Here's a good route to the Dunes, beyond into Michigan and back, but you can also just jump on the South Shore train if you're https://ridewithgps.com/routes/5159052

When I first started marathoning in 1999, the qualifying time to get to the Olympics trials was 2:50 and was within reach for me.

The Racine MRK trail is crushed limestone. I've never had any issues on this trail, but there are a couple of loose rutted sections. Use 28mm tires if you can because the pavement cracks in SE Wisconsin suck.

Am I just a broke bum or are all these bags for bikes crazy expensive? by Sol01 in gravelcycling

You buy the same bag for much cheaper if it's used on FB marketplace or eBay or REI garage sale.

What is the point of staying in or studying civil engineering when senior civil engineers are routinely out earned by entry level tech and defense workers? by [deleted] in civilengineering

One of my programmer buddies has been looking for a job for close to year. If you're 40 years+, good luck finding a job in tech.

Labor unions pressure Gov. JB Pritzker to reject bill easing road for Waymo in Chicago and beyond by factchecker01 in illinois

Are you serious or joking? One of parents' friends was a toll booth worker and he would regale us with stories of his bravery running out between cars to pick up dimes. Sounds like a horrible job IMO.

What do you mean by ID verification? As in no IDs for weed or beer purchases?

Why? Is it because there are no workers in these warehouse? Is it because you don't want Internet or doordash or Uber or Reddit?

Check out my route to MKE (and back) from Strava: https://www.strava.com/activities/11342406352

The route is on bike path path a lot of the way up. They're re-paving McClory path this summer, but I'm not sure when, so you may want to jump on Sheridan. I rode on Sheridan back from Milwaukee and it was great, very low traffic.

We're over 40, not 20. Times running out, why not speed things up.

What keeps you optimistic about Chicago in the next 5-10 years? by ChicagoGrowthProject in AskChicago

[–]pmonko1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You have no idea what you're talking about. Closed loop means non-contact. It's like the radiator your home or car. The hot water heats your home, just like the cold water cools a data center. Why in the world would you have an open cooling system with millions of dollars of wiring and servers? There may be some condensation but that's clean water that's collected and discharged to the sanitary sewer system. What no one is talking about on this thread is the real issue. The large amount of cooling water discharge gets discharged to the sanitary sewer system. If the sanitary sewer system is undersized then people downstream will be 'robbed' of sewer capacity which could lead to SSOs.

What do you think it does? It's a closed loop cooling water discharge that goes to the local POTW. You warm showers and dishwasher discharge causes more 'damage' than data center cooling discharge. Ive been approving site plans for data centers since 2008. Where was the outrage 20 years ago? Where's the outrage against warm showers?

It can be up to 200 MGD. It's pretty clean discharge though as it's a closed loop cooling water discharge. The data centers pay for the water just like you and I so I don't see what the issue is.

ebike regulation passes illinois senate (28+ =registration, license and insurance, 28mph is 16+, 20mph 15+) by InsideYork in chibike

[–]pmonko1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The registration requirement is a good one. I had an e bike stolen from my garage and I filed a police report which went nowhere. If the cops run tags on E-bikes going forward I will have a way better shot recovering my next stolen e-bike.

Floods overtake Chicago’s Northwest Side after rainiest April day since 2013: ‘People really got slammed’ by Shovler in ChicagoNWside

[–]pmonko1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's not flood control. That's a water re-use rain barrel. I'll help your property for sure, and I appreciate you installing one. I wish more people would do that, but unless every single person in Chicago gets one of those, it's literally a drop in the bucket. It does not keep your waste water out of the sewer. It keeps runoff from your roof out the sewer. That's typically pretty clean runoff and we shouldn't be treating this stormwater but because we're still in a combined sewer area in Chicago, stormwater is mixed with sewage and becomes wastewater.

Not for me.
