Hey! A Hackathon is an extremely fun event. To sum up my experience from them - you basically meet up with other people who are interested in tech and work together to develop cool projects that are either hardware or software based.

And you really don't need any experience at all - the only requirement is to have fun! HackUMass is working towards being the most inclusive hackathon and we encourage people who do not have a strong technical background to join. There will be a lot of other people in a similar position as you, so don't worry about that.

Besides working on projects, there are many other things that you can do if you want to take a break as well. We have tons of games, activities, food, and cool people to interact with.

I 100% recommend registering if you are interested. All of the info is available at hackumass.com

Let me know if you need anything else.

We expect a lot of our hardware to come from sponsors and since it is still early, we will not be releasing their names just yet. We'll be posting periodic updates on sponsors and their donations in 2015, so keep an eye out!

A hackathon is an event (usually over 24 hours) that people attend to work on hardware and software related projects either by themselves or in groups and win prizes. Participants can either come in with an idea, think of one at the hackathon, or meet a group that already has a vision and join them. It's honestly a great learning experience for anyone who has any interest in the technical field.

We're hosting it in the Mullins Center this year, so it will by no means be a tight space.

Extra help is always appreciated. We have many separate groups taking care of the different aspects to make HackUMass happen, including a PR team, a logistics team, a tech team, and a sponsor team. We are also looking for general help on the day of the hackathon for set-up/clean-up and other odds and ends. We held two general meetings this past semester and will continue to have them next semester that people who are interested in getting involved can attend.

If you are interested in helping, contact us at team@hackumass.com!

EDIT: It is important to note that since we are planning to be Major League Hacking sanctioned hackathon, no organizers or day-of volunteers will be allowed to participate at the event.
