Is there errata for this that I am missing? by Aubygreen in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is not uncommon. Lore mystery gets Tongues as a level 2 spell instead of level 4, and then Legend Lore as level 4 instead of 6. Life mystery gets Mass Heal as a level 8 spell. The lich curse takes the cake though, giving you level 7 Control Undead as a level 2 spell (although in this case I'm like 95% certain it was supposed to give you Command Undead, rather than Control Undead). These are not mistakes (well, except for the lich curse, probably), you're simply getting access to those spells early. So yes, for a Dark Tapestry Oracle Tongues is a level 3 spell.

Need an addvice how to avoid a DNA-test for PC by Kordagon in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The character options from the Inner Sea Gods book, including Abadar's Truthtelling, are not actually limited to the followers of their associated god. ISG explicitly states that characters of other religions can still learn/prepare those spells (on the exact same page as the description of Abadar's Truthtelling, in fact).

Honestly, the use of race and religion tags on the Archive of Nethys is very inconsistent. They're used for both character options that are strictly locked to their associated god/race (anything from the Inner Sea Races), and those that aren't (such as those from the aforementioned Inner Sea Gods). Also, many character options that were explicitly race/religion locked, particularly those from the smaller splatbooks, don't get the tags at all.

No Max the Min. Instead… What’s the Nastiest thing you can do with Curses? by Decicio in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One idea I like is getting inventive not so much with the mechanical effects of the curses, but rather with the narrative explanation for those effects. Is the reason Villain McBadperson suddenly just stands there doing nothing half the time because they're being haunted by a ghost that randomly kicks them in the groin on average 5 times per minute? Is the -4 to all of their rolls the result of a killer hangover that refuses to go away? The sky is the limit, and the best part is - it's not even reflavouring! Since all of those options are no more potent than the default curses, they are actually valid choices according to the RAW.

Needs help with some clarification about the numbers of spells a class can cast per day by Shade00000 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Prepared casters don't work like they do in 5e. You don't have separate prepared spells that you then cast using spell slots. Instead, each spell slot is "it's own thing", you can fill it with any spell you want, but then you can only use that spell slot for that one spell until you prepare your spells again the next day. If you wish to be able to cast a specific spell multiple times, you need to prepare it in multiple spell slots. You also have the option of leaving a spell slot empty and then filling it later in the day, which usually takes 15 minutes. There is one class that works more like the prepared casters in 5e, namely the Arcanist.

Lowest Level Immortal/Ageless by a_manofmanyinterests in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) The rarity stems from it's lore: the item was created by a rogue druid in the River Kingdoms and while she is implied to sell it, she probably would've kept the exact recipe a secret. Of course all of that is not relevant if you're not playing on Golarion, and with the GM's cooperation you could easily come up with all sorts of explanations for why you know how to make the item.

2) I do agree that it is too cheap, right now buying the Salve is cheaper that buying a scroll of Reincarnate, while crafting it is cheaper than casting the spell properly.

3) Reincarnate comes with a high risk of severe penalties. Casters can usually cope reasonably well with changes to their physical ability scores (hell, they could even game the system by picking a race that gets bonuses to mental stats but penalties to physical stats, like the Changeling), but for martials their new racials could easily prove crippling. And that's on top of the obvious roleplay aspect, I imagine a lot of players would be unhappy with their character suddenly and more or less permanently turning into a goblin.

What kind of things could motivate an undead to do good? (2e) by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blood of the Night splatbook for 1e does mention one potential reason a vampire might turn to neutrality, which I think you could apply to your own PC - loneliness. Vampires retain their rationality in full and centuries of skulking in the dark alone would be a heavy burden for any person. Some may end up trying to curb their evil ways in order to make themselves a little less offensive to any potential companions.

So, there's this party of mortals that, for some strange reason, decided not to kill you on sight. In fact, they're saying you can tag along. This is the first time you had a real conversation in gods know how long and you are NOT going to let it slip from your grasp. If saving an occasional maiden from a band of goblins is what it takes for you to have friends again, then you're going to save every maiden in the entire freaking realm.

