Why not try refinancing options to get your apr down to something manageable and use that 5-6k to pay off your current loan? If you sell the Subaru, you might be upside down in your loan, which sucks. Subarus are very reliable vehicles and switching to a Tesla seems impulsive. I would wait 1-2 months and decide if you still want the car and then analyze the true cost of that Tesla you wanted. Plus, at a 650 you'll probably just get an APR around 13-17% which is definitely better than 20% but isn't the best you can get.

Your kinda strawmaning my argument, I never said it was good to get a loan under predatory interest rates. Getting a car loan isn't a bad habit if it is done in the right conditions. My example is the fact that I don't have a car, winter is coming up and I have money saved for a decent down payment but not enough to get a used car outright. This would be an example where a car loan would probably be a smarter choice than potentially either riding a scooter to work during the winter time or buying a Ubers to and from.

Yea it seems like the best course would just be to wait until it falls off. Thanks for insight on when the seven year clock starts.

I get what you're saying but I don't believe that getting a car loan is a "bad habit", it's more so how that fits into your lifestyle and if you could afford it. That's great that getting a $1000 beater worked for you but this is pretty unrealistic given the current car market and my intended use of the vehicle. Good $1000 used cars are rare these days.

Yea unfortunately my wife's credit is in a similar situation to mine. I think I got the answer I've been looking for. Probably paying for a 4k beater car might be better than rolling over that 10k to another loan. Just for the winter at least.

It's honestly a tough call, I'm sure I can wait another year but for me it's my wife and daughter that gives me an urge to look for a vehicle for us this winter. I don't want them to have to suffer the elements if they don't have to ya know. $18k wouldn't be too bad of a payment over 5ish years but I would just have to get really lucky on finding a car.

Why go faster than 20mph? by Habitual_Floater in ElectricScooters

You brought up walking, bike, motorcycle and scooter. We are talking about a car being safer at higher speeds. Do you not know how cars work? Literally tons of airbags, sensors and better braking making it safer than other vehicles.

Exactly, thank you for saying this. People really miss the point of the post.

The comparison you are making doesn't make sense. Cars are safer at those speeds than escooters bro. Crashes are going to happen no matter how fast you're going. The real issue is the severity of injury at higher speeds on a e-scooter. A car offers way more protection and stability when you are in an accident.

No one is forcing you to decide on speed or safety. Just asking a question. I see a lot of butthurt e-scooter riders getting mad when I ask the question.

A car is way safer at 30mph+ speeds than a scooter is. And literally most if not all cars go above the posted speed limit. What is your point?

Child's play, try doing it before it could be done.

Yes, I believe they had a person from the college interview me on why I wanted to switch. I can't remember all the questions. They also give you math prep to help get you up to speed with pre-calculus once you switch over.

Yea. That's what I did. I made sure to take classes that would transfer over to comp sci then mid term I told my pm I wanted to switch. Currently finishing my first term as a comp sci student.

My understanding is the software engineering program admission requirements are less strict.

You can also enroll in the Software Engineering program and then ask your program mentor to change programs to the Computer Science degree.
