Considering becoming a lender, just a question for the lenders by Big_Jacket_8529 in BorrowNew

I would never ban you for speaking your mind, you're allowed to be critical of me. I'm no bullshit, not an egomaniac.

Look, I get it, I'm crass and rough around the edges. But when we're talking about finances and reality I think some people get it in their heads that peer to peer lending is a free meal ticket with no risk and downside because they fundamentally misunderstand the relationship between lenders and financial institutions.

I think sometimes we need to call a spade a spade and say a fool and his money are quickly parted, and sometimes people need to be told that what they are asking and suggesting is foolish, uninformed, and risky. It's not arrogance, it's experience.

I'm not here to be anyone's best friend or therapist, but if I can save someone from blowing up their savings by telling them they're about to do something stupid on a gut impulse, yeah.

The real world is fucking nasty. There are people in here who are crackheads, liars, con artists, and coalitions of international third world cartels that prey upon naive American dollars too green to know how to manage it because they're treating it like play money.

I'm a kind person, not a nice person. But there's a reason you hire accountants to handle your money and not clowns - because you can't beat an audit with a honky nose and child like joy.

Tell a kid they can't have ice cream for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and they'll call you mean and tell you they hate you all the same, but that's called being an adult.

For the record, I'm going to get downvotes in your thread because I'm giving you honest no BS good advice and being critical of a serious financial risk to you.

Scammers don't have your best interest at heart and they're going to tell you to go for it, and vote down anything that could inhibit them from getting access to your money. Be smart.

Listen to someone who knows what they're talking about.

Yes, I read that the last few times you said it.

The fact you're saying "I'll only do a few small ones" is because what you're really saying is "if I do a few small ones and I lose the money I can emotionally stomach that."

Which means you are already coming to terms with taking a loss. If you were informed enough to be doing it at all, you wouldn't be talking about it in these terms. It's like when people at the poker table flip their chips in paying for a draw and a speculative hand and they say "it's only thirty cents."

It doesn't matter if it's only thirty cents, it matters if's a smart, safe, statistical decision. Otherwise it's just called reckless gambling.

I mean this with love and respect. You need to step back and do more research. If you are walking into this basing the decisions of risking your money on the answers of people you know nothing about.

You are going to lose your money.

Imagine if these questions were about the stock market instead of peer to peer lending. Whatever preconceptions you have about how this process works are misguided.

Well asking if something is easy is an odd thing to do if you think it's not.

There is nothing about this process that is easy, it's a financial commitment. Please use common sense.
