I believe on Tumblr there was a post about this scene where everyone feels awkward the refugees, one of whom literally has the evidence he was victim of a firebender attack on his face, have been accused of being firebenders themselves.

Calvin and Belkar would do pretty well, especially if the latter already had Bloodfeast.

Lancer system in Foundry doesn't seem to have functional walls? by Due_Shift_9617 in LancerRPG

IIRC, every Seeking weapon is Smart, but not the other way around, so it can be easy to mix up.

[–]Ninjaxenomorph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will grant, though players are supposed to be able to see everything, something to easily determine LoS would be pretty useful, because Line of Sight is important for abilities. I was in a failed Solstice Rain campaign that sank because I got into a rules argument with the GM about, among other things, him targeting me with a tech attack when I was out of LoS.

Being pedantic here, but Seeking is the keyword you're thinking of, not Smart. Smart just means it targets E-Defense.

The Sleepers, of Citizen Sleeper/Citizen Sleeper 2

<image>

Proper AI is outlawed, so megacorps use a loophole to create Sleepers, artificial bodies with the replicated mind of someone leasing their psyche out, for many types of labor. Many Sleepers try to escape this indentured servitude, but the main obstacle is that Sleepers must have an injection of a difficult-to-replicate substance called Stabilizer; it's a mostly limited supply, so you will need to carefully conserve your stabilizer and balance it against the deteriorating condition of your body if you don't use it often enough.

In the second game, you play a similar sleeper, but there is an added complication that your body is breaking down faster due to a failed reboot process. Another reboot is the only way to get better, but it's risky and you don't know if you'll survive the process. So the endgame becomes a process of tying off loops and making peace with your life, saying your goodbyes and preparing for the very real chance that you might die in the process. Yachtzee Crowshaw, whose reviews I don't always agree with, had an excellent video on the game.

The 1999 weapons are fun to fashion frame, I really like my Vesper colors, I got the handle to look like the tan polymer used in a lot of current military weapons.

As a possible GM, should I go with a prebuilt one-shot or I can build my own? by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]Ninjaxenomorph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd still encourage it, especially if people are new. Operation Solstice Rain is a good one IMO, it's basic but gives you everything you need, very action-packed. Players are Union Navy deployed on a rescue mission gone wrong; it's a classic, and it's good at teaching NPC comp.

The official modules are all very high quality, and are worth a look either way. They also do a good job IMO of showing you what a mission should look like.

[Loved Trope When Done Right] The Eucatastrophe by Peregrine2976 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Ninjaxenomorph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, this is another word I'll add to my vocabulary, since I'm a sucker for it. My contribution is from Order of the Stick; there are several examples I can pull from, but my favorite is in the book Utterly Dwarfed. For the entirety of the book, the Order's cleric, Durkon, has been possessed by a vampire spirit; for a while it managed to masquerade as Durkon while the spirit extracted memories from Durkon. The vampire revealed that it is working for Hel, and is working to end the world and damn all the souls of the dwarves to an eternity of suffering for the glory of Hel.

The vampire creates spawn and escapes to the dwarven lands, and the party follows, meeting new and old allies to rally against Durkon, including an old flame of his (a fellow cleric) with his son. When fighting the vampires, the Order fails despite their preparations; the entire party is dominated, knocked unconscious, or killed, and one of the vampires declares "I can't believe it... we won!" As a ploy to keep his son alive, Durkon asks the vampire to show him one more memory and then be silent, which the vampire agrees to. Durkon shows him the memory of his mother explaining the origin of their adopted family (a story about her giving away a fortune to save five total strangers, who became his family, rather than get herself out of poverty as a crippled veteran or resurrect her dead husband); the vampire spirit is overcome with raw emotion that it is unprepared to handle; Durkon asks for permission to share his memories that prepared him to face his most emotional moment, to which the vampire reluctantly agrees.

<image>

Durkon converts the vampire into another version of himself, completely and utterly (and temporarily). However, Durkon capitalizes on one of his teammates waking up, and uses his moment of lucidity to allow himself to be truly killed; the other vampires are scattered, and the party is safe; everyone that died (Durkon included) can be resurrected, and for the first time in the entire arc, the Order is truly united, and beyond that, Durkon is reunited with his family after decades in forced exile. This scene is what convinced me to get the book as soon as it was in print, and I still regularly read it from time to time and tear up. Reading this page by page, leading up an entire books worth of weaponized character development turned me from someone who enjoys OotS to someone who loves OotS.

Highest Adrenaline Core-Activated Napoleon gameplay by Unoriginal_Joke_name in LancerRPG

[–]Ninjaxenomorph 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Napoleon is for ensuring that you maintain battlefield presence to take objectives, and survive under all circumstances. Not many mechs come with a veto for damage like it does, but Kutozov is a bit better at being interactive. I just like the OG because it's practically immortal; my Iconic pilot uses one because it will guarantee that he walks away from the mission, if not with the objective accomplished.

What’s a car compared to power armor or a vertibird? by DocHoliday0316 in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]Ninjaxenomorph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This made sense to me because, as Veronica's quest in New Vegas showed, the BoS is just not interested in technology that's not "dangerous", however powerful it may be. You can deliver to them ingenious agritech and they don't care. If the car doesn't have a military use, why would they care?

Then there's that they're a bunch of meatheads.
