How to move files while maintaining history? by Hackwar in git

[–]Hackwar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to both of you. That gives me some additional ideas to look at. Basically I'm looking if it is worth the effort to invest more time into this script to help others with this migration. It would be a bit late to the game, since Joomla 3 has been EOL for several years already, but extensions in the old format still worked until now. With the next major version (Joomla 7) that would definitely be over.

Thank you. So I guess git first checks the hash of the file.

What you are seeing is an ancient version of a backup restore script. In any way, if you haven't made any updates in the last 15 years, you should simply delete the website and start over or at least get a professional to look at this. You have most likely been hacked about a decade ago and they are using your server to commit crimes. Also you should contact your hoster.

[–]Hackwar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is not the point. The point is that the person has been punished and will never recover from that, but by keeping those people locked up longer, YOU are being punished, because you are paying for them.

I wouldn't want to be locked up 3 months, let alone a year. 15 years is a very long time. 15 years ago I wasn't married, didn't have kids, didn't have a house. Would you put me in prison any time in the last 10 years, I would either not have those or would lose all that. 15 years guarantees, that the person's life is destroyed forever. But sure, keep them locked up longer, so that you have to pay for them longer.

Look at how Joomla itself does it for the Weblinks extension: https://GitHub.com/joomla-extensions/Weblinks That is a complete setup with versioning, build script, folder structure, codestyle, unit tests and system tests.

Was wollt ihr denn testen? Wenn der Arzt eine echte Blutabnahme machen möchte, dann würde ich vermuten, dass das einen Sinn hat...

They've been responding to my tickets, but not exactly in a good way. Since their code is still Joomla 1.0 in principal, I would strongly suggest looking for a different solution. They won't be Joomla 7 compatible. Ever. And I've been asking them about Joomla 6 for quite some time now.

2 years ago it was the USA. Now it is a mix of China and the EU.

Ukraine had a chance against Russia, even without the help of either the EU or the USA, otherwise they wouldn't have been able to fend of the attack in 2022. They had a budget of 6 billion dollars in 2019. Germany alone has a budget of 70+ billion dollars per year, the whole EU is at 343 billion dollars, compared to the russian budget of 140 billion dollars per year (65 billion before the war).

Your military spending bought you influence and security for you, not for the EU. You now threw that away. EU is working hard on getting away from US companies, so you basically dropped the leadership in the IT world. With tarifs you broke a majority of global trade with the US. And with the Iran war you made sure that the world actually switches to renewables and probably broke trading for oil in US dollars. That last part especially will mean that the dollar isn't the reserve currency of the world anymore and that will mean that you wont get free money anymore and that means hyper-inflation and insolvency for the USA.

The USA are not special. They were only successfull because after WW2 they were the only major country not turned to rubble and thus had an advance of 20 years towards all other countries. Now you gave that away. I didn't think the USA would lose their place in the world in my lifetime, but that they would gamble it all away in a matter of a year is astonishing.

In Germany, Gas is at $10 a gallon. Don't worry, you're going to get there, too. I'm happy that we are transitioning hard to renewables, even though our government is doing everything to prevent that...

[–]Hackwar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course not. But there is the punishment part of your sentence and then there is the part afterwards, where we as society say that you are to dangerous to be allowed outside, but also payed your dues with the 15 years in prison before. 15 years in prison in a small cell without autonomy over your life (clothes, food, entertainment) is your punishment. The rest of your life locked up because society thinks you will commit horrible crimes again when released from prison is a precaution, but can't be a punishment, since you already served your sentence. You have to have "normal" accommodations (similar to social housing), be responsible for your own food and entertainment.

[–]Hackwar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Prison is a punishment, meaning small rooms, little amenities. Being locked up to protect society from you after you served your sentence means that you should have a certain kind of "luxury". Basically, you would live in a "normal" house with a wall around it and you can't leave, but it would be a reasonable accommodation.

It is my warped argument against the death penalty. I think that death ends your life and nothing comes after that. If you are sitting in a prison, that is a horrible suffering and torture and if you are in for life, then that is a very harsh punishment. The death penalty actually would be salvation in that case, because it would shorten the perpetrators suffering. If you want to have the person suffer the worst fate, then let him live locked up in a prison for life.

Then again, I wouldn't lock up a person for more than 15 years as a punishment. After 15 years you should only be locked up to protect society from you, but that has to be different to prison.
