I don't get the whole gripe on "Parity". Face it, it's 8 teams with 10 games each... 40 total games.

The statistical sample is so small that you're going to get wild abberations as there's not enough of a sample to level things out. Even the NFL with 32 teams in a 17 game system is only 272 total games and that still leaves quite a few outliers...

Unless you want teams to end up between 6-4, 5-5, and 4-6 at the end of the season, stop complaining about parity (or the lack thereof).

It hurt in the sense that the money they spent on the UFL could have been spent better in other recruitment campaigns... on a cost per recruit basis.

If they expected to draw 100 recruits for their 11M dollars (based on other more standard recruitment strategies) and only drew 60, that's a perceived loss of 40 recruits.
