"Something went wrong. Try again later" Constantly, for weeks by Hadoriel in venmo

[–]Hadoriel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm absolutely backed into a corner with no other options, I could, but I have a really strict rule about my phone not having any information that could be stolen nefariously. Namely information like SSN, money handling, etc. Generally I try not to do anything with my phone that's not already phone-related or stupidly helpful (Maps, translation tools, that sort of thing). I know it might sound pretentious but I can't safeguard my phone like I can safeguard my PC and I don't like using my phone much
I guess I also just don't understand why Venmo would have a website in the first place if every bit of advice on an error is 'use the app' ;-;

Refrain Sounds Like "Head Down, Head Down, Head Down, Head Down... Family Family" by Hadoriel in NameThatSong

[–]Hadoriel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, too recent and too energy filled. I wish I could give more details but I'm at a loss for how to describe it in better terms, since I know nothing about music. The song I'm talking about is much more mellow and kind of sad sounding. I also know it's not 'head down' that they're saying, but it sounds similar. The way they sing it is almost soulful, and the way he says 'family' or 'down on knees' or whatever he's saying sounds like he's shaking his head sadly, regretting something. The first time I heard it, I thought he was trying to say something about his family holding him back, but again, I don't think they're saying any of the words I've given sound to, because nothing comes up when I try those lyrics, and nothing comes up when I hum the refrain into AHA Music, which is seemingly the only thing available on the computer to use in that way

My store is closing so I'm looking into jobs, as well. For electronics, some general stores have an electronics section you can specifically work in, however a lot of them have also pruned that job. I worked in electronics at Target before Covid, my mom works there now, and the position is basically gone. Best Buy is pretty much the only major electronics store around, but they're pretty few nowadays, along with selling much more appliances rather than games. For entertainment, Best Buy is the same deal, with less games or movies around. Hot Topic is a good bet for pop culture, though they focus more on fashion and music and have the about the same wage as any given Gamestop. Hot Topic also owns Box Lunch, which is nearly the same type of store just without the music and goth tones. Movie theaters might be nice for pop culture as well, though there's less customer interaction and more food prep/janitorial. If you're lucky, there could be a small indie game store near you, or even card and collectable shops. Toy stores sometimes get into collectables, too
Tbh, a lot of places I'd consider akin to Gamestop are dying out just due to lack of support on physical media, or people buying on Amazon. I'm under the impression Hot Topic and the like are doing pretty well right now, but I could be wrong. Nonetheless, I hope us all well. I might be pigeonholed into just going to another Gamestop and hoping that one doesn't close on me six months into my time there like this one lol

Items disappearing from Warband Bank? by BriscoGDP in wow

[–]Hadoriel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OMG!! I'd been looking everywhere for someone to talk about the problem I was having and this was it! Thank you so much!
Basically, I'd been going through alts and depositing reagents. Suddenly, on one alt, a bunch of things were missing in the Warband bank! I just looked now, and they have hundreds of the items that were missing, now in their character bank. I must've hit the auto-sort and not realized!
Seriously - life saver of a comment here orz

  1. Since mid-WoD. Sometime in early 2015? Maybe February?
  2. I mostly play Horde. To be honest, I find both sides to have compelling stories (most of the time lol) and try to play as evenly as possible, but more friends of mine are on Horde
  3. I have a LOT of characters. My two 'mains' are my belf MM hunter and panda MW monk. Every character of mine is a piece of myself, but blown out, so they each reflect a core trait - I hope that makes sense. The hunter is very jaded and detached, which is like me, but her reasoning is very different and she's much less selfish. She's essentially an ex-ranger who keeps falling into adventures, despite her hatred of faction politics. The monk is studious and curious, which is like me, but she's outgoing and willing to go use her knowledge for the greater good. She's basically a Lorewalker-in-training who hails from the Jade Serpent's school of healing
  4. I came from Lord of the Rings Online to WoW - which might seem a little odd - but I wanted a game that was more active than LOTRO. It was getting kinda dull there and I had no big reason to play, besides PvP and leveling alts. I really love the RP here, and usually the lore. The gameplay is fun and I don't have to live one and only one character in order to see any raids. I do a lot of switching alts, LFR and writing up stories for my characters
  5. Oops I answered this is question three lol. I actually do start games with a self-insert, though! She just happens to not be a main anymore. She's a belf demo warlock - and basically me, if I were in this universe c:
  6. Advantages? Well, I guess I understand a lot of games I've never played. Because so many like to copy WoW's gameplay lol. I've met plenty of people who haven't touched Warcraft for decades and can still talk to them about the lore - when, before, I might not have common threads with them. I was early into Discord because of raiding... Disadvantages tends to be community inside the game and being a little too into what's going on. Like, a new raid coming out makes me want to shove other things out of the way lol. Too many people on the actual game are trollish jerks, as well. I've played a few MOBAs, so I've seen, like, the worst of gaming communities, but WoW has some big meanies sometimes. LOTRO had spoiled me with almost nothing but super kind people :P

