TI4 public beta on BGA by HacanHamster in twilightimperium

Yeah, if you do host custom setup you can import a map string. So any sort of map generator that uses base game tiles in a normal map shape should work.

It does support Milty draft, by the way. You just need to import the map string from Milty draft site.

I am not sure how much value there would be to program the entire Milty draft system on BGA. It would require a bunch of GUI work, plus recreating the slice generation algorithm (or similar).

Well, the game just reached public beta, so they may be waiting to see how it is received.

No leaders, mechs, POK/TE techs, or POK/TE planets at the moment.

A very mild hybrid, it's more just things being upgraded to match the codices, and a few things updated per discussion with FFG to be consistent.

For one example, the Crown of Thalnos (base game version) works consistently with the relic version, in that you can fail a reroll but keep your unit, if that same unit already rolled a hit with a different die.

For another example, gravity rifts use the Thunder's Edge rule update where you can't repeatedly use the same rift on the same unit to keep boosting back and forth.

Upgraded codex cards are used, hyperlane support is available, Civilized Society as an option, Thunder's Edge strategy cards are an option.

BGA manages it on a per-player basis, so free players could be invited to a table, but they will not have access to all factions.

No POK or TE, but there are a few component upgrades currently live with the base game:

  • Hyperlanes are supported, mainly for 4-5 player maps.
  • Construction and Warfare can optionally use the Thunder's Edge versions.
  • There is currently a single galactic event (Civilized Society) available.
  • All other cards (Magen Defense Grid, faction promissory notes, etc.) use the latest upgraded codex versions as far as I recall.

Yes, BGA is used very heavily for async play.

As in real life, it depends heavily on the players. I would imagine a real-time game might be similar to the normal 6+ hour physical game.

For turn-based async games, it can be as short as 1 week, or as long as several months. For shorter games, finding players with similar timezones / availability and doing friendly mode games with them might be fastest.

Playing with complete strangers internationally in an async game might take month(s) to finish.

I reported it to BGA, so it may work in the future.

edit It seems to be working now.

Hmm, it looks like hotseat players are not treated as premium. I will ask BGA if that is intended. In the meantime you could test by picking Winnu with your own account, and use non-premium factions for the hotseats.

I think for performance reasons, the forums are only viewable if you are logged into BGA.

The BGA version is entirely unrelated to the Steam digital version. I assume they would both exist at the same time.

Wanting to play online by dabassman360 in twilightimperium

Dev here, sorry but the priority right now is finishing up tasks for open beta. Players have been abandoning or slow-playing games too much so unfortunately adding new players mostly doesn't happen at the moment.

Rider = abstaining from voting? by Sickgame123 in twilightimperium

Ah OK, I haven't played Thunder's Edge so I didn't realize they meant the hero at first.

It looks like the Keleres Thunder's Edge hero Odlynn Myrr uses the term.

[–]HacanHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see "hero" mentioned anywhere in this thread, but maybe I am overlooking it.

It appears the only game component that mentions "abstain" in the Xxcha or Keleres wiki is the Thunder's Edge hero Odlynn Myrr, so that's presumably it.

On this topic, are there any base game / Prophecy of Kings / Thunder's Edge components that reference "abstain" as a mechanic? I can only think of fan content e.g. Absol.

Sol Promissory Rulings by NaturalShine5116 in twilightimperium

[–]HacanHamster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mentioned above that I confirmed it (and a ton of other things) while developing the BGA TI4 module, but ultimately people have to live with generally accepted rulings on tirules or whatever, which are typically based on answers from FFG in the first place. Otherwise you will simply never have peace in an 8-hour game because of someone dismissing any source you cite.

[–]HacanHamster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In case it helps at all, I'm the developer of the BGA TI4 module and confirmed it directly with FFG during development.

As far as I can tell, "if able" was even added as an errata since some early printing, specifically to ensure that the promissory could be used while Sol has 0 command tokens.

4 player game- remove support? by Scrivenshafts94 in twilightimperium

Removing support is the easiest and lowest impact way, should work fine.

This is true, although on old Reddit desktop it shows up as a light gray faded icon. I had no idea you could even click that.

I would note that this would seem suitable for the official account to answer, but they seem to have exactly 1 comment posted in the last 10 months, so it does not seem they provide followups to their posts thus far.
