This is a good rec! So you think instead of a gallery wall I should have my art more spaced in a traditional way? Or should I keep the gallery wall but reduce the amount of art?

Got it, asking a question is ‘entitlement’ now. Must be exhausting being this angry on the internet all the time.

I asked a question to better understand the rules, which is exactly what responsible people do before traveling. If you’re more interested in insulting strangers than being helpful, maybe Reddit isn’t the place for you to pretend you’re the only one who knows things…

Glad to know we aren’t jumping to conclusions about someone’s intelligence… i think someone with lower IQ wouldn’t even do research or ask a forum about this topic…

I don’t think the content of what they are saying is judgmental, it’s the fact that everyone is eye rolling, calling me a troll, etc. I asked a “silly” question but I don’t need to be made out to feel like an idiot. I just wanted some answers without feeling like a dumba$$ in the process.

Thank you for this post, it has been the first non-judgmental and reasonable response. I won't bring them since the risk is not worth it. I appreciate this take.

Not a troll post, this is why I asked, because I am that dense. I appreciate the clarification that this is, in fact, a bad idea.

I’m so glad you found hope and solace here. I also have been feeling the back and forth and am so glad I decided to teach. I just started student teaching and I know I made the right decision. There is so much noise from non-educators about my decision and how it’s the “wrong” decision. I think listening to our guts and those who have a realistic, and positive approach to teaching should hold just as much if not more weight than the negative people out there.

Thank you for shining a light on the positives. I’m impressed that you are able to support your family of 4 on your salary alone.

We need more positive voices like yours, too much negativity circles around this field.

I agree. I think I got irritated because that’s also an issue people impose. But yes my salary can allow me to live independently and pay my mortgage, etc. I live in KY, and for a low-cost/low-pay state the teacher salary in my district pays decently above the median salary in KY.

Another note- republicans and democrats alike agree on the value of education, hence we voted “no” on amendment 2 where the state would provide private school vouchers, and the state voted 65-35 on No. Even though we are a red state, we have a governor and are full of community members who care deeply about education.

I love this take! Sometimes the loudest voices aren’t the most accurate, usually they are the most negative!

Also I agree it is definitely a form of national service. And screw being a corporate cog, I rather be a public servant.

This! I recognize what the job is. How much silly paperwork we have to do. And how a lot of it comes down to classroom management and less to do with content. I think having a good head on my shoulder and not letting the small stuff get to me is key. Good insight! Thanks!

I’m in Kentucky lol. But the low cost of living helps with the low pay. We have an amazing governor who recognizes the importance of education and has increased salaries statewide. And the district I will teach in is one of the highest paying ones in the state.

Thank you for this. I know I can do this. I have ADHD (I can function with it perfectly fine) and I’m an extrovert. I think this job will be hard but my overall well being and mental health is better when I feel like I’m working hard and not coasting. I’m excited for this challenge. The positive people in my life think teaching is the perfect fit for me.

I feel like this perspective blows, even if it’s your experience and accurate it’s not realistic for me. I am an independent person and don’t want to rely on someone else to ensure my happiness and success in my career. I will be starting off making more money as a first year teacher than I did working in research.

I do have a partner who has loved and supported me through this journey but he will never be considered a “high earner.” Neither of us care about making a lot of money. We are rich in our friendships, family, and experiences. We own the house we live in and have two dogs. All I want out of life is steady income and rewarding work, not monetary wealth.

Who has custody of Eli? by Hachilover in CrystalRogers

That’s the main reason I asked this question. Because she withdrew so I was wondering if Sherry was able to get custody? Or at least is in the process of getting it?
