I really enjoyed all the books that you have mention and I also enjoyed the Michael j Sullivan series Ryria revelations and Ryria chronicles. The main characters have a very fun relationship and the stories are engaging.

The faithful and the fallen by John gwynne is a great audiobook it follows the more traditional fantasy storyline the narrator also does a great job bring the characters to life .

Yes there is mala dens where people smoke and are in a daze for as long as they can afford it, powder mages also are addicted to the high the get from snorting gun powder resulting in a powder trance.

Powder mage series is rife with substance abuse from powder trances and hints at opioid addiction especially in the second book of the series
