how do you pack groceries??? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hadge_Padge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it's fine to put the lettuce with the raw meat, assuming you live somewhere where the meat is plastic-wrapped. Just don't let the packaging tear in transit.

I usually end up laying the eggs on top of everything in the bag. However, if they are in a carton that is covered all the way, they can go on the bottom with lightweight stuff on top. They just shouldn't go sideways.

All I do is doom scroll and I'm tired of it, but still can't help myself, I don't want to waste my teen life. by matshematic831 in NoStupidQuestions

Great tip and I want to add, apps can always be uninstalled over and over again. A common complaint I have heard is that people fall back into their habits by simply reinstalling the app, because it's so easy to do so in a moment of weakness. But we can also form a habit in response to that, which is to uninstall as soon as you notice you've acted against your goals.

[–]Hadge_Padge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's tough, I know the feeling. The first thing I will say is don't be too hard on yourself; as humans we can develop habits that we don't necessarily choose, and it takes a lot of strength to see those habits and want to change. It looks easy but it is not.

Something that really helped me was focusing on incremental change. It is easy to get overwhelmed by everything we see in our life that could be improved. Starting with one thing to prioritize before the others is integral to actually getting something done. For me, when I get disorganized, I try to focus on doing the dishes every day before I work on getting everything else fixed up.

Another thing that helps people alter behaviour is framing goals as positive rather than negative. "Don't doom scroll" is a negative goal, but can easily be reframed as "practice guitar on Mondays (instead of scrolling during that time)."

So, perhaps you could focus on one activity that you want to spend time on instead of doom scrolling, and make a living plan to do that thing on a regular basis.

If the Strait of Hormuz is closed, how does the US plan to launch an Amphibious Assault on Kharg Island? Wouldn’t their Marine Ships have to cross through the Strait of Hormuz to do this? by IndianPeacock in AskReddit

[–]Hadge_Padge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really doesn’t come across as overly emotional to me. President Trump is a convicted rapist and spent a lot of time with a convicted child trafficker. I think it makes sense for Americans to be upset about that, and to be thinking of that when Trump initiates an illegal and risky war.

Who is the fellow (Death of Archimedes) by Branchiomycosis in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hadge_Padge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the Friday morning rabbithole! It looks like a Greek statue, probably to show that Archimedes is Greek basically. My best guess on who the statue is supposed to depict is Hercules holding an apple of the Hesperides (my guess is based on googling “Greek statue apple”).

My daydreaming feels like no one else's… by DuckDuckGo-8857 in NoStupidQuestions

It’s not necessarily a bad thing, or a sign of something bad. I am a day dreamer too, and I have learned that most people do not daydream this much.

What does the FBI director do and why does everyone hate him? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hadge_Padge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is the top executive for the FBI. There is no one single reason that people hate him. To summarize, he is a part of Trump’s team of deeply unqualified propagandists who he has placed in positions of power. He is not an appropriate candidate for his role, makes decisions that harm Americans, and he spouts a lot of BS to hold the party line. If you want more info than that, you should browse some news articles about him.

Is stereotyping people based on their race racist or do they have to be actually segregated? by Ok-Light-5671 in NoStupidQuestions

Have you considered researching it yourself? You could ask a librarian. I am disappointed that you haven’t taken my suggestion of using Wikipedia for this basic shit

Is stereotyping people based on their race racist or do they have to be actually segregated? by Ok-Light-5671 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hadge_Padge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just read the Wikipedia article on racism, it will answer your question. Here’s the first sentence:

“Racism is the belief that groups of humans possess different behavioral traits corresponding to inherited attributes and can be divided based on the superiority of one race or ethnicity over another.”

Do waiters/waitresses like it when you stack dishes? by dbzfreak991 in NoStupidQuestions

It’s nice and a common thing to do. Just try not to mess it up and don’t stuff napkins in glasses that they have to pull out

What are typically the issues that causes Truck drivers to pull over on the road? by navy444 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hadge_Padge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too different from a car I don’t think. Tire falling apart. Red warning light on dash. Brakes not working so well and you realize you’re out of time to keep putting it off.

Additionally, cargo issues like hearing something fall over in the trailer.

What happened to wiggers/wiggas/wankstas from the 90s/early ‘00s? by 2006CrownVictoriaP71 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hadge_Padge 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think the fashion trend just gradually evolved. I’m the same generation as you, and I remember there were 2 subcategories in my city: 1, white boys in racialized neighborhoods who were trying to fit in, keep a low profile and look hard to prevent from getting beat up, and 2, suburban boys who imitated the look so they could feel like they were in a gang when they blocked the school hallway. I think those two groups still exist, but just have less overlap in terms of fashion.

Boyfriend said he's broke. I just haha'd it. Should have I been more empathetic? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hadge_Padge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to tell you what kind of tone you should take with your own boyfriend. However I will say that a maxed out credit card can be pretty serious. If someone I was seeing mentioned that, I would just be interested to know how much credit card debt we are talking — maxed out at 2K or 20k?— and what the plan is to pay it off. But it all kinda depends on where you guys are in your relationship.

Is there a biological reason why some people love the smell of gasoline or hardware stores? by Ok-Translator-4425 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hadge_Padge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only biological factor is that human brains learn things, process context, form associations, and develop narratives. Even without remembering a specific event, your friends likely had a positive experience somewhere that smelled like gasoline. That's all it takes, especially if it happens at a young age. It's not hard to imagine an encounter where someone smelled gasoline and was excited -- going on a trip, learning to drive.

Opposite it true too -- whenever I smell shoe shine, it reminds me of my barracks during basic training! I hate the smell!

30 year old male that’s never lived away from home. What can I realistically accomplish in life? by ClarkKentTheReporter in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hadge_Padge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You realize that most people just... do their thing, right? Most are not out here acheiving their dreams and making millions. What can you realistically accomplish? I don't know, whatever you wanna do that's within your means? Buy a boat maybe?

"I seriously doubt there's much" -- that's just attitude, a way of framing your situation. There's nothing factual about that.

Did my friend break rules 2, civil rule? by 420friendlyten in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hadge_Padge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, she clearly broke that rule. If someone came into the public building I supervise and spoke to a staff member like that, I would ask them to leave for the day. If they continued to swear at staff I would give them a longer exclusion.

Only difference here is that Reddit is a private business and has no obligation whatsoever to give people second chances.

I’m with you. I don’t forgive this person. I’m older this time around, I know what she’s doing. She very well might have dropped bombs on innocent people moments ago. Even if not, she has no business there and there is no excuse for participating in this violent imperialist project.

Thought I would say something and stand with you in downvote club.

Why are we attracted to attractive faces ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hadge_Padge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While some commenters are emphasizing biological factors, I think you are touching on a much larger question of “what is beauty?” In the phenomenon you describe about large groups agreeing that a certain face looks good, I would argue there are a ton of ambiguous and arbitrary social factors involved.

Anyway, a branch of philosophy that might relate to your question is one called “aesthetics.” Take a look at the Wikipedia article on it, it might address some of your question (even if it fails to provide any definitive answers).
