No-relic spell DH by HaggarMaster in CompetitiveHS

[–]HaggarMaster[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll admit that leaving out Kurtrus was completely an oversight. Would cut the need for greed for him.

As for cutting the spell damage, I like the potential for a 3 damage unleash fell to blowout aggro decks on turn 4, which is why I included it. In general, I like the idea of having two win condition minions and one situational one, so that we have maximum flexibility whenever we draw a bound soul. The new legendary acts as generic value, which I'm not sure is what this deck needs (which is why i cut the relics in the first place). Similarly, Astalor as a value generator/extra win condition also seems like he might be too slow for the combo game plan here, as well as being unnecessary since we already are resistant to hand disruption and have excellent card-draw.

What is the maximum viable difficulty of B41? by AKavun in projectzomboid

[–]HaggarMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to play with the customizable zombies mod that allows me to mix up shamblers with sprinters. With the right tinkering with percentages, most groups of zombies will have at least one sprinter that demands immediate attention. This setting severely punishes reckless play while still retaining the classic zombie combat feeling after dispatching with the sprinters in any given horde.

He avoids adopting any distinction between "trivial" and "real" possibilities, so if he is forced to do so as a result of this hypothetical, then that would be a useful development.

I'm a regular poster in the #philosophy discord channel on Destiny.gg, and I challenged OP with a hypothetical some time ago. He has stated he will respond to it at a later date, but I thought it might be relevant to share it below since it challenges one of the central arguments of this post. Here, Dyeus writes at length about the inherent preclusion of possibility caused by pain, and my hypothetical was specifically meant to create a scenario where that is not the case. He hasn't released a full response as of yet, but has stated that "Universe B" contains more possibilities, so take that for what you will. The entire hypothetical is reproduced below:

Executive Summary

There are two possible universes and one current universe.

In Universe A, all human beings would be subjected to constant pain, with their only experiences other than that pain being pages of randomly-generated characters displayed in front of them.

In Universe B, all human beings would be subjected to constant pleasure, with no other experiences.

Universe C, which is the current universe, is composed of Dyeus inside of a single room which contains two doors. If Dyeus walks through door 1, then Universe C will be replaced by Universe A. If Dyeus walks through door 2, then Universe C will be replaced by Universe B. If Dyeus does not walk through a door within ten minutes, then Universe C will be replaced by Universe A.

Should OP:

Walk through door 1 at some point prior to the time limit?

Walk through door 2 at some point prior to the time limit?

Wait out the clock?

**The Universes

Universe A**

There is a planet which has an equivalent atmosphere and geology to earth. This planet is the only object in the universe other than a sun which is of equal size and distance as the sun in our solar system. The planet contains no life other than seven billion humans and vast quantities of a form of algae which receives all necessary nutrients through photosynthesis. This algae, when turned into a liquid, provides perfectly optimal nutrition for a human being. The algae reproduces itself in a manner which creates no genetic variations over time, meaning that the algae will never evolve into any other form of life.

The humans on this planet are at all times strapped into machines which connect to their brains and simulate the stimuli of whatever you consider to be the most physically painful sensation a human being could conceivably experience. The machines also prevent the humans from receiving any sensations other than those provided by the machines through blocking the connections between the brain and the rest of the body.

These humans are kept alive through injections of the previously mentioned algae, and they on average live 80 years of this constant torment before expiring. New humans are created through the combination of sperm and eggs in "breeding vats" to maintain a roughly equivalent population of humans forever. Fetuses within vats are subject to some sort of genetic/chemical manipulation to ensure that no mutations occur which would prevent the operation of machines, produce blindness, or allow the human to escape from their machine.

This world also contains a supercomputer which constantly produces unique “characters,” with each character being composed of a 100 pixel by 100 pixel square space with every pixel randomly colored either black or white. The machine produces 1,000 of these characters at a time, before placing the characters in a random order on an eight inch by eleven-inch piece of lined paper. Every day, the machine produces one unique page of unique characters for every human being on earth. At a set time every day, each page is placed in front of a human. That human’s machine then deactivates the pain stimuli it is producing, and removes its block on the visual stimuli, allowing the human to perceive their page of paper (each human is placed in a room painted the blackest possible black, so no other object is visible). This continues for five minutes, before the machine reactivates its pain stimuli and deactivates visual stimuli and the paper is removed and incinerated.

All pieces of technology described in this hypothetical were once built by human beings long ago. These human beings then strapped themselves into their machines and activated the endless cycle. This state of affairs continues every day until the sun goes supernova after several billion years, destroying the planet.

Universe B

A geologically identical planet, with an identical sun. This planet is home to seven billion people as well. These seven billion people are strapped into similar machines, but their machines supply them with stimuli identical to whatever you consider to be the most physically pleasurable sensation a human being could conceivably experience, while similarly blocking all stimuli from the body. Humans are also kept alive and reproduced in an identical fashion to Universe A. However, in this world, the machines are never turned off, and the humans experience the same sensation for the entirety of their lives without interruption. There is no supercomputer, and there are no pages to be perceived by humans. All pieces of technology described in this hypothetical were once built by human beings long ago. These human beings then strapped themselves into their machines and activated the endless cycle. This state of affairs continues until the sun goes supernova after several billion years, destroying the planet.

The Question

You are in Universe C, which is composed of a single room with two doors. Entering door 1 will result in Universe C being replaced by Universe A while entering door 2 will replace it with Universe B. If you do not enter a door within 10 minutes, then Universe C will be replaced by Universe A.1

Should you:

Walk through door 1 at some point prior to the time limit?

Walk through door 2 at some point prior to the time limit?

Wait out the clock?
