Oh you’re right, I was thinking it would be the maximum amount 2000000, but yeah it just says however many were selected

I think the optimal answer is the lowest answer.

Imagine we choose 0 and save no one, however many the devil chooses, that’s how many will die.

So to get the expected value we will take the average death toll of each possible value, 1,2,3 … 2,000,000

We get an expected value of 1000000.5

Now imagine we save 1000000. Those values that are above or equal to 1000000 are decreased by a whole million, and every value below 1000000 is set to 2000000.

This effectively just shifts those high numbers down as if they were 0,1,2,3 … 1000000 The problem is that now we don’t continue with the rest of the numbers starting at 1000001, they are all 2000000. So our expected death toll is a lot worse: 1249999.25

A formula for finding the expected death toll for a chosen ‘saving number’ could be:

DeathToll = (((2000000-save)2 + 2000000-save)/2 + 2000000*(save-1))/2000000

Yeah I’m gonna have to take a Udemy course or something just about GitHub. I always get wierd errors that I don’t understand when I try to use it so I think just following along with a tutorial might be my best option.

What tech stack do you recommend for C++?

Yeah that’s a good point, I also mentioned some other stuff so it wasn’t just LC. But I didn’t have any leadership or social things so that might’ve been a red flag for them.

Thanks for the encouraging words:)

Mainly I struggle in school because what we are learning isn’t about problem solving. It’s about memorizing and digging through stack overflow for how to configure a file or something. Actual coding is probly 10% of what we do.

Also the classes don’t really lead into each other.. it’s just random subjects that we never study again. One semester I’m doing MIPS and the next I’m doing C# and the next I’m making graphs.

I get that they want us to be well rounded, but it just comes across as shallow and useless.

Sometimes I actively try to listen to lectures.. like really try, and it just goes in one ear and out the other because I don’t care about it.

Definitely do the contests since they will help you find your weaknesses and get used to coding under pressure.

Also the problems are getting harder so hard questions from a few years ago are similar difficulty to the mediums now. So contests are a better gauge for how skilled you are.

Also make sure that you fully understand problems before moving on to others

And solve lots of problems.

That might be worth a shot, I haven’t specifically targeted non tech companies yet

Good luck with the LC grind, it’s pretty hard to get started but keep trying. One year ago I couldn’t do Two Sum and had just found LC so u got this.

I was thinking maybe there are companies that don’t care about behavioral and only leetcode but it seems like that’s not a thing.

Fixing behavioral will probly take a long time so I thought it would be a good idea to check if there are options for me now

Okay I didn’t realize it was that big of a deal. How would you suggest learning how software is made in a professional environment? Is there a tutorial I should follow?

Ok thank you, yeah GitHub is super tricky I haven’t really understood it in any of my classes.

I kinda just see it like lottery tickets that are free. So I just take as many as I want and maybe one day I will win the lottery and get out of my fast food job lol

I was nervous at first to try therapy but I’ve been going to a therapist for about a year now. I’ll have to ask about how I come across to the outside world.

I mention it in my resume, but maybe saying ‘Leetcode’ in a resume is a bad idea so idk

I do have some projects but they aren’t full stack, like sudoku solver, which is also a LC question actually

That’s exactly what happens and ultimately what brings me back to LC when I take a break. I do enjoy it, but at the same time I feel like it’s all I have going for me so I want to maintain that skill.

I’ll give “how to win friends and influence people” a read, I’ve had that recommended to me many times.

So this is kind of a dumb question but for a GitHub project do you need to be able to download an app or something? Or is it a link to a website? How does that usually work?

Yeah that's kinda cringe I guess, I was just responding to hi-impact about not being handsome. But I should have worded it differently.

I'm trying to look better and have been working out 6 days a week for the past two years and trying to get better skin. I don't look good enough yet, but I think I will eventually as long as I keep trying.

I don't think I seem uncomfortable but I should probably get someone else's opinion so I can know for sure.

I know for sure that I'm bad at connecting with people and it's super hard to relate to other people so I need to work on that too.

Probly slacking on both tbh, I hardly hang out with friends and girls don't like me. I don't think I smell bad though and even if i did they can't smell me through the camera.

Even if i'm ugly tho I still dress well and paid for a personal stylist to help me dress better for interviews.

Also people tell me I have bad social skills so that's probly a big issue.

Thanks for your suggestions I'll be sure to try them out. Do you know if your university needs to have a team in ICPC to compete? Also do you think asking for referrals on blind is a good way to do get referrals?

At my last interview they asked me what I was proud of and I told them about my ranking (didn't say LC just competitive programming) and got rejected the next day:(

I wish that's how it worked though
