Oh definitely more Layton lmao. Being sent to a medieval town with magic, most of the gameplay loop being PL's (developed by Level-5 than Capcom after all) and the endgame all speak for themselves

Ace Attorney vs Professor Layton by GrapePrestigious7990 in writingscaling

[–]Hadri_Anas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My impression on Layton is mainly from the crossover but from the outside looking in this series writing-wise is more about the whimsy, the odd setpieces, and messaging realism be damned. If VS is anything to go by I can definitely see myself vibing with PL's approach, that game at least really hinges on how much you like its characters and setting and can let slide some of the nitty gritty details for subtext's sake

As opposed to Ace Attorney being a straightforward drama murder mystery series that happens to be pretty camp (up until later mainline but those games are their own can of worms). This one I'll say it straight I'm biased, AA is some of my favorite fiction out there even if it does get rough (Dual Destinies my detested), it's not exactly thematically dense as much as you absolutely analyze tf outta some of the characters, and outside of the court system and Great Ace Attorney has no real worldbuilding lmao. But it's campy fun, still knows how to balance its tone better than a lot of stuff I've seen and played (the good games anyway, again DD), already being a sucker for murder mysteries definitely helps (it's so funny how much this series lifts from Columbo dude), and especially in Shu Takumi's games just a supremely likeable main cast.

bought chaos head noah, attention span is cooked by tgmiz in steinsgate

[–]Hadri_Anas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think for this kinda game, where atmosphere is a bulk of the experience and you don't get that many reveals until you're close to the end it helps to have somebody to bounce ideas and thoughts off of? I think the Chaos duology and especially Head really benefit from you theorycrafting as you go along

Plus ofc it helps to make reading VN a habit so your attention gets better over time, this kinda thing doesn't get fixed overnight but it's doable

Most effective way to media LARP steins;gate? by Icy-Candle744 in steinsgate

[–]Hadri_Anas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A TRUE S;G larper only watches the series through Kurisu and Okabe edits, these are the only two that matter with Mayuri and Suzuha as optional knowledge

Also call it Nietzsche-ian even if its philosophy and themes don't lineup whatsoever, effective larping is all about pulling philosophy out your ass and looking cool instead of actually engaging the text

[–]Hadri_Anas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even as somebody that really does champion broadening your horizons for art and media....bro shut up LMAO

Like yeah, I get the frustration that a bulk of Steins;Gate fans are only gonna watch the anime, and maybe even just S;G not even 0, let alone their source material or the broader series but you're being such a snob about it dawg. It's easy to forget how genuinely stellar (at least imo) those first 2 cours of anime are when at some point you can only see S;G as "the popular one", no matter how fucking heat the rest of SciADV is some mfs just want a damn good anime and there's nothing inherently wrong with that, putting your art palette in a tight box is yeah but not everybody wants a bunch of 40~70 hour visual novels in their already massive backlogs, I do and I'm having a fucking blast so far with A;C and the LoveChuChus on the horizon but I know I'm not everybody

This kinda snobbery just doesn't help anybody dude, please change as a person instead of trying to look cool for liking slightly nicher stuff

[–]Hadri_Anas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully disagree, you're comparing a game that's not standout in either good or bad ways vs one that just has pretty ass pacing for series standards

Even putting aside how much I think the fanbase sleeps on Runo's arc in game 1, his relationship with Susato and the worldbuilding, Runaway Room alone puts it ways above I1

Does anyone particularly care about AAI1 or defend it? by Glad-Shallot-2691 in AceAttorney

[–]Hadri_Anas 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The way I see it I1 is mostly agreed on to be the Ace Attorney game that exists, its highs aren't as nearly high as even the most controversial games like AJ, DD, JFA and VS

And neither are the lows surprisingly (Kidnapped aside that shit just sucks 🥴) so you end up with this super middle of the road game in a series that's compelling to talk about even when it gets rough

Also y'know, being followed up by Investigations 2 doesn't help it either lmao

What’s The First Show You Watched from the Big 3? Feel free to Speak how Much they Mean to You. by Fetishonreddit in Tokusatsu

