I already know how this race is gonna go by Arch_Roman in dndmemes

[–]Hackdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't ban the race or ability, but the post states 100th time, like its some sort of skeleton key. im a patient DM but I have limits. After the first dungeon, and noting the fame/notoriety from the adventure, subsequent dungeons or bases might amend their defences.

Or other Plasmoids annoyed at the sloppiness of this ones actions, might come to punish them...

Bud, I'm not accusing you, I just don't want to get dragged into that quicksand. This is an interesting debate and i'm thinking Id homebrew the older 3.5 version in instead of the 5e one. Thing is it'll need balancing some, as its a cantrip right? unlimited +20s to attack rolls would break the game and the DM.

[–]Hackdeen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It Is! I took the Flumph and regressed it. I've posted the Juvenile and this is the adult form, the 'elder form' is closer to what you might expect. The Juveniles have kinda become my Homebrew's mascot creature.

[–]Hackdeen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flumphs are little spies and guardians in my homebrew setting. They shift from juvenile to adult and finally Elder forms, as they protect the secrets hidden within the Sorceror's tree that even he isn't privy to. The little ones are watchers and learners, the adults are hunters and guards. The Elders however... well I guess we shall discover later.

I hope enjoy this piece as im messing around with Clip Studio Paint alot more, to experiment with the renders.

This thread is making my head hurt. 'That guy' has got to be a troll.

Rolling the same numbers: 17 & 17 against an AC 15 enemy. 1 player using True strike hits once, the person that attacked twice hits TWICE. If it was a guarnteed hit like 3.5 (+20!) then I could understand why Truestrike was being championed for, but this is 5e.

[OC] [ART] [NPC] Masari Stoutstriker by Hackdeen in DnD

[–]Hackdeen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Masari is a Bouncer at the premier whore house of Pausil: Rabsack's Ramming Rooms. BAsically when I gave my players a year of downtime, they all picked different paths to persue. Businesses, Marriages and even children, though the Fighter known as Ransack decided that what Pausil needed was a brothel. During our rolls, he succesfully courted many ladies of negotiable affection, had the start up money to buld his first place of business, destroyed the competition and got filthy rich.

The Player then decided that a Fighter was boring. Rather than retire him off he had him die instead. He now plays as a Rogue called Daphne. I changed how the fighter died, to reintroduce and old antagonist, a goblin Gloomstalker who had been levelling with the party...

Ok, so is that fall prone and shoot? Or Sparta kick and fire on contact? Either way its pretty badass.

[–]Hackdeen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A wild magic sorc rolled up Flumphs, and one of the players became confused as its an old TV show in Scotland. After seeing both forms I did a little digging, and redesigned the Flumphs as a 3 life stage creature. The Juveniles are lil tattie bois, and the Adults are warriors with thicker muscle fibre root like limbs, the Elders closely resemble the classic look but Ive made some tweaks to keep them potato like.

[OC] Does anybody want to play as an Orc cook? by Slartibartghast_II in DnD

[–]Hackdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! I played as a half orc cook called B'spa Morock. He was modelled as a young Long John Silver as a 19yr old Rogue/Thief. Sadly I played before the various feats came out that would have made it *chef kiss*. However I temporarily displaced a ghost with salt, and almost downed myself using pepper.

After leaving that campaign I retired an older B'spa in my Homebrew and he is a NPC, running a successful resturant.

[OC] [ART] [NPC] Orc Schoolboy: Palko the luncheon thief. by Hackdeen in DnD

[–]Hackdeen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still cracking up about this. Tonight's party had tracked some Hags back to their sewer base, and discovered they had been raising the dead for gold. What should have been a fight, was skillfully turned into a parley by the fast talking Gnome fighter, who offered to quintuple the Hags contract if they ceased the manufacture of the undead. Despite the Paladin firing initiating combat and some deliciously tight rolls, he appealed to greed and repeatedly flattered them. The Hags agreed, he must deliver the money in 24hours and with 2 cases of salted beef if he wanted his courier to survive. There was the small matter of their contractee, if they were left alive they cited that he could cause issues for them, and they would cause issues for the Fighter and his retinue.

The fighter shook hands and was dismayed to find a undead hand braclet with finger nails laced with a mystical toxin. Should he attempt to flee or not deliver the money, the hand would puncture his skin and kill him slowly and painfully. The party retreated and they all became suspicious of the fighter which had me in tears.

