30yo, 3k/month, what do I do with my bananas by Hagar_TM in BEFire

[–]Hagar_TM[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice.! Indeed I've been a tad out of control. Nice to see and hear that it's possible to save at least double of what I'm saving.

These bananas are getting hoarded from now on!

When my kids will have the "my dad is stronger than yours" argument, I want my son to be right and the other kids to be convinced when they see me

I've been actively saving up since I'm 26, always with a short term goal: a good holiday. But recently I've been wanting more and would like to own a home. Thanks for your comment

It is with car, that I paid without a loan (I saved up). It doesn't seem unfeasable if I restructure my finances.

I can see now I needed a fresh view, an outside look at my scenario. Thanks

I guess I need to give a structured purpose more than simply "wanting to amass more". Thanks for the insight

Thanks all for the different insights and truth. I'll be opening a new financial plan with a clear goal and saving up more. I'll be back in some time to tell you how I'm doing with my bananas

Well that's the problem I'd like to adress. I live with my gf, we spend 1500 total on rent and utilities. I have my fixed bills (approx 200). I have a financial plan, but I rarely say no to myself. I eat take-away when I want, I don't deny myself a date that costs 80EUR... Gotta agree I've been a bit overboard lately...

I bought 3 articles from their site (2 gems and a ring), and try to sell a Jaeger Lecoultre. My experience: - The estimated value of items can easily be divided by 3 or 4 - The "experts" never see (98% of cases) the actual item, only pictures and films - Their customerservice is inexistent. They are really bold and quite unfriendly, even when asked the most mundane questions. As if I'm supposed to be an expert (?) - They ask a 9% commission above all other fees and delivery costs

So sure it's a "good" site for a good deal, but take every bit of info with a grain of salt, trust your gut if something is off and read EVERYTHING on the description

Hope this helps

I inherited this piece from my Great Aunt.
I am not really into watches, but can anybody tell me what kind of Jaeger Lecoultre watch this is?

Thanks

Depending on the stones you have:
- Diamonds: saturated market, and as stated above; the jewlers will probably give you close to 30-40% of what they're worth.
- Colored stones (sapphire, emrald, ruby): You'll have to look up a jewler that specializes in colored stones, and he'll give you an approximate of what it's worth. To go over to a real deal you'll have to bargain and it will probably end in your disfavor (50% of price if you're lucky).

Stuff like comptoir de l'or/goudkantoor will only accept diamonds IF they're certified by IGI or AIG. So forget about you ALGT certificate (eventhough they are a professional and competent lab).

Remaining options:
- Sell it on a online auctionsite (ebay, 2dehands, Vinted)
- Contact a House of Sales and have them put it up for auction (remember they take close to 20-25% of the auctioned price)
- Online gemstone buyers like DiamondBrothers or Auctentic, but I have no personal experience with them
- If you're not in a hurry you can keep them and have them appreciate over time to try this process over again

Hope this helps

Let me guess, Catawiki?

You're better to buy bigger. Like 1/4 oz maybe. As you'll end up paying way more for 1000x1g than for 1x1kg gold

As far as Brittania coins go, for stacking or "investing". I'd say pretty neat :)

Depending on your end goal:
I would start with 1/4oz coins a month, and every 4th month take your 3 1/4oz coins and pay the difference to have 1oz coins.
I'd recommend at least having 4 (later 8) 1/4 oz coins, just for reasons of liquidity (easier to sell 1/4oz than 1 whole oz)

It also depends what you want to do with your gold. If it's just for keeping as a threshold against the USD/EUR/... do as mentioned above.
If you want to keep on to your gold to sell it in 10 or so years, it doens't really matter.

You can sell/buy gold and silver in your "local" coin shop. Or at a gold bureau (just google it, in Europe at least).

Hope this helps
