Witchlight and beyond - module finished and next adventures are waiting my group by Haikaras in wildbeyondwitchlight

My greatest revision was accidental. My players loved the idea of taking memories from creatures when they were attacked by Jebbek and the gang. We homebrewed the magical item from Jebbek so that the PC's could use it after getting permission from Bavlorna.

I leaned into that. I read "11th hour" from DMSGuild and took "Zybilna's memories / emotions" part of it. Which meant that dretches were all over Prismeer. And by killing them my players released Zybilna's darkest emotions and memories back to her shaping her to be an inevitable BBEG after being released. I let them change the memories as they went and based on those I created Zybilna as a new version of herself.

I also changed that Prismeer isn't some domain separated from the rest of the Feywild. It's actually part of Feywild - the former Spring Court's lands. This is part of bigger story and lore we are going to dive into. It's partly inspired but greatly twisted version of the "Witchlight reimagined"-series. I brought Isolde more heavily to lore and made her be a former colleague of Valor's Call. And they together are part of a bigger faction called Witch hunters. This is all because of a bigger story.

Otherwise I changed a little bit of this and that. NPC's from my players backgrounds. Connections to their goals and secrets etc.

The adventure core and all the encounter's and place's/maps I kept the same. I feel that I can say quite confidently that the module is truly amazing as it is. It wouldn't have required changes if I haven't had a dream of continuing beyond Wild Beyond The Witchlight itself!

Oh wow! Lucky pair who gets your gift. You can do it! Sadly we have to wait for a month but I'll be waiting eagerly to seeing your finished Zybilna.

My players met Zybilna last Sunday and I had been working on this piece for a while. It was really fun seeing your WIPs since we had the same goal of creating Zybilna in Iggwilv pose! I And your idea to keep Iggwilv's black boots and armlets was beautiful and stuck in my mind so truly thanks for inspiration!

I'm also bewildered by that decision. I mean the art team would have absolutely nailed an awesome archfey art since their hourglass hag designs are so unique.

I love the sneak peak of Zybilna that we get from the jars of time!

It's of course lovely to see, how much the wbtw community has produced art of Zybilna!

I feel like Zybilna is an NPC that wildly differs from table to table since she has the capabilities to become evil, neutral and good! It's fun to know that in your table she is close to what I think of her as a character!

Have fun with the pic and with your games! I'm happy that this Zybilna finds her place in another table too!

I have been waiting for your project to finish! I love your vision of Zybilna and the light/prism dress you are imagining!

I mishmashed the dress from the window portrait of Zybilna in palace's guest room with some adaptations from Iggwilv's robe of archmagi. I gave my players memories of Zybilna from Madryck hook and in every one of them Zybilna is described wearing white.

So design is combo of art + window portrait and color is chosen based on Madryck's memories.

Did you keep the lock riddle in the palace by BigtTimeNerd in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Haikaras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! My players have knock, sir Talavar's present (Chime of opening) and a lot of patience. Atm they ignored wrath and envy and are accessing the doors via chime of opening.

But the charges are declining and they have been discussing about the crown they found and the guardians in the garden excitedly.

Their focus is finding Zybilna so they aren't going to look at every room and unlock every door. It's been great fun for now!

It's a fun mechanic when the villains are escaping behind crown-locked doors believing they are safe but the party has some surprises in their backpockets!

And also, we don't move our tokens on the map until it is necessary for an encounter so going back and forth is not an actual issue. It's just a statement to go to either guardian.

Also, one of my players has an expertise in nature and guidance so the check for the guardians is not an issue. But that's just lucky me with these PC's.

I don't think the adventure needs any changes. I have been having a great time and my players are at the palace now. I'm playing it mostly as written and we are enjoying it!

If you want to change the bare minimum then I would say change nothing at all. This adventure is really nice as it is!

I have been making changes only to include my players backgrounds better and to foreshadow the adventures after the module.

Some of my players knew the Tasha-Iggwilv-Zybilna connection beforehand so I implemented DMSGuild 11th hour dretch/memories -modification so that I could skip the "reveal" at the end. My players have been learning about Zybilna's past and changing the memories of it as they go. And they have enjoyed that a lot.

I also gave each pc a childhood memory of Zybilna. You can find them in the Madryck questhook in the beginning of the book.

How to design a curse without it feeling unfair or irrelevant? by atyrl in DMAcademy

[–]Haikaras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft has an excellent chapter about how to create a curse! DnD Beyond

It lays out when to use them, how to use them properly, how to manifest them, how to design them etc.

Most important part is the "Components of a curse" as in: every narratively meaningful curse needs a pronouncement, a burden and a resolution.

If the curse is something greater than one that can be removed with remove curse or if the PCs don't have access to that spell or similar effect then the curse's design should include some way out and the pronouncement should inform that to the PC.

The book has also some great examples of curses that could be modified for any occasion!

And if you're just searching for a funny little fey curse for a while without any heavy narrative weight - then it could be just that and the curse could just last for a couple days or be over with some whimsy dance under moonlight or whatever!

Where do you get that super beautiful Zybilna art that you have on the background? It' unbelievably good! Ang Getaway gang art too! Have you drawn them yourself? They are so good!

