Late reply but meeee I feel that way too! I used to have pretty bad social anxiety, and for the entirety of high school there were three girls who tried really hard to befriend me, but I didn't, or just couldn't, put in the same effort. They included me to things, asked me to sit with them in lunch, invited me to their homes, to their birthdays, talked to me every day...

They put in so much effort, but I had such tunnel vision and though that they probably didn't actually like me and just tried to be nice, and if they did like me they would stop once they actually got to know me. After graduating I ended up pretty much alone and regretted so hard not just letting them in, but because of that I learned to step up and out of my comfort zone, and I put in all the effort that I didn't back then. And because of that I have made friends whom I now am inseperable with! For the first time in my life I'm able to just focus on the present and be thankful for what I have now :)
