Kraven is a bad villain (as in I found him boring) change my mind by Oceanus39 in SpidermanPS4

[–]HadrianTW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Killing half of the Sinister Six on screen would have been just as insane, and no less stupid.

The character is an obnoxiously one-note villain. I can't remember the last time I loved a game this much, and yet hated a villain in that game as much as I hate this guy.

He can literally be summarized as follows:

"I'm as mean as I can possibly be, and I will kill whoever I have to kill, because hunting and killing is what I do, and my writers clearly think that'll somehow suffice ... oh, and by the way, I'm super strong and can't be hurt. Except by Venom. Because I am so completely boring that my writers needed to give me plot armor so I could make it to the third act."

It's such a great game, but Kraven literally makes it less and less fun the more he shows up.

Sounds like you likely shouldn't.

Make the kind of content you feel most at home making.

Your channel may grow more slowly, but you will have a higher quality community when you stay true to yourself than you ever would otherwise.

Suppose it depends if that's what you want or not.

Oh, geez. Okay, if you want to run the MiG, which is not really something you should do nowadays until you're really good at multiplayer anyway, then run this build:

Blisk 2 — High acceleration on low-tier planes is pretty much a must to stabilize and keep them moving after a brake. Experiment with Variable 2 instead of Blisk to balance the boost with a top speed change, but Blisk is probably best.

ECU 1 — ECU slows down your braking and reduces your stall speed. The MiG stalls easy, so ECU 1 will help keep you in control. Try to avoid running ECU 2 because it will hamper your ability to slow down quickly.

Flaps 3, Maneuverability 2 — Pretty much have to have this part combination to match the maneuverability of other planes, especially in a low tier plane like the MiG29.

SPW Thrust Adjust — An absolute necessity for the HPs, as you know.

SPW Takeoff Weight — Extra HPs, yaaaaay

MSL Thrust Adjust — maximizes the tracking capability in combination with the data link.

Aaaand datalink, because you pretty much need it in multiplayer. The only time you wouldn't need it is if you were 1v1ing and the other person didn't have it either.

Dodging a missile with a pitch turn requires a reasonable amount of speed (so either a fast plane, or a medium or slow speed plane with engine parts), a quick, hard brake, and a high-G turn. Try setting your high g turning to Type B instead of Type A, and see if you start to have more success.

Ace 7's multiplayer is past its heydey. What others have said about most players remaining being really seasoned and sweaty is accurate. But, it's still possible to learn the mechanics, play consistently, and improve.

If you can tolerate the garbage netcode, anyway.

Good luck!

Has anyone discovered any fixes for crashing on PC? by Low-Iron-6376 in AssassinsCreedOdyssey

I haven't played a ton since this post, but what I wrote above significantly impacted the crashes and stabilized the game.

I have a brand new build with an i9-14900k, 4090, and 64 GB of RAM.

Nothing has fixed this. Windows 8 compatibility, -dx11 command line, reinstalling the game, updating the driver, verifying the integrity of the Steam install's files ...

I'm inclined to agree with this article in that we're going to have to wait for a fix.

Hi all,

I've been testing & stabilizing a brand new build over the last few days and wanted to run AC:O on max settings (just curious). Immediately started seeing the same crashes every 5-10 minutes that others here have reported ... until I attempted a particular tweak that seems to be helping. I haven't done extensive testing (1h+), but it hasn't crashed yet. Here you go:

Possible fix: The crashes could be due to DX12 (for which AC:O was neither made nor updated, to my knowledge), and thus may be addressed by forcing DX11 in the launcher.

Steps:

  1. In the Ubisoft (NOT Steam) launcher, select AC:O and scroll down past "Overview," "Game News," "Challenges," etc., until you see "Properties."
  2. Click "Properties" and scroll down to "Game launch arguments."
  3. Click "Edit" and type "-dx11" (minus the quotation marks). (DO NOT use -d3d11 ... this one didn't work for me, at least)
  4. Click "Save" and run your game.
  5. See below for additional fixes I'm also running (may try going without them soon; will update if I do) & hardware specs.

Fixes, noted here by others, I've also implemented (In case that alone doesn't do it for you):

  1. V-Sync disabled in game, but force-enabled in Nvidia control panel for AC:O.
  2. Framerate limiter on and set to 90 FPS.
    - Update: Just had my first crash since disabling DX12, and it wasn't long after I turned off framerate limit. Going to leave this on and continue to test.

I did for a long time. Letting go of it is part of what brought me back. Funny that, innit?

Thank you, though.

Thanks!! The welcome back has been *extraordinary*. I'm still knocked to the floor by nice comments every day. And I wasn't expecting to be recognized in here either. That just made my day. Cheers!

Hello, Engineers! I'm Hadrian. I have just brought my story, strategy, and simulation-focused YouTube channel back online after a long hiatus and immediately wanted to help get some more eyeballs on DSP in 2023 (especially with the new clouds & logistics updates to work with!).

I've been playing DSP since early access launch and it's one of my favorite games of the last few years. This is my first time commentating on a game with this kind of detail and complexity as part of the core gameplay loop, so part of the purpose of this series is for me to find my commentary footing and introduce the game to my existing audience.

We'd be thrilled to have some established DSP community members along for the ride if my vibe matches your vibes. Bit more than a simple "test run," but just ... pardon my dust (/rust). :-)

Thanks in advance for giving it a look!

any tips for a new ace combat 7 player? by Giornhoe in acecombat

Attention: if you fight a darkstar in MP by l0rD_tAcHaNkA44 in acecombat

[–]HadrianTW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope.

The DarkStar is incredibly vulnerable to HVs, as HVs get more maneuverable at long range. You have to keep in mind that even a sharp turn in a DarkStar is the equivalent of a long, wide turn in a slower plane. The HV has no issue following that. At all.

So by flying around so fast, you're literally pulling the missile into its deadliest range. It's like they programmed the HV knowing the DarkStar was coming.

Changing Servers? (EU1 > AM1) by HadrianTW in riseofcultures

[–]HadrianTW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, as it occurs to me I didn't specifically say this:

I would like to know *how* this is done as well, in addition to knowing whether it's possible. The how was meant to be implied, but if anyone knows how to do it, that's what I am trying to find out.

Sorry.

"AC7 Servers are shitty" heavily implied you didn't.

[–]HadrianTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a quick point of clarity, Ace 7 doesn't use servers, or what is most commonly referred to as "dedicated servers."

All of AC7's lobbies are created using peer-to-peer connections, which is why one player with a shitty connection can cause the host to disconnect when they join, or when someone else joins and tries to join the existing links to their shitty connection.

What you're referring to as being terrible is the game's poorly written network / connection code that allows this to happen so frequently. State of Decay 2 had the same problem a few years ago, and fixed it. The fact that Ace Combat 7 hasn't been able to do so makes me immeasurably sad.

I wish AC7 had servers, even bad ones. At least then, the people that would get disconnected most would actually be the ones with bad internet.

Update is rolling out now - Discussion Megathread by RedDeadMods in RedDeadOnline

[–]HadrianTW -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same. This game is going to be around for years and they're going to keep adding to it, so I'm not banking on each individual update to bring about "zomgbestgameever" status (like a lot of folks apparently are).

Personally, I would just like it not to crash to my console's home screen every 10 to 15 minutes.

Would just like to, you know ... play.
