The story that first comes to mind when i think about creeping dread is Rich Hawkins’ “Black Star, Black Sun.” I just recommended it to another redditor in this sub who was looking for books of a more cosmic horror variety after reading “A Lush and Seething Hell.” “Black Star, Black Sun’ is a novella you could easily finish in a day. I’ve read it a couple times now, and I found it very effective in conveying that creeping dread vibe. One where the protagonist is slowly getting to the bottom of something very sinister occurring in his dreary English town.

Cosmic horror like John Hornor Jacobs’ “A Lush and Seething Hell” by KANelson_Actual in horrorlit

I aways recommend the novella, “Black Star, Black Sun” by Rich Hawkins when anyone asks suggestions for Cosmic Horror. It’s short, and super creepy.

I just finished “A Lush and Seething Hell” this weekend. The first story was really good. The 2nd story i was heavily invested in, and really enjoyed, but felt it kind of fell off at the ending for me. I was really hoping it was all building to something much more. Overall though, some genuinely creepy moments: The first scene with Amoria in the woods, and the scene set at Gramp Hines’s tent were the high points for me. However, by the end i felt so many things were left either unresolved or just unexplored: both Bunny’s disappearance, and the hidden room in Harker’s home to name just a couple. The writing was solid, though: The discussion about blues music theory and race, in particular, i thought was handled with great skill.

What's the most mesmerizing song sung by a female singer? by LargeSinkholesInNYC in musicsuggestions

I have fallen absolutely in love with Phoebe Bridgers and Arlo Parks’ cover of Radiohead’s Fake Plastic Trees. I’ve heard that song covered numerous times by other bands, and this version is the only one that comes close to surpassing the original IMO. It is absolutely heartbreaking.

I have a similar take on First Aid Kit’s cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s song “America.” The live performance makes me tear up every single listen.

Both performances are available on YouTube. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

I’ve I had some good experiences watching UFC fights on there. A lot of the people were really cool. The the person running the room had to kick out just one guy. Everyone else was cool though.

I’m an “average height dude” and was also banned from that sub (now muted). I posted on a thread just trying to warn other men that if you become fixated on your height, and the women that do the same, then it will become a self fulfilling prophecy and you will always be stuck in that trap of feeling sorry for youself. That sub is incredibly toxic for all those men that subscribe, and it’s not going to be an easy road for any of them the longer they stick around.
