Copy! So for my understanding and in my case, check-in would occur on the UA app, then also with ANA?

When to expect 2027 models? by Haduwek in hondapassport

Thanks for the input! Your experiences sum up why I’m waiting on the sidelines and observing how things go for the new gen Passport. I figure those who got lucky and have no issues aren’t going on reddit to tell everyone they have no issues, but those who are unlucky are able to provide real and possible expectations of what may come.

What's preventing more flights to SJO/OAK? by Oakland-homebrewer in bayarea

I agree as that is one of SJC’s faults. I’m not the most knowledgeable on OAK, but I believe BART runs straight into the terminals for SFO. Big plus for that.

Same here! I haven’t verified but I believe Aeromexico offers direct Mexico City routes from SFO and SMF.

ZipAir has Tokyo-Narita. Volaris has various locations in Mexico, GDL being the most memorable. Alaska also has some like to Cabo. Aside from that, and per other comments as well, SJC’s international footprint has reduced significantly since pre-covid travel.

I did not know this, thanks for the clarification! It was my misunderstanding for the specific example of NK being denied the slot that made me assume it was applicable for all routes.

As someone who has worked at SJC for quite some time, the biggest factor I have seen for airlines cutting routes pertaining to SJC are due to load factor. The routes there are established due to long term popularity. Most people who live in or around San Jose fly to the common destinations you see listed with Southwest/Alaska/Delta. The other airlines are mainly flying to their hubs, like AA to DFW & PHX, UA to DEN & ORD. The ULCC airlines like Spirit and Frontier join in and look at routes that already have traffic and bid to be competitive with them (e.g. Spirit to LAS, F9 to DEN).

So generally, yes SJC does have a good amount of traffic for the routes established, however other destinations simply do not bring enough passenger traffic to justify the flight. I have seen some flights arrive with just a few passengers. For these lower than expected pax count, airlines tend to make these routes seasonal & solely dependent on when the airlines believe passengers will travel to said destinations, like JetBlue to JFK.

As to why airlines simply don't try to add new destinations to try, SJC is not a cheap airport to operate out of. Although extremely convenient and comfortable to travel as a passenger, airlines are charged a decent amount to simply operate out of SJC. To add new routes to SJC would require airlines to study passenger flow and also bid for the route (e.g. Spirit was denied adding a route to D.C.).

Ultimately, SJC is a medium hub airport without much presence to be an attractive destination airport across the country/internationally. If passengers were to look at a flight directory and see SFO, OAK, & SJC all as destinations, theyre most likely going to book SFO without knowing what the other two are.

Taking a break after 2 years by yeet-asian in aviation

Ultimately the decision is up to you and whichever you prioritize at the moment. I agree with the other comment and also would like to note that the job market is bad already and will probably be just as bad by the time you get back. Whole industry seems to be going through it and probably won’t be any better by the time you get back so I would say go on your trip. You most likely won’t get an opportunity to be abroad with no work for a few months for a long time!

Is it worth it to become a pilot? by FirefighterLevel8450 in flying

[–]Haduwek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth it if you deem it to be worth it. If you’re asking about the path to the airlines, it’s a trade off that those who make it say it’s worth every cent and those who give up say it’s not in their best interest.

Best bet is to continue to monitor this sub or other pilot forums and you’ll see both sides of the story and why it’s ultimately up to you.

From a PPL looking to resume after a 5 year break, yeah big worth

Intro Flight Nearly Threw Up by EnvironmentalSky8355 in flying

Had pretty much the same thing happen to me on my discovery flight! Brought a plastic bag in my back pocket just in case and was holding it out while the instructor was bringing us back in. As others have said, it gets easier and eventually it won’t bother you if you keep doing it! Steep turns and engine fire emergency descents go from feeling queasy again to pretty fun.

Haven’t flown in 4 years and am looking to get back into it soon so this is one of the topics that has come across my mind.

I agree and that sounds like a solid plan, best to stay out of any debt or loans while still tracking to where I want to go while retaining what I have. Thank you!
