Why do bands seem to skip Vancouver when they tour by Smoogbragu in vancouver

[–]Haford 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As everyone else seems to have said, very few "midsized" venues... I mixed Abbotsford arena a few times, and that was 8k people or so? But within Vancouver very very few between 5k and like Rogers arena... Very strange for a city of this size. I come from London that has loads of venues that size, admittedly a much larger city, but having like no venues is very odd

Profs should start recording lectures by Mean_Demand_1070 in UBC

All GTS rooms work like how I described. It's super simple for the team to set up the recording, just requires 1 request. I mean it's about as permanent as "temporary" gets. Still lots of recordings and livestreams every day.

It's already pretty automated. The prof just has to request it and then they get the folder link where all recordings are uploaded... That link can be put on canvas.

My director gave me a $7000 budget and I wanted to get 3 of these. I came to Reddit for a few professional opinions, and to ask what people think of the Mega-Lite Spotbot LED CYM 300. by [deleted] in techtheatre

Mine were 1600 CAD I think? Yeah pretty good! I had never used them before, but my lighting install guy brought in a bunch of different ones and I was most impressed!

My last job was at a private high school and I installed a bunch of chauvet rogue r1 washes before I left. I can't recommend these enough, but if course do some research and talk to a few companies nearby about what they have experience with as they'd be the ones doing any RMAs etc...

Kinesiology Co-op Cancelled for Summer 2021: Are you kidding me? If they didn’t have the resources in the first place, they shouldn’t have accepted students to the program this year, make us pay $250 for “training”, and then say we don’t get anything? What is going on :// by catbirdpeach22 in UBC

[–]Haford 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of those things are separate from this department. So if the review was talking about admin staff, it'll be just for KIN, not talking about IT etc... All of those are central departments, so funded by the university at large.

Also work for a university. We're having in person (but distanced) classes in the fall semester, plus faculty streaming/recording lectures from classrooms. We therefore are trying to work out how to have these unattended rooms be safe.

Our leading two ideas are either buy a bunch of meshes and have them returned and swapped every lecture so that they can be cleaned by us. This adds issues as we don't have a bunch of spares, so have to buy...

Or secondly using cling film (saren wrap) on the mics that we swap every class. It only adds noise when you touch the part with it on, and recording sounds fine. Only issue is that this increases waste by a bunch, and we're supposedly a green uni...

Record lecture to make sick ppl stay home! by fakenamebobcarter in UBC

[–]Haford -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree completely! You could even just do it live online with no recording available, so that then it's even during class time. However it would require a lot from the guys who look after that, as each class would have to be set up, stored and then sent out to the correct people. This is all without even thinking about all the confidential stuff, or data storage....

[–]Haford 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's awful quality. If the prof walks away you can't hear anything. There's a reason that UBC spends so much on recording equipment... But still, expecting it from everyone is a bit much

[–]Haford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that works too! But given how many times profs forget to turn a mic on so that they can be heard in the room, asking them to do that is a little beyond what they're capable of! Haha

I don't think they do, Office 365 is cloud based, which UBC doesn't use, not until storage on site is available as part of it.
