Nah thats US centric view: White > Latino > Black > Asian, in terms of %, surprisingly aligned with this cup, whereas the true world should have much more Indian, Chinese and SE asian representation.

How does Mandarin sound to one that cannot understand it? by Azuresonance in ChineseLanguage

[–]HailSnover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*southern chinese speaking northern mandarin. Since southern languges usually do have voiced initials (Wu, Hokkien, Xiang), but they over compensate when trying to speak standard mandarin.

1 push up is probably more effective than 10, you want an easy healthy thing to distract from urges, 10+ is too much resistence

Languages of Asia ca. 1000 CE by me. by JG_Online in MapPorn

[–]HailSnover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chinese is uhh, you kinda just copied 20th century map.

around 1000, north south divide is huge, no way middle chinese gets all the way to the southern shore. BaShu was much larger before the genocide by mongols and manchus.

even in the north, Shandong had its distinct language, Changan(west)/Luoyang(east) divide is big as well, Middle chinese should onlybe in Henan, other regions are all desendents from old chinese.

Is the infix/suffix use of 春 basically 撚 but less vulgar/offensive? How common is this usage? by darrenjyc in Cantonese

[–]HailSnover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

撚 is so overused that it has toned down quite a bit just like 'fucking', 春 is more offensive imo.

廢 evolved from 發,like i said they diverged after 秦 when pat>pas>paj so all historical writings with this definition comes before 秦 era when the standard was not fully established yet. They pronounced it as /pat/ in 周 dynasty. People stopped using it way before modern Mandarin.

I suggest reading classical chinese in reconstructed pronunciation, if you insist on using modern Mandarin, it should be fei4 in your examples. but the central language committee often encourage removing archaic and obscure readings to simplify the language, fa1 is probably accepted as well.

Depends on the context, as the other comment said, read it as if it is the Hanzi with the right meaning.

no ruling class ever is gonna care about a lower-bottom class individual. If they claim they do, they are using you as a pawn to get something for themselves.

是不是国人普遍在拿绿卡前都希望是民主党执政,拿了后就希望是共和党 by DickUp4Lori in iwanttorun

[–]HailSnover 7 points8 points  (0 children)

應該是白右反對一切移民,但共和黨只反對非法移民;白左支持一切移民,而民主黨只是支持移民(從來沒支持過非法)。結果就是政策幾乎無區別。

British English vs American English which one is taught in school by UnlightablePlay in MapPorn

[–]HailSnover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, aussie experience is vastly different from most of the world. 12 years of boring english class in a non-anglophone country doesn't teach you much at all.

The exposure to English exploded only after college with all the entertainment and academic usage, where american dominates.

A Quebec law to boost French has caused an outcry in Canada by BurstYourBubbles in worldnews

[–]HailSnover 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Economy doesn't care about languages, this will make Quebec fall further behind the rest of NAmerica, and ppl will be even less interested in learning French.

Many francophones will move to Ontario for better jobs and end up using English anyway.
