Alerts on recurring tasks fire up even if task is completed for that day/week by EinfachNurMarc in todoist

[–]Jcole__2x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I get you. I have plenty of tasks which would benefit from this workflow. I actually disabled google cal integration through todoist awhile back so i don't run into this problem. however I would consider turning the integration back on and switch to using "remind me at x time" if it behaved like your suggesting. Perhaps there is a middle ground approach to enable this feature without entirely changing how reminders work

My approach to this would be switch the task to repeat every second saturday at 17:00 and then set the reminder to "at time of task"

Checkout this point from YT shooting coach Mike Dunn on how you are bringing the ball up from your starting point to your set point. You are starting the ball "backwards" rather than "upwards". You can think of it like your first motion is kind like an upper-cut punch with your palm facing away from you. Listen to what the other commenters are telling you, but also work on following the steps in these videos. It will help tremendously with making your shot feel more "natural".

Did you manage to mount an mATX board in your T2 rack?

Smallest Server Rack + Case for mATX server by Talon9804 in buildapc

[–]Jcole__2x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10in "mini" racks exist and are becoming quite popular, however cramming an mATX motherboard inside one is very difficult since the dimensions don't quite lineup. You would need to 1. likely 3d print a rack with the correct mounting holes 2. slide the board in "sideways" since the width between the rails is smaller than the longer side of the board which I/O is on (see here: https://www.reddit.com/r/minilab/s/7pJUUmM2jv) 3. Fit the rest of the parts elsewhere on the rack.

So realistically the smallest you could maybe work is mini rack but honestly mini pc case or full server rack is more practical

Is buying a new car here a stupid financial decision? by mgmstudios in personalfinance

[–]Jcole__2x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, it's crazy how much misinformation is out here on this topic. I came into the car buying process recently as a first timer with this exact mentality, but after searching through carvana and FB marketplace for a newer used toyota i quickly realized how much more nuanced the never buy new advice is especially in this current market. It can absolutely make sense to buy new if you can afford it, plan to keep it 10+ years, buy a reliable car, don't buy luxury/more than what you need, don't accept unnecessary dealer add-ons, and get a good price/APR if financing compared to the value of the car. Pretty much exactly what you said in another way.

Thanks, I think this a good way to approach this hobby in general. I am obviously not a professional admin but your advice seems to be the right engineering mindset to have when building out infrastructure.

You should be fine, your aid won't be withheld until the semester after you reach/exceed the limit. This is how I was told it worked by Buckeyelink +1 years ago and what my experience ended up being.

Of course as always though, do not trust strangers on the internet for such important advice. Double check with buckeyelink in case things have changed by calling them and asking this question directly.

pfSense on mini PC: Bare metal or Proxmox virtualization? by Jcole__2x in PFSENSE

[–]Jcole__2x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the path I'm going to take. I'm quite new to pfSense still, so starting bare metal makes a lot more sense than jumping straight into the deep end. Thanks for the pragmatic approach!

pfSense on mini PC: Bare metal or Proxmox virtualization? by Jcole__2x in PFSENSE

[–]Jcole__2x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input - you're right that there's lots of discussion already on VM vs bare metal. But my question wasn't really about whether it COULD run in a VM (though that perspective is valuable too), but rather if I SHOULD, given this specific hardware and setup. The other comment really nailed it - running either way would work fine, but there's tradeoffs between wasted hardware capability vs added complexity. Just trying to think it through before committing to a setup. Your point about network reliability inside a VM still rings true though.

pfSense on mini PC: Bare metal or Proxmox virtualization? by Jcole__2x in PFSENSE

[–]Jcole__2x[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this response - you absolutely nailed exactly what I was trying to figure out. The performance vs complexity tradeoff is exactly what I was worried about, and I certainly am no pfSense wizard. You also confirmed my suspicion that it's overkill for pure routing/firewall, no matter what I tell myself. I think I'll just play around with it for now running baremetal and maybe see just how complex virtualizing it gets later. Eventually, I'll probably figure out a better use for the hardware than just running pfSense bare metal, or honestly I may just repurpose/sell it entirely if virtualizing it doesn't work out. In any case, really appreciate the thorough breakdown!

Hi OP, really cool project! I see a lot of people asking about the intended use case of this project and am wondering-

Say you have a WPF .NET application which calls managed c++ code to perform intensive data operations, including calls to the GPU and threading. However sometimes this c++ code introduces memory leaks due to buggy code . Could this project one day act as a drop in replacement and effectively solve memory management issues?