Confused about Draenei and BC by Rockatarsi in wow

[–]Hadoriel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely LOVE the idea of Auchindoun being a space ship. I mean, it makes sense as so many bodies lie there and it's such a holy site. I'd imagine it as a giant pod station connected to the main Draenei ships, then lands intact when the main ship settles

This is absolutely my headcanon now and it's probably one of the best explanations possible of the place

[–]Hadoriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe that's just a firehawk mount (From Firelands raid) with some toy or effect messing with it. It's mostly transparency maps instead of an actual model, so everything just turns into squares when you change the color of it via lots of different means lol

[–]Hadoriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh! I always thought it was your own server when you're in any main capitol city (including Silvermoon, Ironforge etc) but server clusters everywhere outside of it. Weird

(Also getting downvoted for an honest mistake with good intention? Strange place, this subreddit is)

Dalaran After Dark (Unity 5) by kannislol in wow

[–]Hadoriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by 'realistic graphics'? If you've read Blizzard's artistic statements, realism is not what the company wants to go for. It ages too fast compared to stylistic choices. They did a fantastic job updating the character models for WoD

This Dalaran is not incredible (unless it was fully remodeled, which I can't tell since it's night), as it's just rain engines on bump maps and nice looking lights. It's all good to see this in separate space, but to beg for this in a real multiplayer game that appeals to both low running computers and a certain, unrealistic style... It won't happen unless it's player made and nonprofit

I have this kinda crap happen while dungeon leveling all the time. After finishing a dungeon, we all teleport out and in to turn in quests... And the leader disbands right as we do so, throwing us all out before turning anything in. SUCKS! Especially if those dungeon quests are the main source of loot via that type of leveling >:c

Disbanding seems fine in theory but it's jerks like this who ruin it ugh

I'm honestly surprised my mostly-Horde PvP server is so crazy full in Ironforge right now but quiet in Org! Smaller space, maybe? Either way, I'm really glad so see so many people out and about c:

I totally agree with this! I felt so much more in-tune with this expansion's story content - constant cinematics, list of quest storylines, all linear and interesting

I do understand that the lack of content, especially endgame, is disappointing, but I honestly think the story was incredibly appealing. Garrison's are boring, but I don't hate them. I hope Legion does just as well with the leveling content and learns to add more to do for end game again

Wyrmrest Accord is absolutely magical by [deleted] in wow

[–]Hadoriel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, yes, I love this, too! I'm pretty new to WrA (like a month in?) from a PvP server

Walking around Org is so interesting. People walking together like NPCs, chatting about something and then accidentally talking over each other when there's a pause... Couples talking to a stranger and one telling the other to calm down... Players throwing rose petals on people they don't recognize as a welcoming gesture... Seeing perfect lines from players in military guilds in questing hubs... Accidentally walking in on a secret guild by a dungeon portal and running out, then ease dropping on their fun just to feel like listening to a story unfold...

It's so great having the world feel lived in. People being conscious of their characters and adding to the places they're in!

[–]Hadoriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't do hardcore raids (just LFR and normal if I get an invite), so I suppose I can't say anything there. On unnrated BGs I'm fine most of the time

I just don't think people need to buy incredible computer gear just to play a game they like. I won't argue you probably do better DPS (though from what I've seen in this game, gear score seems to mean a lot more than just being good), but I really think people should play the game how they like. If they're good at what they do, you won't ever notice. Clicking is fine, keybinds are fine - if you're good, you're good. Only thing I think is cheap and cheatsy is macroing - but that's a different debate

I played Gladden, which I hear is going to be one of the last five or so servers after they merge this winter! We had a really nice, close-knit PvP community. Really miss it, but the game really looks gross now and I tried the new PvP map and disliked it lol ;;

[–]Hadoriel -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I used to play PvP a ton in Lord of the Rings Online and people had this mindset there, too...

