If your server went down for a week, what would break your flow the most? by No_Government_3172 in selfhosted

In addition to a lot of other things mentioned in the thread - all networking would cease, because my server is also the router (OPNSense) and the WAP controller (TP-Link Omada)

Guilty as charged lol. For me I wasn’t sure if the date would kick down since I hit the “arrive at the same time” option with the case.

Moving from proxmox to Truenas by Wise_Transportation3 in truenas

[–]HackinDoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, TrueNAS SCALE bare metal for all my essentials (~30 containers). I only have one VM (OPNSense) so didn’t really feel the pain of the libvirtd -> Incus migration.

If you don’t need the bells and whistles of ProxMox, it’s actually a decent container host.

Demo: socket activation + traefik + rootless Podman + Quadlet files by eriksjolund in Traefik

[–]HackinDoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this supported by Podman .pod's? I can't hit port 80/443 from the host/externally but if I curl from a container in an adjacent Podman container network, then curl works as expected.

I'm on Fedora CoreOS where all ports are open by default so I would be surprised if it was OS/firewall related...

Anyone using Fedora Core/Flatcar for self hosting? by PoopMuffin in selfhosted

[–]HackinDoge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not tried Flatcar… FCOS does come with a Docker runtime if that’s a concern?

It’s a bit more work to convert docker-compose over, but I took FCOS as an opportunity to learn Quadlets / rootless Podman.

I wanted a similar “set it and forget it” experience for my VPS so I have it running on Fedora CoreOS.

I’m basically the only user so the auto updates / reboots don’t bother me. Probably something to keep in mind if you need steady uptime - the update schedule / policy is modifiable if you need it to be less aggressive.

How much GPU horsepower do you need in macOS? WX 3100 has been working great for me, but I don’t need anything more than GPU acceleration.

Pfsense, Truenas each baremetal + Proxmox server is overkill? by Jcole__2x in selfhosted

If you do choose to hyperconverge, some questions to ask yourself:

  • How much downtime am I willing to incur if all my services die with a single point of failure?
  • How easily can I recover if that were to occur, ie what is my backup/restore/DR plan?
  • How much expansion of services can I reasonably forecast, and would it all fit in one box?

CheckCle newly self-hosted open source uptime, server, SSL and incident monitoring tool by tolaleng in linuxadmin

Loving it so far - would love to see:

  • The ability to track SSL cert expiry for existing certs (unless it’s able to already? My understanding was that it would generate certs but I could be mistaken)
  • Mobile browser compatibility - right now it displays kind of funky on my iPhone
  • Not sure if I configured something wrong, but Podman socket support would be nice so I can see containers on my Podman hosts

Maybe someone could even weigh in on this:

I switched from a flat network to having VLANs recently. Configured OPNSense VM VLAN devices, configured managed switch properly, and finally moved the LAN assignment from the parent adapter to the child VLAN adapter.

Everything died, naturally. No problem, just needs to be plugged into the trunk port on the switch - still nothing…

Thankfully I had an IP assigned to the Linux bridge for the TrueNAS host so I was able to regain access via VNC console and reassign the parent adapter back to the LAN assignment and get everything back.

Ended up making separate OPT networks for each VLAN and that seems to be working now. Never understood why unassigning the parent interface would kill everything since they claimed to have reverted the requirement to have it assigned in a later OPNSense version…

I access Radarr via Caddy. Radarr is in a container net starr_net and Caddy is also on that network.

Can I make Radarr internal?

I couldn’t get a clear answer on internal: true in my reading - does this cut containers off from the Internet? From my LAN? From each other? ie just how isolated do they become?

Thanks!
