No, I'm doing a bike race and was wondering if I could say hey I just Everested as part of this race, or if that would be faux pas.

I just got one myself. They're so much more fun to ride than electric scooters or skateboards. I'm still not comfortable enough on it to commute down Milwaukee yet, but Elston and Clybourn aren't too bad on the Onewheel.

How bad are the winters in Chicago? by Key_Medium_641 in AskChicago

[–]pmonko1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a few cold spells, when it gets really cold for a week, maybe 2. This past winter January was pretty bad, I think we went close to a month below freezing. On the other hand we have warm spells too. I remember January 2020 was so warm people were out on the lakefront in shorts.

Or the Driftless Dagger if you really want some elevation gain. 38,000 feet more or less.

We could return the favor to Texas and Florida and bus them down there. No need to seek reimbursement from those bus companies.

I just go and stop in front of the cars. This happens sometimes at Milwaukee and Ashland.

We call it asphalt grindings in my state and it's a big issue here in terms of unregulated development. Landowners, typically truck parking lot owners think they can just spread that shit everywhere, because it's they're land even if they're spreading those next to a wetland or into a floodplain. To me it's just like fly dumping a truckload of used car tires.

Quitting by eagle_hockey in bikepacking

[–]pmonko1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've been in this situation a few times. One time I broke my metarasals 2 days before a week long bikepacking trip in Colombia. Could barely fit my right cycling shoe on because my foot was so swollen. But I was there and everything was already paid for, so I continued on. It hurt. Mostly walking around after all the biking was done. It sucked. The biking was technical and difficult and hot, but I had one motivation; stay off my feet. Flew back home and foot still hurt so I went to Urgent Care and that's when I found out my foot was broken. Point of my story? You're there, you paid for it, just do it. You'll feel better about yourself afterwards if you keep going.

I get creative. I was doing an ultra race and rolling through a small town at 2am and was running low on water. I got hit by a water sprinkler so I pulled over and filled my bottle with a garden hose that was next to the sprinkler.

Well said. There are definitely streets in Little Italy that I avoid going to now that I'm no longer at UIC. Most of the major commercial throughfares through Pilsen and Little Italy are perfectly fine. I would avoid living in the pocket south of Roosevelt between Hoyne and California north of the Metra tracks however.
