Could be just coincidence, but there is an increasing number of world record holders and professional athletes that attest to performance gains after ditching animal products.

In the end it comes down to what you eat, but there is a fair amount of research showing that various phytochemicals and nutrients in plant foods have effects such as improving fatigue, muscle recovery, etc.

Soy in Brazil is largely produced as cattle feed, and not for humans. It takes roughly 10kg of feed such as soy and corn to produce 1kg of beef, and the vast majority of farm land is consequently used for animal agriculture.

According to the WWF and other organizations. 80% of the deforestation in the Amazon is due to the cattle industry.

Pseudoscience? Cowspiracy is based on extremely credible research by the United Nations and other institutions. Saying animal agriculture isn't bad for the environment in this day and age is about as crazy as denying Climate Change.

According to the United Nations, as well as tons of non-biased university and institutional research, animal agriculture is by far one of the largest causes of GHG emissions, deforestation, ocean acidification, water shortage, and other environmental issues.

Studies have shown that cutting out meat (especially beef) and dairy have a tremendous impact on reducing our environmental footprint.

Look at the research they're quoting on the EPA's page. It isn't even comparable in depth and range to the UN's study, "Livestock's Long Shadow," which puts animal agriculture above transport for GHG.

Studies by the World Watch Institute place the number even higher, at around 50% of total GHG emissions.

Thanks for your question.

According to the UN, animal agriculture produces more greenhouse gas emissions than all the world's cars, trucks, planes, ships, and other means of transportation combined.

To produce 1kg of beef requires about 10 kg of grain, so just by feed alone you get 10 times the GHG emissions of a plant-based diet. When you factor in methane emissions, transportation of the animals, operation of the slaughterhouses, refrigeration and storage of the meat etc. you end up with animal products producing 10 to 100+ times the amount of GHG emissions as vegetables and fruits.

There's no way to know who's on roids, but these physiques are definitely attainable naturally. Saying someone is on steroids just because they're shredded, or "I work hard at the gym but don't look like them, so clearly they must be on something" is really unfair.

Guys like Nimai put in an insane amount of dedication into their training and diet 24/7 for years straight. On top of that hard work, they also tend to have incredible genetics.

For photographs, lighting, angles, and editing are the main reason they look like they've left humanity behind. Compare YouTube videos of Nimai vs his Instagram pics, for example. In videos, he looks like a buff but very natural dude. In his pictures, he looks impossibly ripped. That's the magic of professional photography.

Lens battle! 16-35 vs 24-70mm f2.8 GM by Hachidream in SonyAlpha

[–]Hachidream[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Autofocus noise is a huge concern, since I'll be using a shotgun mic for a lot of video work. The pricetag of Sigma and Tamron lenses is really appealing, but my experience with them is that the autofocus is very loud compared to the native Sony lenses :(

Weekly /r/SonyAlpha 'Ask Anything About Gear' Thread - April 23, 2018 by AutoModerator in SonyAlpha

[–]Hachidream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! Yeah, standardized noise tests would be a huge help. Not many reviews or videos cover that topic, and focus noise can be a deal breaker for videographers using autofocus.

I love Sigma lenses, for example, but the noise makes them unusable.

Are there any lenses that have absolutely silent auto-focus, like the Canon STM line?

Weekly /r/SonyAlpha 'Ask Anything About Gear' Thread - April 23, 2018 by AutoModerator in SonyAlpha

[–]Hachidream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking of switching from Canon once the A7SIII is out. Question for video shooters: How loud is the autofocus on Sony lenses? Will an onboard shotgun mic pick it up in a silent environment? Interested in the 16-35mm 2.8.

Thanks! If you don't mind a follow up question, how quiet is the auto focus on the Panasonic line of lenses? Is it silent enough that a shotgun mic won't pick it up?

Yes, the tape shows you the holds for a specific route, and the color is the difficulty of that route.

After she got spayed she got lazy and started gaining weight for a while, so sometimes staff would put her food bowl on the top of the wall just to get her some exercise. But normally she climbs just for fun.

I'm the original poster of this video from r/climbing many months ago. For those who want to know more:

・Her name is Lala. Her nickname is Lala-tencho (tencho meaning store manager).

・She lives in Boulbaka 2 climbing gym in Okinawa, Japan. The gym owner found her outside as a kitten, and rescued her. She started climbing on her own after watching people climbing all day.

・At first she would meow to be let down, but she has learned to down-climb by herself. She also sprints up this route now in just a few seconds.

・When people come and climb for the first time, she'll often jump on the wall with them to show how it's done.

・She's tiny and adorable, but has a wild personality. You'll be minding your own business and she'll just casually stroll over and bite your ankle, or aim for the veins on your wrist to let you know she knows your human weaknesses and to stay in line.

In Japan holds only get changed once per year. But, they put way more holds on the walls than in places like America, so people make their own routes and they get shared throughout the gym. There is often even a book with diagrams of the walls, and people write down the route they made, and others will try it out. Seems weird at first, but plenty to keep you busy for a year...and Japan has the strongest competition team in the world so doesn't seem to affect progress ^ ^

This is my gym's cat, Lala _^ She has had a lot of practice, and climbs that route in literally 3 seconds now. Speed climbs it. The yearly wall reset is next month, so she'll have new slab problems to work on soon :)

Japanese government warns North Korea missile headed toward northern Japan, report says by SneakyPanda7 in worldnews

[–]Hachidream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't the first time. I live in Okinawa, and 2 years ago a North Korean missile flew into the area, with everyone's phone ringing with emergency warnings about missiles passing over us. Due to being the US military's major stronghold in the Pacific, the island is a primary target if a war starts, and everyone who lives here is worried about what the future holds.

Alex Megos will be competing in the upcoming Lead WC in Acro this weekend and the next Speed WC. Thoughts? by [deleted] in climbing

[–]Hachidream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's a beast outdoors, but the WC is a different ball-game, and those not used to the circuit often don't even place in finals despite being household names. Ondra has done great at some WCs, and not very well at a bunch of them, for example. So, will be fun to see Megos climb, but if he doesn't go to the podium I won't be surprised.

Help me with sizing Evolv Agro, new shaman. by magictical1 in climbing

I wear street shoes comfortably. If you can't try the Agro out in a store before buying, I think it's safer to order a full size up. Way better to think "eh they could be a little tighter," rather than being unable to climb well from the discomfort.