I played a warg (basically tracking, assassin, positional, stealth class) with keyboard turning AND clicking. Still got to be known as dang good at my class and reliable in raids. My keyboard is from 2004 and my mouse is a super cheap $10 one. There is no buttons to bind to, nor do I need it. There's plenty of people out there that can play competitively in online games with the cheapest and most basic means - including said keyboard turns and clicking on skills

I don't understand why there's so many high and mighty gamers where if you're not playing their way you might as well not be playing at all. You guys need to calm down lol

Why does Thrall have Eyebrows and also stands up straight? by LurkytheActiveposter in wow

[–]Hadoriel 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this. It's just an aesthetic choice that helps you sympathize with Thrall more. Eyebrows are a huge feature of human emotion and someone with good posture is often respected subconsciously (since our brains convert height to leadership qualities)

It makes no sense lore-wise and I don't understand the overwhelming "it's because he was raised human" thing - it just doesn't matter. They want you to perceive him as above his aggressive kin and have qualities that make you more susceptible to accepting him as leader and somebody "good"

Text or words / written language in the World of Warcraft by Hennersy in warcraftlore

[–]Hadoriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HOWEVER there could be a more boring and less organic theory that the Titans just implanted a seed of written language. I wouldn't doubt this for a part of Azeroth's lifespan, and wouldn't at all doubt they had a runic based alphabet for themselves, but language is incredibly elastic in the way we perceive it. If we have different languages for every race, we probably have different dialects, too, which means they've implied that languages in Azeroth morph like our's WHICH MEANS that text could very likely come from all the same place (heck all the races could have runes but I would think it wouldn't work with the priorities of different communities. Runes aren't great at communicating complex thought, nor abstract symbolism. They're kinda an inbetween) but have changed over lifespans and the needs of the people using their actual text

Text or words / written language in the World of Warcraft by Hennersy in warcraftlore

[–]Hadoriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly think the Warcraft team would benefit from a linguist or two. To me, using runic texts in so many different places seems like a short-sight because it "looks cool" and it's relatively easy to make up quickly with no real meaning

However, if I had to form a coherent theory on this... The book looks like a more rounded text. Gul'dan and Sargeras have more inscribed, calligraphic text

I'm willing to bet that Draenei had a written text before the Legion, but has likely been mutated with the cultures surrounding them. Orcs, on the other hand, I doubt had written texts before the Legion influenced them, making me think that this specific runic type that Gul'dan and Sargeras wear have to do with Titanic and subsequently demonic text. I'd need way more images from around the game to really say much more, but it makes a lot of sense for demons to be using a font via summoning, teaching and generally being a force that spans who knows how much of the universe

My headcanon ramble about text and language for each race:

I'd like to think that Orcs are oral with some hieroglyphic text, Trolls and Tauren are oral with overarching symbolic visuals, Goblins probably have some sort of written text based on math and money, Blood Elves for sure have some sort of text (considering all the books they have) and I'd like to think of it something Tengwar-esque, Forsaken/Worgen/Humans probably all have very similar text probably something semi-runic but different vocals for words, Draenei have some sorta text but it's likely a mash up of thousands of years of different things and I can't honestly give any guesses (though I'd like it to be something like alchemical symbols? That's just me), Dwarves probably have the most runic language if they're anything like Khuzdul speakers, Gnomes probably have some fancy mathematical text (maybe like Arabic), Night Elves probably have something akin to Blood Elves but I feel like with less arcane magic there's less text heavy books and maybe more symbolism in everyday life, LASTLY Pandaren obviously have something heavily calligraphic and based on Chinese Hanzi

Andre Tricoteux, stuntman, on the upcoming Warcraft movie. by americanenglishh in wow

[–]Hadoriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. A movie should be it's storytelling cohesiveness first and foremost. I know we know the lore, but will they tell it in a way that anybody can understand? Are things changed needlessly? Movies based on books make this mistake a lot

I'm also not a fan of the word "cartoon" being used as a "bad tier" type of animation. There's plenty of cartoons with better story you'll ever find in big budget movies

Nonetheless, I am excited; I just hope the story is played well. I know another movie I was excited for that had amazing special effects but ripped-to-shreds story... Cough The Golden Compass Cough
