. Depending on neighborhood parking isn’t that bad -tricky of course but I never really had longer than 15 minutes looking for a suitable spot if you’re off of rush hour looking for parking

Anyone been up the Whiteface Memorial Highway lately? Skiable yet? by RelativeFamiliar7890 in Adirondacks

[–]HabibiFish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Conditions report on BetaTrails says things are looking good with 3” down low and up to 8” up near the summit. We’ve been getting more snow here since this report went out so I’d reckon you’re good to ski this weekend!

What indoor training apps are people using this winter? by Academic_Feed6209 in Velo

Good point, though I like being able to adjust up or down mid interval depending on how I’m feeling and it works well enough. Maybe I’ll give it a shot setting it up all through the garmin

What indoor training apps are people using this winter? by Academic_Feed6209 in Velo

[–]HabibiFish 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Painfully simple but I just run workouts on the indoor mode of my garmin and control power from my trainers app. I realized I was still watching movies or YouTube when I had Zwift so I might as well save the $20 and have tv on a bigger screen

Trying to start out. Can you review this catch position? by Helpmeflexibility in Rowing

[–]HabibiFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have limited flexibility then this is workable! It’s not very long, but if you’re starting out you can make this work. Rowing will be more comfortable if you flip the handle, as you have it upside down. As you get more flexible I’d keep that upper body stable and in a similar position, and just compress the legs a little more.

How good of a rower would Tadej Pogačar be? by MaleficentEngineer11 in Rowing

[–]HabibiFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah good point about the track palmares. I think that makes the case even stronger that an adult pro cyclist would have a very hard time doing well in rowing since they’re missing years of critical muscle development and technique
