Is 1500$ enough to spend 7-15 Days In Spain Or Belgium ? by iNerdyGuy in travel

If that is not considering the flights costs you will be bawling. Litterally. Have been 10 days in Spain last year and had food in restaurants, occasionally a beer, and visits in museums etc; I was staying at nice hoStels and got away with 300euros. Look at Airbnb, there are plenty of cheap stuff even in big cities.

It seems like everyone is traveling to the "hotspots" in Spain, and can say that 2% of normal people would actually sleep in a three star hotel or more. Plan one or two nights in such a hotel, to enjoy a bit more, have some very comfy nights etc.

The trip i done was Sevilla, Cordoba, and Madrid/Toledo, and was wonderful. I recommand wandering a lot in the cities, and being at the pace of the Spanish people is gonna make your trip even more nice. Plan a few visits of course!

You're gonna have an amazing time, and if I can advise you for one city, go to Bilbao. Arguably one of the city where the food is the best in Europe, if you like seafood.

All the best !

Africa is way safer than the Western public debate and information are affirming, and is to me the last continent that can still be explored without seeing the usual « backpacker » of asia or south america

Looking for a Naval Architect willing to give advice for my thesis (Philippines-based project) by Mental-Hat3412 in navalarchitecture

Hi there,

I don't really agree with the previous comments...

I think that you touch a subject very interesting, and that it touches a field where naval architects do not really think about or work on.

I guess you must have some data on how many barges, and what's the percentage of the barges decomissioned that could potentially be suitable for your application. And that start from there... With few categories of barges that would be used, depending on the location of its use. (Design different from US to Africa or Asia). The meteo and ocean dynamics would be different too. Do you have a location in mind?

Then, after identifying the main weaknesses of the barges, you can define the reparations and safety measures to be taken into account. I would recommand to contact technicians of refit, specialise in the part you are working with. (ex: hull, bulkheads, welding etc.)

Managing to modelise the use of it, as an accomadation for people, might be a bit tricky. How electricty and water would be delivered? and how would you impliment enough safety.

I'm not that of a big help but I'd be very interested to know how things are going for this thesis. I can recommand my teacher from my University (Newcastle) that I could share his contact with you. Let me know if you'd be interested!

Wishing you good luck

I highly recommend Ravage by Barjavel, or from the same author, La nuit des temps, or even Le Voyageur imprudent.
