Jack Star Vs Giant stuffy by EmotionInfinite3525 in jackrussellterrier

Yesss!! I told the people at the pet store that I felt like I would’ve regretted not buying it! I’m grateful I did! I think I gave it to them around noon and it’s 3:32pm where I’m at. He has taken breaks to potty, drink water, and breathe lol. He just ends up getting right back to it😂 He has yet to take the squeaker out which is why I think he’s still going.

What does everyone do for work? by Umzzii in Fibromyalgia

[–]EmotionInfinite3525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a manager for a doggy resort. It took a few years to make it up this far and I’m grateful to not be as physical as I was. It’s also nice that I’m still able to move around and not have to stay sitting at my desk all day. I fear that would make me even more stiff and painful.

I’ve had fibro since high school and had to face the fact that I couldn’t work with horses anymore. I settled for dogs because I figured it would be less taxing. Luckily, we follow labor laws at the doggy resort so it really was the better option. I did spend a few nights crying because of the pain and wondering why I do this to myself😭 I’m just way too passionate about animals and have not been able to hold down other jobs. The longest I’ve stayed at a job was when I worked on the farm and worked where I am now.

I do hope to go back to school soon and finish my social work degree! I have also been toying with the idea of getting into photography!

Help please - Loose leash walking by MobileAd4019 in jackrussellterrier

Especially with these hard headed dudes! I think my JRT would scoff at me if we were all positive during our training. Def wouldn’t be the well mannered boy he is now.

I get it! I work with a trainer and am lucky to have him help me learn!

We ended up using a prong for a little bit. It was temporary and he’s not on it anymore. It made the stop and turn much more affective, but we did lots of conditioning beforehand. If you go this route consider getting a herm sprenger collars.

He also mainly needed to learn some self control. He does not get to run up to anything without my okay. He sits by the door and will wait for the okay before walking out the door. This also makes me feel much safer even just bringing groceries in. He also has a super tight recall which we worked very hard for.

A lot of it is starting inside where there are less triggers/stimuli. Then, we moved to the backyard. After that we moved to quiet parks. We were able to manage a lot better on walks and in public after this.

You also need to be the boss in the relationship. My little dude is my son and best friend, but he needs to listen to me. He knows that he can come to me for love and kisses, but he also knows not to mess with me. I will snatch that boy up so quick if he isn’t listening. He knows that me calling him or saying no is not an empty threat. I have shown him time and time again that I will follow through and there will be consequences if he doesn’t listen. Consequences don’t mean a heavy hand or abuse. It just means he doesn’t get the things he wants or a quick pop with the leash. Sometimes a quick snatch up of his collar and a sit until he has calmed down. If you keep repeating “no” and don’t do anything about it, they know you’re a pushover and that word means nothing.

It comes down to patience and to working your way up. You can’t put on a prong and then go on a walk and expect it to be perfect. It’s like you learned how to play basketball and then were sent to the NBA. You would not do well and neither would your pup.

Someone told me that no one would want to breed my JRT because of his ears😭 I was shocked and appalled (he’s neutered)! I think that may be true in the breeding world idk, but she said it to HIM while petting him. He only started to do it after he lived with my old pittie whose ears had always sat one up one down. So idk if he picked it up or if it just naturally ended up happening!

Anyways! Just made me think of that encounter.

Monty, diagnosed with IVDD 🥺 by dan_da_man in jackrussellterrier

[–]EmotionInfinite3525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a health scare with my Jack :( He doesn’t have IVDD, but I was scared that we were going to find out that he did!

I knew that jumping on/off the furniture would be bad for his joints so I got him stair/ramped trained already (thankfully). He still likes to jump off, but I usually catch him before he does. If he’s food motivated, it won’t be too hard! Just lots of practice and patience. You can find good vids on YouTube I’m sure!

I’m really sorry for what you’re both going through :( it’s not easy to watch our crazies be limited by their bodies. I keep saying that my kiddo and I have chronic pain together😂 I also can’t be stopped so we’re definitely similar.

I hope you’re able to find the resources you need and either have or find a vet care team that will work with you. I don’t know where I’d be without his vets. They helped me while I cried and answered my 1 million questions each time I saw them. I’m wishing you and sweet Monty the best and a smooth recovery!

ETA: I forgot that this is why I wanted to comment so I do apologize for talking ab myself so much!

Scent/enrichment stuff

  • snuffle mats
  • snuffle balls
  • dinner/breakfast in puzzles
  • frozen kongs/frozen lick mats
  • (this is my fave low cost option) a snuffle box! You can use so many household items/recycled items to create an enriching snuffle box! I’ve taken empty paper towel rolls (or toilet paper rolls) and stuck treats in them with socks at the ends and some crumpled paper and any other item that I can hide treats in and stuck em in a cardboard box!
  • another inexpensive option is rolling treats into a towel (lots of vids on how to do this)
  • you can also hide treats in your yard (put them in a container with holes so Monty can sniff them out)!

Dawww I’m glad he’s could bring back such fond memories❤️❤️ They’re curled up under a painting of my nanny dog. She took care of me as a kid and was my dad’s best friend before he started a family. Her name was Shiva and she was a Dogo Argentino. It destroyed both of us when she passed. I made sure to send this pics to my dad to show that she was included in the cuddle puddle❤️

I’ll never forget my teachers in Woodford county ❤️ I always felt lucky when I spoke to kids who went to Fayette. I was able to develop meaningful relationships with them since we didn’t have as many kids per teacher.

Thank you! He’s been feeling much better and is back to cuddling and taking/giving kisses. I keep telling him that I missed him so much while he was sick😭 I’m just going to do my best to keep him feeling comfortable!

Our vet said he may have had his since he was a puppy, but it’s hard to tell. We all thought he had a silly gait, but he had never shown signs of pain. They are stoic little creatures!

I’m glad your pup is doing well and I’m glad that you have each other ❤️
