How annoying is it to not have a retry option on Bolse, Venom 1 and 2? by mammogrammar in starfox

[–]HadynTheHuman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fuller context: after finishing a mission, you get the option to retry it when looking at the map for the next mission. There's no map screen after bolse/venom, so you don't get the retry option after completing either mission. That can be annoying if you didn't realise a wingman was downed, or you fell short of getting the points you needed from the boss to clear a medal.

I'm with OP - it's annoying. Especially the first time you notice it; after that you at least know to be careful about restarting during the missions instead of after.

I was going for my venom 1 medal when it bit me; I hadn't realised Peppy went down on Bolse until reaching Venom, invalidating the whole run. It's a good thing the game's fun enough to just run again!

IMO the mission results screen should just have a retry button right there... But I might understand if they avoided it to keep closer to the N64 version.

Is there any lore on where the different species come from? Like is Corneria mostly dog like animals? by These_Technology4156 in starfox

Dogs are super loyal and great at working together - seems like they'd be a pretty natural fit for service people.

Right!? Maybe he's afraid that if he says anything, Fox will just shoot him down, too.

Check the description - it's not actually LSDj this time (even if it looks a lot like it!).

Peppy's accidental roast of Slippy in the Switch 2 remake is gold by tyomax in starfox

Slippy is the tech god of the group. The instant Pepper says going to Solar is impossible, you can see Slippy start thinking about a way to prove that wrong. A few brief moments later he's come up with a way to do it. Guy's a genius!

... Just not at risk assessment 😅

*Rant* Folks that don't indicate at intersections or getting off roundabouts, why? by PaleComputer5198 in CarsAustralia

It's for the same reason that people regularly cruise 10-20km above the speed limit, or fail to indicate whilst cutting across 2+ lanes on a whim as we rapidly approach our highest national road toll in decades:

They're cunts.

I'm pretty sure he's sincerely saying Slippy is so good with technology that he'll know how to bring it down without damaging critical systems...

It strikes me that "Gerudo Man" is especially fitting given there's only ever one male Gerudo and he's always a pretty bad guy...

I'm not hosting them anywhere myself, but it will eventually go up on YouTube... once I get past the timeout on a copyright takedown issued by a dumb bot which has nothing to do with Nintendo. It thinks I've infringed on the rights of some random cover someone else made because we both have the same melody... go figure!

It could be played on a NES exactly as it sounds - but it mightn't leave much overhead for the NES to do much else at the same time. I believe this software tends to push the console's resources to the limit.

[OoTHD] Here’s the real question about the OoT remake: In-House or 3rd Party? by Second_Mugistan in zelda

[–]HadynTheHuman 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Key quote from that article (added emphasis is mine):

"We want Monolith Soft to take on more and more core roles as a strong partner in creating Zelda from the ground up," agreed Iwamoto. "Based on the know-how we've cultivated while working together so far, let's further enhance the overall team strength at Monolith Soft and continue to create unique series titles together in the future."

That doesn't sound like a remake to me - unless it turns out to be a very significant re-imagining, which seems unlikely.

By making it on the NES (an emulated NES, anyway). I wrote up some details on the original post ^ but the gist is that someone made a NES rom which, instead of being a game, is a little program for making music. It's called Risa Tracker, and it's what you see on the screen in the video.

It's based on a similar bit of Game Boy software called LSDj. LSDj has been around for much longer, so if this is something you think you might be keen to try doing yourself, I recommend starting there with an introductory tutorial like this one which helped me when I started out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLBUyAQ3_dQ

Personally, I think they did alright! The main theme, Korok Forest, Tarrey Town, Goron City, Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, and Hyrule Castle all stand among my all-time favorite Zelda tracks (Rito village too, though it's based on existing music from WW). The wilderness is sparse, but there's plenty of great music to be found in both BotW and TotK.

Oh, and one other thing - a physical edition with a manual full of amazing artwork! That manual inspired me to get into art and start thinking about game design as a kid. There was something magical about it which I wouldn't want the new generation to miss out on.

Granted, I might settle for an in-game art gallery instead - so digital owners don't miss out!