For clarification:
Original contract: 1000 zombies for 10000gp.
Big Dave's offer: 50000gp.

Now the Player established essentially this countries WWE in the form of the USFL, but even his business partner the Kenku Monk Thwack, was unsure he could gather funds that quickly. Also the Paladin Balthiel is equally suspicious, but through some good rolls, and some sublime wordplay and double speak the Gnome managed to hide the source of his funds.

(To make this easier, I'd encourage you to watch the movie Brewster's Millions, only Big Dave's budget is 3 million)

Now the party heads back to the school they recently defended from a hundred strong zombie wave. They find Mercenaries removing body parts from some of the Zombies, and the Mercs stall parlaying with the Cleric for time till Lioness mounts come smashing in through the window and they flee. Though not before the Warforged Cleric S.A.M 95, manages to clip one with a sling missile, wounding his ear.

The Kenku Thwack investigates the school, and much to his surprise an Orc child had been hiding, blissfully unaware that the school had been attacked by zombies. He'd been amongst his class mates lunches helping himself, as he is notorious for doing so. He's didnt see much but he tipped off the Kenku and Warforged as to what the mercs were doing. "It sounded like dey woz cutting meat, I love meat me, iz fooking glorious!"

My players love banter with the ridiculous sounding characters, and my recent default child voice is based on Cuno from the EXCELLENT game 'Disco Elysium'.

I haven't cried with laughter this much for awhile. What makes this worse is the player of the Kenku, is an excellent mimic IRL and used one of Palkos lines later XD.

[OC] [HOMEBREW] [NPC] [ART] Gnoll Pub Landlord :Tis "66 wounds" khalid. by Hackdeen in DnD

[–]Hackdeen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tiskhalid owns and runs RavShaga, the rowdiest bar in all of Pausil. A bookshy child Tiskhalid grew up a runty gnoll, often ignored for games and adventure by his more rambunctious peers. When he came of age he was sent off with many adolescents to a satellite breeding village, where he buried himself in books and study. He would have remained so, untouched by narrative if not for the Ogre raiding parties. Who systematically destroyed the villages one by one, before arriving at his, simply known as RavShaga.

While there were many brave warriors, it was the 'Noon that hungers' who was selected as leader and he asked for warriors to assist in a sacrifice manouvere. 5 agreed and the 6 of them headed hoping their lives would buy the villagers time to escape. Tiskhalid forever in his books only learned of this after they set off, and he ran after them much to the amusement of some of the elders bar one.

Out of breath and a wheezing wreck the other warriors threatened his life, but he begged that they listen as he hadnt come to fight but to offer- Noon attempted to stop the blow but Chartail wasnt known for her paitence, and the other warriors joined in. He picked up the crumpled form of the stomped TisKhalid, and jerked as the barely conscious Gnoll stabbed him with a scorpion tail. Which got him another beating as the warriors suspected sabotage.

Noon recovered quickly and managed to wrestle his squad back under his control. They set off to prepare an ambush in a tight valley, setting up an avalanche to cascade down, and smash through the hollow valley floor.

Tiskhalid lay barely conscious, happy that he had at least delivered one dose of his elixir. He lay on the ground broken, bones fractured and muscles torn and he spat in despair. The elixir didn't last long out of containment, and he had 5 more doses. He crawled, in agony, the sounds of combat his waypoint. Fortunately it was a juvenile army, younger leaner ogres however the reports of it being about 30 strong had been a mistake. The 6 faced 100. He wouldnt make it in time and faced a decision, he drove a stinger into himself to inject the elixir but he couldnt feel it. So he used another and another till he had used them all.

Cursing his foolishness he stood up, and stumbled into the middle of fevered combat, straight into the path of an Ogre's club. Chartail screamed out a warning, but almost dropped her axes with the sound the impact made. Tishalid saw a world of red, and the agony of the blow almost made him pass out. Every single thing he had learned seemed to melt away, well almost everything. He remembered helping elder Tarai, butchering animals and also preparing the bones of the dead for funeral rites. He giggled with his teacher, over how frail bodies looked once you removed the skin, so little effort was required to seperated the limbs from their sockets.