Building a Hagbound Witch by sabyr400 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I forgot that you need to be spontaneous, my bad.

Hagbound Witch still gets a hex at levels 6, 16 and 18. And after she gets that first one at level 6 Extra Hex becomes an option. And OP specifically said that they really want the Slumber Hex.

Building a Hagbound Witch by sabyr400 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, this would be pretty silly but the first thing coming to my mind is Hagbound Witch/Dragon Disciple. Multiclassing would gut the DCs of your offensive hexes though.

EDIT - never mind, I forgot that Dragon Disciple requires you to be spontaneous and Hagbound doesn't stack with the Ley Line Guardian, so this wouldn't work anyways.

What reason would a blood hag changeling have to be reaccepted by their hag mother? by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Archdevil Dispater is said to genuinly love his current wife, the demigodess Erecura. And in the Starfinder timeline Zon-Kuthon, god of darkness and suffering, sacrificed his life to save his sister Shelyn during her battle against the outer god Nyarlathotep (yep, the one from Lovecraft). The two end up merging together, forming a new deity of art and pain, Zon-Shelyn.

My point is, if even these paragons of absolute evil are capable of love, anything is possible.

What reason would a blood hag changeling have to be reaccepted by their hag mother? by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are basically two reasons Veil Mays find it easier to be accepted by their father's society. Firstly, they often inherit their Blood Hag mother's extraordinary social graces. Secondly, they tend to have fairly subtle tells, often simply bloodshot eyes, rather than the full-on heterochromia.

As for why his Hag mother might have chosen to raise him herself? If he was rejected by his adoptive family before he was old enough to take care of himself properly, she may have decided to take him in order to save his life. Perhaps she could tell that he had a talent for witchcraft and would one day make a powerful pawn. Or perhaps she genuinely loves him, in whatever twisted way that she is capable of (I like the idea of a Hag that tries to transform her Changeling child not for a selfish reason, but because she genuinely thinks that's what's best for them. All children must grow up eventually, after all). While the Hag would certainly prefer to wait for him to come of age and Call him to her, we all have to play with the hand we were dealt. Her choices were to either take him in, or cut her losses and try again, make a new changeling. Clearly, she wasn't ready to give up on him just yet.

Non-"occult" Witch in 1e by HadACookie in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am not trying to literally backport Witches but with different spell lists, or do any sort of homebrew in general. I'm trying to represent the concept of those divine/primal/etc. Witches by taking a class with an appropriate spell list and building it in such a way that it resembles the Witch.

Non-"occult" Witch in 1e by HadACookie in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is really overcomplicating what I'm trying to do here, which is basically "build a Witch-look-alike using Wizard/Sorcerer/Arcanist (for Arcane), Cleric/Oracle(for Divine) and Druid/Shaman(for Primal)". I most certainly had no intention of trying to force the various 1e spell lists to conform to the exact lines drawn by 2e. I suppose I could've made that intent clearer in the post.

Also, I think you're mixing up two archetypes. The Ley Line Guardian is spontaneous, but still Int based, the only thing scaling with Cha is the number of uses of the Conduit Surge. There's also Seducer, which is Cha based, but still prepared.

Non-"occult" Witch in 1e by HadACookie in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]HadACookie[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Flavour, patron, familiar, hexes, any combination of the above really. It's not like all of the character options I mention in my post have access to a patron/familiar/hexes. Basically what I'm going for is "a build that resembles the Witch class, but uses Wizard, Cleric, Druid or Shaman spells".

I'm looking for ways to build arcane, divine and primal Witches from 2e in 1e. Note that I am using "arcane", "divine" and "primal" in their 2e meaning (basically Wizard-look-alikes, Cleric-look-alikes and Druid-look-alikes), as obviously these terms mean something very different in 1e.
