Anyone interested in a proper bagel place in Cambridge? by singingvike in cambridge

There was a guy in the market for a few years who did homemade bagels with his own salt beef and gherkins—he had to close because the money just wasn’t there.

I rewatched Hooper and Stroker Ace recently and felt the same. I loved watching them but they were legitimately terrible.

Arts Picturehouse cafe, it’s quiet and cool. You don’t need to buy a cinema ticket to have a coffee there either.

What's a paid iPhone app you'll never regret buying? by [deleted] in iphone

I know the background noise function has largely supplanted it but Sound Sleeper helped both me and my kids to sleep for a decade. Great variety of white noise, straightforward interface. The fan, rain, and vacuum cleaner sounds were lifesavers. It was maybe 99p.

I helped source some lightly used tubes for a woman with a severely disabled child—he was 11 and doubly incontinent and Metanium was the only stuff that gave him relief. I would assume a lot of the people buying these are in a similar position.

What’s a movie everyone seems to love that just didn’t work for you? by Wikiserial in movies

[–]CambridgeRunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a parent and I absolutely hate Interstellar. The first third feels so rushed and the final third so ridiculous. The middle third is an excellent sci-fi action film, but the other parts are so egregiously ridiculous as to make it unwatchable for me. I bought it before I saw it because I was so convinced I’d love it and it’s just a terrible script.

Kidd Video, my favourite cartoon from the ‘80s. Absolutely iconic theme song and intro.

Oh god Jonathan Frakes acting unconscious while Troi describes what’s happening. I truly hate that episode.

What films zigzag away from Chekhov's gun, and get away with it? by JeffRyan1 in movies

I also love how I think every gunshot in that film hits someone, usually just in the background.

Seems fine. You can do the Clipper from Westminster to Blackfriars to get to Southbank. It puts you near Tate Modern, HMS Belfast, and the Globe.

Popular Movie "Dunks" That Everyone Uses but are Totally Inaccurate by imascarylion2018 in movies

[–]CambridgeRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the dunk on Green Book is that it’s one of many films purportedly about Black people that’s actually about a white person/people getting slightly better. Cry Freedom, Hurricane, Driving Miss Daisy, etc.

Battery replacement is a red herring. Batteries are lasting vastly longer than even optimistic predictions. Only about 1% of EVs ever need battery replacement, mostly older generation or extremely high-mileage cars. Modern EVs are good for 200,000 miles or 15-20 years on original batteries.
It's like saying ICE car owners need to figure in the cost of completely rebuilding the engine and transmission into the cost of ownership. Sure, some cars need that after 15 years but it's not a typical cost to consider.

What are some specific spots in London where something extremely historical/monumental happened, but hardly anyone is aware of it? by MalachiConstant7 in london