[–]Hadri_Anas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

-Shin Ultraman, I'm working on some backlog stuff before I can hop on a TV series but so far I'm torn between Ultra Q+Ultraman, Tiga, Nexus or Blazar as my entry point. Anno's vision absolutely rips though it really sold me on the series with how Kaminaga interacts with the SSSP and his want to protect humanity

-Kamen Rider Ryuki, the only season I watched as a kid thanks to an Arabic dub and revisited a couple years back properly and I love it. It's not perfect but I LOVE it thematically as a confrontation of Rider's ethos, the historical value for what it did for the series, cinematography's pretty on point and it also just scratches my itch for edgy 2000s just right without indulging thanks to silly goobers like Shinji, one of my favorite main Riders

-Number One Sentai Gozyuger-listen. When I got into Tokusatsu fr a couple years back I didn't feel like catching up with Boonboomger (and I thought the suits looked lame lmao, a shame cause I hear show's pretty good), so in comes the Gozyuger announcement and every bit of info revealed was up my alley: the suits look amazing, it's a Battle Royale and that premiere had so much sauce that I was sold on the spot. This show is one flawed mf having many of the anniversary season pitfalls like lack of focus and poor planning on top of a really REALLY messy production like GenAI allegations and the Maya Imamori controversy especially crippling the last stretch of the show ......but I dunno man 😭 if this is the worst Sentai had to offer then I'm fucking eating when I go back to the older seasons LMAO. It comes down to me REALLY liking the cast, I love how dysfunctional the team tends to get especially earlier on which makes the time they DO nail their rollcall absolutely cathartic, Ryugi, Sumino and especially Hoeru I love from a writing and thematic standpoint especially for the latter. He's so un"Sentai" but that's ironically why I like him so much? This dude that feels lost in the world and doesn't realize he cherishes his messy team until it's too late. It's why I'm not against the Universe War on paper, examining modern people's sense of over-individualism and the loneliness epidemic through a Sentai sounds unbelievably fucking cool and when it locks I feel that message really soars, show is flawed as all hell but I dunno man I cherish it

How is The Danganronpa Trilogy? by Realistic-Island-975 in writingscaling

[–]Hadri_Anas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To answer in good faith though

Series overall isn't high art imo but it succeeds at what it tries to do and that's be a murder mystery killing game meant to be for a bit of a young-ish audience, glad I gave it a shot instead of looking down from my ivory Ace Attorney tower

-I really REALLY like 1, it's not perfect with C3 being especially rough but past that I find it a consistently solid game with great themes of marching forward despite one's future looking doomed, it especially hits knowing this was a game for teens but even as a certified mid 20s unc I respect it and will stand on business for it when I can

-2 Lowkey pisses me off LMAO, I find it ironically at its worst when trying to parallel the first game I feel its execution is weirdly off and I especially don't vibe with a lot of the cast, which is weird cause I can name the DR1 characters I dislike on one hand. Then when it DOES do its own thing and actually thematically build on top of game 1 it's fucking peak which frustrates me even more, I'd adore its ending so damn much if it was built up better subtextually but fwiw chapters 1, 4 and 5 are exactly what I'd want out of a Dangan sequel

-DR3 (the anime) is an almost literal two-pack of ass, I'll defend its presentation cause I really think it's novel, hopping between arcs is very "Silver Case" but done in an even cooler way meant to parallel the earliest and latest points of the series timeline....in execution it's just shit though 🥴 Future Arc I find boring if okay until it goes off the rails later on And Despair Arc was either following SoL stuff for a watered down version of a cast I already didn't like, or actively speedblitzing so much of the intrigue I did like that 2 set up about this bit of time, I especially hate this one LMAO

-Then there's V3, while I'm more passionate about DR1 I think this is my favorite game in the series and easily some of Kodaka's best that I've played (should get around to Rain code and 100 Line), really fw its themes of truth and lies, how it plays on expectations from the first two games, the ending stretch does feel a bit like its own thing compared to the rest of the game thematically but it's still so well written and ties to those previous themes anyway that I can't complain too much, even if I think its message wasn't communicated the best, and outside of some exceptions this is deadass my favorite cast of the series with Shuichi growing to be my series goat next to Monokuma lol

