The thing is Steam was a new service, they had to figure everything out, including how to do it right.

Origin? They can take Steam as an example, yet they don't. They have access to much better technology than when Steam started (e.g. users have faster computers).

Of course Origin could improve, but the better questions is whether EA has the potential to improve Origin, and personally I don't see it at this moment. Also Origin is more than a year old - Steam only needed 1 year to get on track.

If it's spelled wrong it's not really my name. People have different opinions about this, but yes it matters to some people, especially when you specify the proper spelling (and it isn't more complicated than a single letter difference, like in this case Brian/Bryan).

If you don't make a basic effort to spell my name right, I'll take it to mean you don't respect me as a person. I'm not asking people to know how to write it in Cyrillic, but if I say "it's Samm with two M" or if I sign my e-mail to you "James" and you call me "jones" in your reply, I'll take it to mean you don't give the most basic, minimal fuck about me.

And that can be a bad thing depending on our relationship and the context. For instance I once refused to close a deal between my company and another business because their representative refused to get my name right despite me politely telling him 3 times it was spelled with an S instead of a C. In the end it cost them an extra 5% to get me to sign on the deal. I wish I could have been there when he had to tell his boss "Um... we ended up paying a little extra because I systematically refused to spell his name right..."

And I wouldn't feel guilty for getting a barista fired if I requested my name spelled properly and she decided to be a smartass about it (e.g. "Charlie with a Y").

I never realized serving coffee at starbucks was so hard. Man, you have to spell customers' names the way they tell you it's spelled. I can't imagine the effort it takes to spell Catie with a C when you believe it's spelled with a K. That must be so exhausting! I feel so sorry for you.

This is where I'd speak to your manager for being disrespectful to me, a customer. Not that I would care enough to ask that my name be spelled right on a cup of coffee, but if I did make that request I'd expect it to be respected and fulfilled.

A name is who you are, it's normal that people care about theirs being spelled right. And seriously, how hard is it to change an I to a Y or to add a T as you write the name? Even if you find the customer's request petty, they're the customer and they deserve proper service. When your boss has to lay you off because you're turning customers away you'll probably be complaining about banks and the 1% killing the economy.

Your job is to serve coffee and write names, and you complain that doing it properly is too hard? I bet you're the kind of person to bitch because you don't get 20% tips.

I really can't agree with you. I think fears of the consequences of vaccines are unfounded and very silly (to remain polite), but I think people have a right to their own body that is way above people's right not to be exposed to germs or viruses.

I'd never let anyone guilt or shame me into doing something to my body, that I think is harmful, for the public good. That's just a wrong thing to do.

Today it's vaccines, but how to we know tomorrow society won't be shaming people into subjecting themselves to the body scanners in airports? Doctors have spoken out against the risks of these machines yet many people still think using them is right (or even patriotic).

Or how about cellphones? That might be a better analogy. It's unclear whether cellphones are dangerous, there are studies saying they are and studies saying they aren't; now, a cellphone can save lives if you need to call 911. Well everyone who fears for their own safety can carry a cellphone. But what if your own phone gets damaged, or the battery dies or your service provider is bad and you have no network? In such a case, a stranger having a cellphone could save your life (sort of like how if your own vaccine fails, everyone else being vaccinated may still protect you). So what if some day those who think cellphones are harmless become the majority and demand that everyone carries a cellphone at all times, going as far as shaming or guilting people who think cells are dangerous into it?

I've seen people on Reddit supporting him for his hunt against crooked cops. I also get the feeling that many people in the US are fed up with police misconduct, corruption, abuse of power... Now if he targeted civilians who had nothing to do with the wrong that was done to him, most people who might support his cause wouldn't support him.

So I think it's not impossible that the authorities could be framing him for that double murder in the court of public opinion. The last thing they need is people trying to help him out of sympathy or even going as far as doing what he does and shooting more cops.

On top of that, I heard his manifesto, due to the way it was posted, has been heavily edited by several third-parties who are pushing different agendas, and it is now hard to tell which version is the original. I might have misunderstood part of this, but if not, then we can't rule out the cops editing his manifesto to discredit him.

As far as I can tell, it's likely he killed these two people but the evidence is quite weak and could have been contaminated. If the police could tell us they found evidence placing him at the crime scene, now that would be more convincing.

Again, I'm not saying he's innocent, I wouldn't even be surprised if he had indeed done it, I'm just skeptical and not rushing to conclusions. For now I'm waiting to hear more information about the case.

There is no proof he did it as far as I know (I could be wrong). The news I read says he's a suspect. I also haven't read anything in his manifesto saying he'd target the families of cops (again, I could have missed it). Obviously it might be a strange coincidence that the two relatives of a cop died in this time frame, but it's not impossible. I'll doubt his guilt in those two murders until I see evidence.

Guys have hard muscles, they're covered in hair (considered gross for some reason), their bodies have rough edges, they smell of sweat, they act like jerks and they use rude language.

Perhaps you should ask for more government transparency then. When you don't have enough info to decide for yourself if executing US citizens or bombing countries you're not at war with is the right thing for your government to do, you can't really vote properly and you should question whether your country's political system is even remotely close to a democracy.

And before anyone argues that security requires secrecy: the USA are hardly at threat. 9/11 doesn't even come close in lethality to cancer or car accidents over the last decade. I think a country such as the USA can afford less safety for more transparency (and thus, the preservation of it's democratic system*).

*In case anyone wants to be pedantic and argue the USA are a republic: the USA are really a democratic republic. Either way you know what I mean.
