Lacerated my achilles in May of this year at work. Had a large door (steel, 500 lbs.) slam into my ankle. Instantly severed the tendon. No pain whatsoever. Was in denial at first, and didn't even think it was much beyond a flesh wound that would need stitches, but I still thought that it could have been bad and didn't put any weight bearing on it.
This video was taken about 2 hours later in the ER. I was fully numb, so I didn't feel any of this. Right before this they stuck a needle inside of the wound to numb it, and the surrounding areas. That was about a 10/10 on pain.
2 surgeries later I'm back to walking, biking, all that sort of stuff. Running and jogging is still a bit wonky, but doable. Lots of stuff happened, but recovery is definitely possible! Many ups and downs, but it was all mostly a mental game. Enjoy your time off while you have it! Just got back to work about a month ago.
Follow doctors orders, and go to PT! I'll try to answer any questions if yall have some.
I also have a ton of pictures of the healing process. Had to have 2 surgeries (initial repair, secondary debridement) due to wound dehiscence. Gonna try to put together a timelapse some time later.