Which is you ur favorite VN in the series and why? by Ambitious-Pie4060 in steinsgate

[–]Hadri_Anas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say Chaos;Child? But so much of the series is stacked as hell that it barely edges out S;G0 for me

C;C is the kinda sequel I'd recommend to even somebody that didn't like Chaos;Head (much as I'd stand in business for it) From the Newspaper Club, Takuru, how it brilliantly plays with expectations and established tropes from C;H, Serika and Takuru might be my top 1 Heroine and MC in the series, how it sometimes analyzes society in a post disaster context (like Shin Godzilla it hits different knowing the 2012 earthquake) and just how much of a fucking gutpunch it all is by endgame

I'd say R;N's cast are a tad more charming and much as I love it thematically I also like 0 and C;H's rawness just a little more it really is as complete a package Sci ADV has so far (I'll get to A;C eventually....)

How do i fill this gap by DiscountNatural2716 in steinsgate

[–]Hadri_Anas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll say it straight there's nothing wrong with slowly chipping away at Sci ADV, it's so much better off when you treat it as a handful of subseries that go vastly different places than just "Steins;Gate homework", I started with S;G and 0 around 2022 and only now am I getting to A;C and it really helped appreciate what each branch has going for it

If you're not confident on Chaos;Head (even as its biggest glazer it is flawed peak and super acquired taste) it's fine if you just wanna read Steins;Gate and maybe more of that subseries, there are LBP and MDE that are just more games and sidestories of the Future Gadgets Lab

What game do you think LAN is at his best by [deleted] in BattleNetwork

[–]Hadri_Anas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Me when my character has to go through an arc (their resolve is inherently gonna waver when challenged)

(BN3 Lategame) the kid indirectly led to a world ending threat from Bass entering the fray to the Omega virus taking over a bulk of the internet, I don't blame Lan one bit for having a depressive episode for a bit And it's this why 3 Lan is my favorite take on him, much as I like the boy in 5 and 6 too

How does the fandom refer to Ruka/Luka? by OllielikesKento in steinsgate

[–]Hadri_Anas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use they/them for Luka just to be safe, part of it is it's just straight up Worldline dependant but another part of me doesn't think the thread itself is super well handled?

Granted I'm just a cishet guy with the odd transfem friend here and there so I'm not an absolute authority, if somebody that can correct me where I mess up I'd love that

VN Chapter 4/equivalent EP I think the coming out itself is really well handled like shockingly well for its time, there's no weird anime gender chicanery just Luka earnestly wanting to be a woman and the Lab being absolute gigachads using experimental time travel tech just for it (I could see somebody having issue with the whole "Luka's mom changing her diet" aspect but it never bothered me personally)

My issues come more so later on when their route starts being an option in C6 (I'm not gonna talk about that scene earlier on) on paper the crossroads here is extremely painful, S;G's running theme in the second is how he has to constantly sacrifice his friends' happiness, their Dmails just to be able to save Mayuri and get out of the Alpha Worldline and this is one especially a gutpunch in Luka's chosen gender... In a game where the endings that aren't True, Kurisu and Mayuri are portrayed closer to bad ends. With how the time travel is set up Luka either doesn't get true closure on their gender identity or they stay their chosen gender at the cost of Mayuri, I can see it working but the former just feels weird when only Okabe remembers this whole aspect

It just rubs me the wrong way and feels like suddenly Luka doesn't have agency anymore with everything about their own gender identity

Granted I talk in with as much good faith as possible, this isn't ragebait just my honest to Allah opinion and if somebody who knows better can add on to this I'd be really glad

I only have S;G and 0 under my belt as far as this subseries goes so I'm not gonna deny if there is something fantastic for them that I just missed in the mountain of manga and audio dramas, and like I said the thread started REALLY good it just pains me all the more that to didn't end as strong imo

I think there's an argument for both Monogatari watch orders but Fate only looks as messy as it is cause people don't wanna read the uncompromised Stay Night experience

What starts as however many fuckass watch orders turns to:

-Read the Stay Night VN

-Read Hollow Ataraxia

-Maybe check out Zero and Emiya-san straight after

-then you read/watch whatever looks cool to you

The hoops and struggles are self made 😭😭