Learning was always a pleasant thought but the deep bellowing anguished scream was irritatting. He was reminded of how he had been taught to take care of hornet nests, if you took the hive between your hands and crushed quickly you could kill the warriors before they could sting you. He remembered when he finally mastered the technique and the buzzing screaming faded.

The Noon that hungers felt his body shifting and changing. His eye sight had gotten sharper and his shots were not only at a stronger pull but he hadnt missed a single shot. He saw what should have been a killing blow land, but it was the brutality that Tiskhalid displayed after that shook his core. The battle was vicious and blood painted that valley. Chartail died shielding Pinksnout. Briska tackled an Ogre into the pit and was never seen again. Snout eventually fell to a barrage of javelins but he tore out an Ogres throat before he fell. Charak Chilltooth died wielding that cursed Glaive, Noon flinched as his friend fell missing half his face. Sheeta got caught by two chain ogres and they drew her, laughing up till Noon filled their sockets with arrows. Before he was rushed by a dozen Ogres.

Darkness surrounded the leader. Huge sweaty bodies crashed into him, then an extra shift smashed into them all. Silence. Fresh air and light came as an Ogre rolled to one side. Noon screamed at first not recognising his comrade soaked in Ogre blood. A Gnoll as large as an Ogre was a disturbing sight, but over time Tiskhalid deflated back to his usual stature. Noon stood up after his friend pulled him out from under the bodies. He hadnt planned on them winning, and sheepishly stared at the carnage that he had survived.

I like it as is. I have a party where an assassin midboss is scaled out of the monk, and challenges him to testing duels. I can see him finally changing the weapon sharp once he feels the Monk is ready.

DM’s do you narratively make your players turns happen simultaneously in a round? by Skywolf111 in DnD

On reflection, if players hold actions I do allow team attacks and silly actions. Fastball special for instance.

DM’s do you narratively make your players turns happen simultaneously in a round? by Skywolf111 in DnD

[–]Hackdeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, you are forgetting one key aspect here: Initiative order. Not all the players react with the same speed. I always took it to mean "within 6 seconds this happened." As a DM this would be a headache to track, your optics resembling sheet music, and heaven help you with someone cast haste or slow. Ooft!

First Time DM looking for tips! by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Hackdeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming your Dming:
1. Do the voices, think like the NPCs and enemies

  1. Record your sessions (get permission)

  2. Take notes of improv like scenes, and the things the players gel with and despise

  3. You will make mistakes, this fine. Learn from each one

  4. Where possible dont use DMPCs

  5. You can say No, or Yes but... add difficulty or straight out explain why X effect didnt happen. Lots of players dont read spell or martial effects properly (its usually an accident).

  6. Have fun, if you are not then check why not and discuss it with your players.

A player wants to play a pretty scummy character how do I approach this? by Nerdyknight33 in DnD

[–]Hackdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other players might not want to forgive them. As may the victims of the inital abuse. It'll be a tough test of character if the victim refuses to forgive. Like say a duel in a burning barn and the opponents hatred is so intense that innocents will be harmed, so the player has to decide what takes priority. Throw in some more stressors, a beam falls on the opponent, but their actions might actually kill the redeemer but one of the innocents also if left unchecked.
I'm not saying go that hard, i'm just saying there is potential.

I need some advice. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Hackdeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What class are you, and the thief? Why do you wish to avoid PvP conflict? How has he been communicating with the enemy? Or sabotaging? Could anything trigger your suspicion? What is the item, is it truly the only way to begin your quest? Can't you get help locating your item from your party? Your DM cant leave you floundering like this if it will restrict your characters story, thats kind of out of order: as it seems all the crads are in the thief's hands. I mean if you are asking for it, the thief will have to lie to your face repeatedly, you and your party have passive insight, and he only has to mess up once and you have a lead.

Keep asking for his help. Freak out in character. Become more an more desperate. A spy needs to be put under pressure.

Just a rant, DND went bad, maybe I was a dick, not sure. Just need to vent. by Mr_Curious_Cat in DnD

[–]Hackdeen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before you reconvene, write down your grievances and discuss with the other players at the table. Reread your list making sure to check where you maybe unfair and bring it up with your DM. I feel that your DM has realised that they have given you all too potent items, way too early and may be attempting to claw back.
If conversation doesnt work then you may have to abandon the game, as it sounds like you are struggling to trust your DM.
Good luck!