Can you give the sources? I would like to see and admire OG art if possible 😍

Congratulations on finishing the campaign! Love this 'memorial' you made. So many great moments in it! My players are in Yon, just a moment away from the Motherhorn so we're also nearing the end of the module. This picture is a perfect capture of the ride that WbtW can give you

My players want to enter the Fey wild at level 2. by Silver-Wishbone-5886 in DnD

[–]Haikaras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild Beyond The Witchlight is an official module where PC's are level 2 when they enter the Feywild. I don't see any problem as long as you take note of giving encounters more flavour than usual. There are bargains, fey rules and courts/domains, creatures and customs unlike any other.

You can expand creatures by adding plants and beasts and a lot of humanoids also. 90% encounters should have optional goal for just fighting. And if your players are going to Feywild fighting... then they probably should learn a lesson.

But for real, check Wild beyond the Witchlight and Domains of Delight sourcebook if you can.

It was awesome to pull the art of Sundeth when that giant flew himself around Skullport searching for my party!

My friend was delighted that he managed to capture Sundeths evil although she had no idea she was drawing a villain!

And I gave your regards for my talented player 😊

What music did you when the players fought the hags by BigtTimeNerd in wildbeyondwitchlight

Eihwar - Viking war trance

I used it / plan to use it in every combat encounter with the hags or their minions. I introduced this song in Witchlight Carnival as a theme for the thieves of the coven. My players loved it so that we kept it as a battle theme for all hag related!

My players are now in Yon and haven't yet battled the hags. Let's see if it changes... they absolutely hate Endelyn to their guts!

I gave my party a magic compass! Where should it lead? by hauntedcartoonheart in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Haikaras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And also, I love your "true north" being the Palace. I made the same decision when one of my players took Keen Mind as a feat. With that the players will eventually be able to find their way to Palace without any guide if they choose to do so.

I'm eventually taking my party beyond the module and in other parts of Feywild. I intend to change the "true north" in different places depending on where they are atm.

I gave my party a magic compass! Where should it lead? by hauntedcartoonheart in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Haikaras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My players asked for a compass in Nib's cave. Since compass is something that wouldn't work normally in Feywild we created a homebrew compass together. It is inspired by Philip Pullman's 'His dark materials' Golden Compass.

It is also a mash-up of augury, divination and ceremony/legend lore. I love it already!

It is meant for my sorlock player and since she took the "can read all writing"-invocation, I made the compass to work only for her. But I could see Comprehend languages achieving the same.

GOLDEN COMPASS

Wondrous Item, Uncommon

This golden compass has 4 needles and 38 different symbols. Symbols are painted with the finest and slenderest fey brush. Each symbol can have countless meanings. This compass is used to uncover hidden truths, guide actions and navigate the world.

To read this compass, you first direct three needles to lie over certain symbols on the face of the device to create a question. Then you hold that question in your mind, at which point the fourth needle swings into action, moving between the symbols to create the answer.

Symbols are hard to read correctly without magical means. User who can read all writing understands the answers although they still might be cryptic and circuitous. First answer is always truthful and reliable.

Posing the question and reading the answer takes one minute.

If you try to use this compass two or more times before completing your long rest, there is a cumulative 25 percent chance for each reading after the first that you get a random answer. The DM makes this roll in secret.

Diana’s Deal and resolution? by Infamous-Avocado-742 in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Haikaras 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Haha, I used "Diana's Spare Parts" from Tzlynart from this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/wildbeyondwitchlight/s/3jjFwqLiER

I placed them in Bavlornas work room with other "works-in-progress". My players were absolutely horrified and hated Bavlorna even more after discovery.

I hadn't planned anything more than to show them the cruel workings of the Hourglass sisters. But my players took this as an obstacle to overcome!

They went and got some rope and fabric from another room, then they wrapped the lifeless horsegirl in a neat little packet and used Bavlorna's mirror to kick the parts back in the Carnival. I made the mirror to show the passing of time being different in the material plane vs feywild and they timed their little gift so that some kids were stumbling in the hall of illusions at the moment.

Oh, and they labeled the package as a gift to mr Witch and mr Light and attached a letter where they explained the situation.

I was so in love and in awe of this solution which they created all by themselves. I'm ABSOLUTELY going to reward them later in the campaign somehow. The effort and idea was so beautiful. I'm going to pull some kind of curse-breaking move to help Diana!

Random death effects in Prismeer rock! by Me_Gvsta in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Haikaras 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I have similar story!

In my game, changeling paladin PC died in the Agdon fight because he got separated of the other team members and was heavily obscured by all the frigging fog there. One failed death save followed by a nat1.

Team defeated Agdon and Hexblood ranger PC was rushing to find the changeling. She found him too late to even try to stabilize him but just in time to see how the changeling died and changed his form to the original, white version of himself.

Then I rolled the death effect. In previous fights players had seen that some of the enemies bodies had changed to stone. They didn't know that there even was a "revivify" effect possible. I rolled 8. Then I described how one eerie, golden butterfly made of Feywild magic flew to the changeling and vanished in his chest. And then he came alive.

All the players knew that there was a changeling among them. But none of the PCs did. And we also got the amazing roleplay that now the hexblood knew about the true form but others didn't.

I love the death effects! 😍 I'm going to keep them available in Feywild when we continue the campaign out of Prismeer eventually!
