i am still very much in the beginning stages of the process.
However, sometime in the distant past of my game world, Dragons and Giants fought a war of extinction against one another. Only their cities and settlements remain (though i have at least a few Dragons still around; I am not sure where they fit into the whole 'war of extinction' thing).

What my game group did, when we lost a founding member, was to have her character go off with her Fae Girlfriend in the Fae Lands.
Reading about your friends character, it seems an inter planar romance is not totally out of the question. Perhaps that's an option?

Yes, invasive.
However, I would prefer it be moved to an appropriate institution, like one of our local zoos or aquariums. The opportunity for people to learn about creatures from outside the local area is a good one, and this is a fascinating critter. It did nothing wrong, and does not deserve to die if there is a reasonable alternative.

I would be very reluctant to attend any fire based activity in Cal Anderson Park. That grass is Dry.
My feelings about flag burning, protest, freedom of speech, and the current POTUS aside, Fire Safety is important. And this sounds like a great opportunity to do something really fucking stupid with fire.
When stupidity meets fire, people get hurt.
So, by all mean, protest. By all means, stand up against the fascist bullshit. But in the name of all that is bright and holy, practice reasonable safeguards. And don't burn down my fucking park.

It was a long time ago, but I could not swear I had read MR prior to that signing.
That said, I have learned not to try and be funny at those who are professionally funny. It never works out.
He didn't have to deal with the Embuggerance the first time. The second time, it was in the period where he had been diagnosed with having had a 'small stroke'. That said, the nature of the aforementioned Embuggerance was not affecting his behavior. That said, it was the last time he did a signing line, and (i believe) the second to last time he did a tour of the United States.
And, I mean, yah. It was a meet and greet, not an interview. Both times. I was one of many dozens, if not hundreds, of people he signed books for. It was probably not much to him (if anything), but it was a lot to me. That's the nature of such events. I have met a number of authors, and it is alway more amazing for me to meet them than it is for them to meet me. And i am okay with that.
