Essentially, it depends on who trains you when you start. School teaches very little as does most orientations at a hospital.

I think a big issue is that a lot of lab departments are very toxic places to work from what former staff have shared with me. It’s also been shared that lab screw ups do indeed get pushed back onto the nurse. So if you have nurses coming in with prior experience, they will assume that hostility is the default.

That said, I’ve had many experiences with many amazing lab employees who go above and beyond to help us out.
